  1. how have K.O.L become 'boring' ???? their music is what it is. some on here who are slating it obviously must have feckin bought the new album because they are a fan of them? then suddenly they are 'corporate sellouts'(i laughed at that one)AND ITS 'SOULESS'... all u2's music is the same and they have made one good album in the past 90 yrs. all radioheads music is pretty much the same but millions love them. to say that K.O.L have sold out or become boring is utterly ridiculous... some of you sound like spoilt american teenegers

  2. Errrr, I'd give it a go but it'd have to be a lot cheaper and I doubt it'd be anything like the same atmosphere.

A huge part of the atmosphere at Glastonbury is the music, the anticipation for people going to see acts they want to see, the chat after, the buzz after a great set. As much as some people seem to think it's a badge of honour to say they didn't watch any music (or that the only music they saw was a 6-man Venezuelan folk combo playing instruments made from potatoes on a tiny stage at 4am there were only 11 of us there but it was amaaaaaaaaazing dahling) the music is a massive part of it.

It wouldn't be the same festival if you took the non-music stuff away so why should it work in reverse?

  3. I think it's ridiculous for anyone on this planet to say Madonna shouldn't headline. The biggest selling female artist of all time, highest grossing tour by a solo artist, the list of accolades she has achieved is endless. I personally think it would be great for Glasto to have her if we are to believe that U2 and Radiohead/Coldplay are the other headliners.

Oh and 4AssedMonkey. Just listen to the Ray Of Light album and Like A Prayer album. Examples that she is a great musician, and yes she did write the music and lyrics, albeit in collaboration with someone else. So maybe give it a listen, you never know, you just might like it... just thought i'd point this out after all the rubbish you posted about her.

And yes she does put on a FANTASTIC show, probably the best show-woman in the business. Just what the pyramid needs after all these years.

  4. In the last couple of years they've had The Prodigy, Franz Ferdinand, Pet Shop Boys, Flaming Lips and Massive Attack headlining the Other, are the Strokes much bigger over here than that lot?

  5. Yeah and: "Only if she walks out arse naked with Beyonce, both with the old rabbits nostrils glistening in the sun like a slick of gulf oil, and perform vile lesbian yet athletic sexual acts on each other while an animated 3D John Bonham plays the intro to When the Levee Breaks.".

Betcha some twat will post that.

  6. I think playing before U2 would be brilliant (I think they deserve to headline but obviously don't fill the category of one of the biggest bands in the world

Also considering they've played with U2 before, have supported them before and U2 have used wake up as their intro song

I know they didn't like it first time, but I can imagine they'd give the 'best festival in the world' another chance

  7. The thing is you say that, but I'm not sure why. I mean people were bored. That is a fact. I'm a pretty big fan of Jay-Z so I think I enjoyed it more than most, but I really think the majority were bored.

And in terms of headlining major festivals - it hasn't led to any other Glastonbury headline spots for hi-hop artists, and there are still plenty with a beg enough world presence to do so (Kanye, Eminem, Snoop etc).

  8. I'd be very surprised if we saw Arcade Fire at Glastonbury in the next few years.

They didn't enjoy the mud of 2007 and I believe they felt it was a bit of a snub to be 2nd top of the Other Stage when they were sub-headlining Reading.

Also, they strike me as the type of band who are motivated mainly by money, hence the exclusivity deals signed with R&L and Oxegen.

  9. Teenager? I'm 20 x

Also I'm definitely not sure KoL were the same size as Elbow AT ALL, they subbed at Reading and played high up at T/Oxegen previous to headlining Glastonbury.. KoL have and will always be a much bigger band than Elbow, not necessarily better, but bigger for sure. There's no point in you all crying about it because it makes it no less true.

And there's too much contradiction in here for me to even get my head around, one minute people are saying KoL weren't charismatic and completely had the crowd feeding from the palm of their hand, and the next minute they're saying they showed other festivals that they could headline a huge festival.. therefore other festivals wanted them to play.. so which one is it?

Jesus christ I've never came across a bigger bunch of buffoons in my entire life.

  10. Hands up, people who were there, those who thought Jay-Z was a 'triumph'? I quite like hip-hop, quite enjoyed the gig, but most people around frankly looked pretty bored.

Could name a dozen acts from 08 who people seemed to enjoy a tonne more.

As for the general post - I think it is probably a coincidence. And I think the comments of Noel are probably not enough to change the course of music [:P]

  11. Funny thing about mentioning bands like Coldplay, Radiohead, Muse, KOL as now being big enough to headline is the identity if the festival that gave them their first headlining slot (see also Oasis, White Stripes). Glastonbury has a history of promoting bands to that stature and if someone's good enough, put them on. R/L beat them to the punch with Arcade Fire and that shouldn't happen again, plus how else can an act get to be regarded as a headliner?

  12. based on nothing but my own guesswork, but I have a hunch that if it's U2 Friday and Prince/whatever American artist they've 'been trying to get for yonks and yonks' on Sunday, that means two acts who have never headlined or even played before. Therefore I suspect they'll go for a 'safe pair of hands' on the Saturday (see Muse this year), a Coldplay/Radiohead/Kasabian/Elbow* type.

*disclaimer-I hate Kasabian and love Elbow but am not convinced they're big enough or would hold a Pyramid headline crowds attention
