Oooh really ?? Is it a good source? It’s not that mad is it… I know they’re bigger than tenant’s usual headliner but they still have a good budget.

Not really. Friend of a friend of a friend works for DF.

Not everyone is going to agree to it though. If you can be booked for a sub with longer time, why are you taking a 3rd place down with shorter time?

I think it's a case of Dave and Co just fancied playing it.

It is also worth noting that Coldplay played Glastonbury on the first year of at least 3 of their last 4 album releases, noticeably more so from when they headlined first.

I would think at the moment, Rihanna Dua Lipa and Coldplay is how this is going. Biffy Clyro, Olivia and Pulp in subs...not necessarily that order. I think The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers and a rock band of some sort. I generally other harder to predict as I'm rarely there at headline. Aerosmith in that Saturday 3rd down spot.

Reason I put Glastonbury next year too is I don't think the team behind Coldplay with want them to do Wembley again less than 3 years previous, in the same year as Glastonbury. Whether they go on sale early or not. It doesn't make sense for me for them to exhaust the UK on stadiums and play UK again as in this year. Exhaust the UK again in 2024 and then play Glastonbury as a we've nowhere to go.

Yeah it would make sense if they’re planning on doing a lot of U.K. shows in 2025. Foos effectively used it as an ad for their live shows, think we’ll see more big acts doing that. I’m still not totally convinced it’s them but it would make sense.

Off topic but The National on this tour are in such hot form, the best they’ve ever been - the Marymoor show I saw was incredible. They could throw 10 curveballs into the set when you see them and it’ll be a classic. (To bring it back on topic, we assume they’re now in the Foals Headline-Other-or-Pyramid-Sub category of not being able to do the biggest one)

Excellent. I’m looking forward to it so much (Soccer Mommy as support is a huge bonus) I rearranged a family weekend away-sorry kids! 😃

Yep - I reckon punter turnover between each festival must be around 20% or so. Maybe a bit higher recently due to the extra fallow years. Scale that across multiple years, and factoring it down slightly to account for overlaps, how many people who'll be going to the festival in 2024 were actually there in 2016 when Coldplay and Muse last played? My guess would be somewhere around a third, but it could even be under a quarter.

Full disclosure: I was at the festival in 2016, and didn't watch either act. I won't be watching if they play 2024 either, but can fully appreciate that many people would be excited about the prospect and for them it'd be a first time experience and potentially a chance to replicate a "magic moment" that they saw on TV and got them interested in the festival in the first place.

Exactly. I don’t get it. There’s a small pool of acts that can headline Glastonbury, and an even smaller pool in any particular year once you factor in availability. There’s gonna be 100k+ people paying probably near £400 for tickets next year, but they shouldn’t get to see a particular act headline because they’ve done it before and those lucky enough to go every year are bored of them? Doesn’t seem fair.

Equally yes a big headliner is going to play a lot of songs they played last time they headlined. Part of the reason they’re a headliner is because they’ve got a stash of popular songs that have endured. I’m going to see The National in September, I’ll be a bit miffed if they refuse to do any of the songs they played last time they were in Glasgow because ‘we’ll we’ve played these here before.’

  5. Don’t get the beef about repeat headliners. It’s the very lucky few who get to go regularly who are bothered, yet they’re the ones who are most likely to understand the constraints GFL are under when booking headliners, and also that there are always lots of other choices at that time. I wouldn’t want to see Coldplay every other year, but I could totally understand them being booked next year if they were keen.

Sorry, Why'd you only call me when your high?

I thought R U Mine? was impressive this year. I'm definitely done though as far as seeing them goes.

    Ah gotcha

Yeah 2013 was great. Had they included Do You Wanna Know? in that 2013 set and not waited until 2014 touring then I'd have skipped them at Glastonbury and saw chems or Carl Cox.

They opened with that in 2013?

2013 was good. The idea that they weren't is just repeated by the same few people (who weren't even there) over and over again on here until people think it's a fact.

I didn’t go but 2013 looked great. Much better than last month.

I enjoyed Arctics but having watched them back I can see how it may not have been people's cups of tea. It's not always the case for every act, but if you're performing in the dark in a headline slot, I think having a very dim stage set up doesn't help the cause for people who may want to see what they're about/giving them a go. That coupled with a lack of crowd interaction can mean it'll be very hit and miss for a lot of people. I know you're there for the music, but I do think a live set can be enhanced with some visual eye candy.

