Read it again and notice that 03 and 05 are missing too, it was part of his/her point
edit: Also 97 is missing... Who was it that year?
-
Indeed...
Stealing an analogy used for a different subject on the discussions page, It's like the emporers new clothes, the majority of people claim to see clothes where there are none and only a few of us can admit we can see his todger swinging in the breeze

i really dont fink radiohead, dont kno y, doesnt seem there crowd, and plus ther shit
-
Yeah we cant have 3 indie acts headlining its not right!
Sunday is metal day!
-
they deserve no place at glastonbury
-
Oh f**king great. R&L Shitfest 2009.
Even though the headliners dont affect personal enjoyment as there is like 100 more bands on, it still affects who buys tickets, if there is no heavier day it will be a big shame.
KOL & AM fans = not good.
-
i don't think radiohead would be able to hold a crowd on the main stage possable NME though
-
they really shouldnt have KOL, arctic monkeys and radiohead, its to indie for R/L.
They need one break up band and thats got to be greenday or AC/DC imo.
so arctics, KOL and AC/DC or Greenday.
Id buy a ticket for that, i wont if its pure indie.

Forget the credit crunch for a minute.
What with Blur and Oasis headlining two of its main competitors, and there being not one but two massive metal festivals this time, I'm no longer so sure.
Now remember the credit crunch. Most people who want to do a festival will probably still do one. The number who would ordinarily do more than one is going to plummet though.
-
People on this forum seem to be really closed off to what a massive ticket-selling combination these bands are... It'll sell out straight away, as usual.
-
This is the kind of thing, which if true, gives credence to the suggestion that they have disappeared up their own arses. I accept the possibility that some headliners are able to influence the bands on before them (would Tenacious D have sub-headlined if they hadn't been playing shows with Metallica last year?) but they shouldn't be given the right to decide who plays before them.
Also, although I'd probably watch Radiohead, the lack of variety between the three headliners (if these three bands are headlining) means that we better be given some variety in a few of the higher main stage slots.
-
If radiohead are headlining ( which i hope they are) they chose who they play with. They are not going to have lostprophets under them, thank f**k.
-
whilst the headliners are disapointing,it should be remembered that last years were unlikely to be matched.it would be almost impossible for the organisers to put together a line up like that 2 years in a row,so we should all wait until thay announce who else is on the bill before we write the entire festival off.
-
Again, I suspect thsi is the case of people underestimating the appeal of bands that they dont like. Bands that sell the amount of records that am do, sell out the venues that am with a recent headline glastonbutry slot do not second healine festivals like reading/leeds. Can you imagine the fee that a band like am would command. Festival republic wont pay that for someone second on the bill. Arctic monkeys will be a huge draw.

I would hazard a guess you'd be better trying to bribe the gate staff with a bag of magic beans.
Smells like horseshit to me

that might well get factored in now, and allow them to release some names earlier than they'd have otherwise been allowed. But I'm only guessing at that.
The fact is that for any show of any size there's not much room for there to a profit in it if there's unsold tickets. So while there's (I'm guessing) around 10,000 Glasto tickets left, if people bought the Glasto tickets instead of, say, Blur's London shows tickets then those London shows might fail to make a profit, and might even make the promoter a loss.
Because Glasto gets its acts (compared to their normal fee) on the cheap, Glasto often has has to play second-fiddle to those other promoters - those promoters understandably want to protect the shows they've invested their money in which sell on just the name of the one act. Glasto doesn't (particularly) sell itself by the acts that are appearing but by 'the whole thing', and so doesn't need those names to sell itself in the same way.

A year after being made to look stupid by the Jay Z fiasco?
Being a tagged on headliner when Blur are making their big return as a headline act?
Being asked to play again after being so awful last time?
/edit: That said, it would be funny to see the old Blur vs Oasis rivalry reignited at Glastonbury! Naturally, Blur would wipe the floor with them
-
i wouldnt have a problem with it - they were great when they finished off the festival (Sigur Ros before them was an ispired choice), closing with spaceface - immense!!
but have they been away too long (almost 4 years of no activity whatsoever - apart from 2 gigs last year) that they warrant a headline slot?
as i said, i wouldnt mind, but will the bookers?
-
I'm crossing my fingers and hoping this is true. Admittedly, all bands I've seen before but still a cracking combination of headliners IMHO. I have to try and sort out my summer leave from work on Monday and will now be aiming to be off for R/L. I can see why it may not be what a lot of the metal fans were hoping for but there will hopefully still be plenty on the bill for them

I can help with backing up if anyone has old stuff they'd like to get from VHS to DVD. I have a Hard Drive-DVD Recorder and a VHS plugged into the back of it. Not very sophisticated, but it works a treat!
