Few updates from the Kendal mail out today.

Kasabian Friday. Blossoms Saturday. Royal Blood Sunday.

    Frank Turner headlining parklands Saturday.

Mel C and Confidence Man on Saturday.

    Example before Kasabian on Friday.

Is this 100% confirmed? Sorry for asking a (probably) stupid question.

I love that razorlight has become a metric 😂

Cat Stevens couldn't do half the reggae set that Razorlight will be doing this year on WH!

    Not even just Razorlight.

Diana Vickers, Nickelback, 2 Unlimited, Orson and Jahmene Douglas all have more number 1 albums than Stevens who has exactly zero number 1 UK albums or singles.

I think that's fair enough. Unless you're actively seeking out his music I'm not sure where you'd actually hear it.  Radio 2 maybe....

This is sort of my point. It doesn't feel like your usual Sunday teatime legends slot. He feels more like he should be in similar slot to which Burt Bacharach had to me.

I also just had a look online, and I know that the charts aren't a barometer for everything, but Razorlight have more number 1 albums than Stevens, with one number 1 album.

I have also done the all-important "Has my mum heard of them?" test and unfortunately, she has not.

If you haven't heard of Cat Stevens then... I'm sorry to say... you don't have goot musical knowledge sir 🥸

I've heard of Cat Stevens, but have never heard his music which, as I say, I am utterly baffled by.

I'm 29 and I don't understand how somebody who is apparently considered such a legend has completely passed me by for nearly 3 decades.

Sorry - but the answer to that is a resounding YES. He is an absolute bona fide legend and has some of the most recognisable and iconic songs of all time. For many years we thought he would never return to contemporary music. If you haven't seen him before (which I'm assuming you haven't as you haven't heard his music) then I assure you he is an absolute MUST. I don't wish this to appear rude (I'm sure it will do) but this is like the comments when Neil Young and Springsteen played claiming they couldn't be famous because they didn't know them. He is up there with Dylan, CSNY, Joni, Cohen.

Yeah I'm not even saying it in a dick way or anything. I looked him up and listened to a song called Father & Son (or sometjing close to that) and I was legitimately confused. I consider myself to have goot musical knowledge, so I had to ask what was going on.

To me, being perfectly honest, this feels like a bit of a niche legend thing. For context, Neil Young and Springsteen are absolutely on my radar, and I'm astonished that anyone WOULDN'T know them... But this one feels more like a Leonard Cohen/Burt Bacharach sort of legend. They're legends, but a lot of people are going to be a bit miffed.

They're not like your Dolly Partons, Lionel Richies and Kylies, who have incredible, far-reaching mainstream appeal, but for a more refined audience?

  6. So is Cat/Yusef Stevens actually the legends slot?

I'm really worried of making myself look a fool here but you don't learn if you don't ask.... So, who is that? I feel like it's a name I know, but honestly I can't say I know any of their songs off the top of my head. I just listened to their most viewed track on YouTube and I can safely say I've never heard it in my life before. Have I seriously somehow never heard music by an actual legend, or is this generally seen as a very weak choice of legend?

RB can't be Thursday since that's Chic. I'd guess Friday with Kasabian on the Sunday. KC tend to have their biggie on the Sunday.

That's what I'd assume, too. I'm hoping Kasabian, Kaisers and Confidence Man are all on the same day and I'll just go for one day

  8. This headliner news works out in my favour. Everyone has their own reasons for going to the festival, and my top reason is the music. I always want to see at least one headliner... But this year, I have absolutely no interest in any of the 3... I don't have any FOMO from not having a ticket for the first time since I started going.

I hope anyone with a ticket enjoys themselves, but I've now got myself a free weekend in June!

Not sure how everyone know it was all ticketless trying to get in and not that loads of people with tickets turned up close to stage time and the rush was caused as they thought they were missing the show.

That's still the fault of the punters though. You just wait in the queue until you're called forward to enter. It's not the security's fault if all these people turned up late. The doors open 2 hours before show time for a reason.

  10. It was my 5th Glasto, and unfortunately I struggled to enjoy it that much. I don't know what it was, but I had such an off time that I didn't even wake up for tickets this year. I'm hoping missing 2023 might give me the itch for 2024.... Or maybe I'm just getting old.

However, I discovered Turnstile there and I fucking love them now. Turns out an old mate is also a fan so we're going to reconnect and go see them at Brixton next year.

So if someone like Kate Bush was at the farm- Legend or Headliner?

That's actually a really weird one. I personally think if she hadn't given up playing live shows all those years ago, she'd be in a legends slot... But the fact she'd be possibly the most exclusive Glasto booking of all time if she was there in '23, probably puts her at the top.

I think this was even before my time (my first Leeds was 2005). It was always Monday nights when I started going.

I remember 2006 was leaked by someone who worked in HMV and received the posters before the line-up went out. Also for the 2013 line up someone managed to find a hidden page of some promoter related to the festival.

My memory is foggy but I remember 2009 got leaked via an NME article that featured all the acts announced. People in denial that Bloc Party would sub two years running...

Nah this was around 2012 I'm thinking

People are straying from R&L and moving to glasto / international forums / smaller uk fests i think.

Very few people do more than a few readings now

This is definitely true. The only reason I'm here is because I now have a job which requires me to be at Reading Festival. If I'm being paid to be there anyway, I may as well at least get excited about the few acts that I'll get to see!

  14. Kinda off-topic, but does anyone else miss the days when you'd see the lineup the day before the announcement if you had an NME postal subscription because they had a massive poster advert?

I think the lineup used to come out on Wednesdays and you'd sometimes get the magazine early on Tuesdays

  15. Slightly off-topic, but is there a reason that when one stage isn't in use they don't show the set from the other stage on the screens?

Like this year whilst waiting for AM, I couldn't see or hear BMTH's MSW set... Why wasn't it  shown on the MSE's screens, or at least have it on the speakers?

I think you meant: those Blur, Pink, Motley Crue and Springsteen prices are disgusting.

As @GeezLouise said, Blur is the one that shocked me the most because it's Blur. A few years ago (Maybe 2018?), Damon put on a Gorillaz show at Brixton Academy for £5 a ticket, so I expected Blur to be maybe £75 for a standing ticket at most. Obviously they have a lot more costs at Wembley to cover than Brixton... But the fact it's over £100 a ticket, and you won't even have the opportunity to get the front row for that price has really shocked me.