Dark stage/lack of crowd interaction/long gaps between songs/playing the well known stuff too slowly is not a recipe for a classic Glastonbury headliner set.

If there's anyone I'd back to pop up at the festival and do a one off performance, it's Coldplay. Can imagine after this tour they'll be taking a very long break, so what's more ideal for them to finish up at Glastonbury. Could also see that being 2024 tbh, but think if these dates stretch beyond June 2024 then they have to be decent contenders for 2025.

Oddly, given their well known love of the gaff, they’ve never done a one off, it’s always part of a bigger tour even if they tweak the show for Glastonbury. Think their modern stage set is too complex.

I entirely had them down for 2025 (with Swifty and Fender) in my head maybe near the start of their next tour (as they did in 02 and 11) but them doing dates in 2024 has thrown me, got to be in the mix for next year now.

If I want to listen to something adventurous then Coldplay are pretty low down the list.

Everyday Life is surprisingly quirky for them. Pretty good too.

  12. I love them but they'd be a weak headliner. I was at all 3 days of TRNSMT this year and their day was noticeably less busy than the Fender/1975 days. I think they'd be great obviously but not sure if their Pyramid headliner days have just squeezed by.

I don't want to hear any more of this Roxy Music, Pulp, Eagles or any other band in the legends slot malarkey!

*Sigh* I really spent way too long making this.

It’s a magnificent piece of work though

Ah for some reason I thought it was because Murder Capital were having technical issues. I tuned in and the band were on stage testing their gear for a while. Shame they had to cut their set down, but they were great

I went over to the tent for their start time and waited around a bit before sacking it off to go and meet a friend. Found out as on my way home I got talking to someone who works for the BBC doing their sound mixes from the Park and Other. He showed me the pictures he’d been sent by a colleague.

    1) I think presale is still open but tickets will be limited by now

    2) potentially her friends could use them - i believe AXS have confirmed that tickets will be able to be transferred in future. Otherwise your wife may have to give her friends the login for the AXS/TM acc

    Thank you

If she's playing hardball in the negotiations and asking for more money than the average headliner it might actually factor into their thinking.

Yeah definitely. If it’s Madonna they’re negotiating with and she’s pushing for a bit more they might waver I suppose. Not sure they’d do that for Rihanna. But as long as she’s not trying to go beyond their ceiling she’s a big enough booking to justify it.

  17. I realise this info may be elsewhere but this is a long thread and it’s all very complicated so any help appreciated please

    1) My wife has an unused code from the last presale, will it work tomorrow?

    2) What’s the situation with buying for someone else? I know it has to be done through her email and TM Account but could friends use them? (We got ours on Monday but know a couple of people who didn’t)?

Plenty of people on here have seen people with apparently poor live shows or bits of  and enjoyed them immensely .... GNR and Elton were both mentioned at some point during the last headliner thread for voices being shot ... I saw Lionel recently who had a terrible rep from a broadcast performance and I loved every minute ... id probably see Rhianna too its what you make of it on the night and how many songs you are familiar with

Exactly, totally agree. I’ve seen some really poor live videos of GNR/Elton/Lionel but really enjoyed all 3 at Glastonbury. Arctics have an iffy live rep, McCartney couldn’t sing anymore according to many, Kanye was a big gamble. They still booked them.

I’m not a Rihanna fan and wouldn’t go and see her but (could almost copy and paste this bit) if Glastonbury can get her for the fee they pay they would be insane not to do it. Internet rumblings about her live credentials are irrelevant.

The u.s dates in dec and january are still happening btw.

to further clarify there was somebody in here that said Madonna would be in north america in June next year which  points towards the rescheduled dates. Then yesterday somebody I know that works at the label said July for Los Angeles. So put it together and the chances are lowered she would be at glasto if her tour begins sometime in June. Especially since glasto is at the end of June in 2024?

if Ariana Grande wasnt busy making a movie and had an album in the works would that satisfy enough people in here? Signs point towards yes with a small batch of folk who object.

quite enjoying now that another cover band is not the front runner to headline the festival. Amazing standards being kept.

yes with a small batch of folk who object” sums up the reaction to most acts.

I’ve tried to decipher that last paragraph but I can’t. What standards are being kept, by who, and according to who?
