    Re: Sting

His recent tour 'My Songs' is a feast of hits, including loads of Police songs. https://www.setlist.fm/stats/average-setlist/sting-33d6a045.html?tour=4bd06bce

He may not be your thing but there is no doubt this set would go down well on a Sunday afternoon.

    I'd be there.

That is a pretty good setlist tbf... (never really considered him before)

My friend would have to sit in her CV with headphones on until it was all finished though... Musical artichoke and all that!

Went to the bar once this year. Middle of day. Absolutely f**king rammed. Nah. Victim of own success. Lost its charm.

Yeah, I dropped in there on Thursday afternoon trying to get some respite from the sun and it was mobbed.... Then returned on Saturday night to see Vintage Trouble and the tent was half empty.. (Mel C was on before and I saw the last couple of her set from the Avalon Inn on the big screen they have on the outside of the tent!!

The field is basically now just a large tent and a bar.. to your point a little charmless compared to what it used to be... If they are going to keep that set-up (I wasnt there in 2022 so dont know what it was then) then they will have to find some big acts to play in there..

Anyone know what the new capacity is vs the old.?

Neither offer much 'musicianship' either if that's what floats yet boat.

my boat is a broad ship... room enough for cheese and musicianship alike.. and certainly room enough for artists that i may never have another chance to see...

  4. whilst I am most definitely in the Annie Lennox or Stevie Nicks camp... either would smash it..!

I watched some of the BBC's Joan Armatrading coverage last night and if they want to continue with the legend being about more  musicianship than cheese they could do a lot worse... terrific watching.

tbf, neither AL or SN offer much cheese

Most people who I know who've done CV in the past have done it because they don't want to do standard camping (and prefer comfy bed, and a bit of quiet at night etc) rather than immerse themselves in a CV lifestyle!

I think Tuesday is a bit of immersing action....  Getting set-up (possibly with friends/family that you have met on the way down), cracking the first beers, meeting the neighbours, a nice bit of dinner, sitting of the HoD for a view of the site...

I love Tuesday in the CV fields.!

I’ve never cooked a meal in my CV at Glastonbury. There’s no chance I’m wasting hours tracking back and forth just for some food. I have breakfast, and usually a late snack on returning. In fact I can’t remember ever returning to the CV for any purpose during the day.

don't you turn up on the Tuesday.? Prime day for sitting around the van eating and drinking with family & friends..

Then once most of the masses have gained entry on Wednesday head down in the afternoon for a mooch / efests meet-up.?

Surely you must have a bacon sarnie for breakfast at some point??

Why on earth would you "eat out" if you have a CV.

Surely one of the benefits is being able to easily make your own meals

once iam out for the day (around 10/11am) I never go back to my campervan to cook , it would take too much time out of my day and I think most others are the same.

I'm with @gazzaredhere... you leave in the morning and thats you out for the day..

Granted you have the benefit of making your own breakfast in the morning and we normally have a chilli on Tuesday evening and a BBQ on Wednesday lunchtime before heading down late afternoon / early evening..

My perception on this (and its really to do with festivals in general) is people used to go to them and get to a certain age point or start to struggle with camping and then bow out.....glamping arriving in the early-mid 00s has changed the game, as when people now get to the traditional 'bow out' stage (which I'm now pushing towards) they now just pay their way out of it with glamping.

It means they get to still go the festival without all nasty bits (trekking in with bundles of stuff, setting up tents, sweating in queues for hours etc) and the festival still makes a lot of money from them paying for the pre-errected tents or glamping option.

What has come with that (and this is just my opinion) is that other people who would have previously never gone near a camping festival now see it as a more luxurious way of doing a festival so the glamping areas are now very popular,  have a mix of ex-standard older campers and new-glampers and the various organisers can charge the earth for it.

Excellent post. That's really got me thinking. If there were no campervan pitches, what do you think it would do to demand for the festival as a whole, and the demographic of attendees?

an excellent post indeed.. I have been attending since 2007 (aged 48) and have only stayed in CVE

If there were no CV fields it would have a big change on demographic... I would suggest the majority of CV'ers are 40+ and quite a number 60+ like myself..

I dont think it would change the demographic of SE Corner / Late night venues per se though, more the main stages where the music can be more mainstream..

What would change is the festivals economic model... the CV crowd are less likely to carry their own beer and food around the site and so bars and food vendors would take a hit. (I assume this is true for the pre-erected crowd too?)

Reckon they'd be a perfect Sunday night closer on the Other.

I would love to see them headline Woodsies myself.. Partly because the Other is my least favourite stage but I also think they are a band that like to connect with their audience and Woodsies feels better suited to that

Yes they were at least before the bands came on - we were watching him draw live - he was by the sound desk. Not sure about during the set though as I managed to get an access platform last minute place to sit down ( hadn’t had hip replacement when I booked and waiting for next one! )

Whenever they were executed it was a genius and classy connection to the songs.. Typical of what they do.

I hope the hip action was and continues to be a success…. (I am awaiting the first knee replacement)

Just on the way to work, still on a high from last night. 58 songs over 2 nights is just insanity. Crowd seemed a bit more lively than Tuesday.

The live drawings from last night are going to be auctioned off for charity. Anyone know where? Would love to get my hands on the About Today one. Absolutely cried like a baby halfway through that.

I was figuring that they would do prints of the drawings on future merch…

my daughter would certainly love a couple of them

  12. The excitement of watching Setlist update in real time for tonight’s show….!!

24 tracks in and they are all different!

they are only going to do it 😳

    25!

    26!

Depends who it was. She wouldn't sub Dave, but she could sub Fleetwood Mac. She was as big in 2010 and she subbed McCartney. You and I discussing this is also irrelevant. If she is presented with a scenario where she feels the sub gig is cool, she'll do it. She's very level headed and not an ego freak

    She does call herself Pink...

Do we think they'll be on the UK / EU festival circuit next year?

They have added a handful (10?) of new US dates after Europe later this year and also announced Australian dates for March 2024... Would love to see them come back and absolutely smash a Glastonbury set..

I would say a 10% rise on what we paid this year. As for the max price I suppose it all depends on personal circumstances, I’d gladly pay more but then I’m also very conscious that the tickets have to remain affordable for the vast majority.
I’d always put getting a ticket a priority over a summer holiday if I had to. The build up, the five great days on site and the memories created. It’s difficult to put a price on it!

Likewise for me... Glastonbury has been my main holiday for years, particularly when my daughters were younger and I was buying their tickets also..

  16. I verified my family registrations when GFL told you to a few weeks ago...

Then this week they sent a reminder so (being a worrier) i checked the registrations again... They had managed to youngest daughters forename onto eldest daughters registration...!

I edited and corrected the erroneous forename and checked again and they had transposed the both of them! So 2 incorrect forenames.... (I hadn't been drinking)

I edited the both of them and that seemed to work...

Now have to scurry off and check again.. (all OK)

They lost a lot of pace, but I've been consistently impressed by everything that Jungle have been releasing recently.

Maybe not quite at headline level, but could smash a choice slot.

Headliner for me.... although i've not forgiven them for kicking Rudi Salmon into touch..

  19. I travelled into the office in London yesterday, which gave me ample time to have a proper listen to The first two P's of F..

Like all that has come before it, its a grower that will definitely have favourite tracks changing over time.. I could not tell you a Taylor Swift song because they go in one ear and drift out of the other but I am pretty much obsessed by The Alcott, a really beautiful song. Tropic Morning News and Alien are also up there..

Cant wait to see them at Ally Pally (even if its a pain in the arse to get to/from)

  20. OK. ive given up on the Doobie Bros... (its not a band slot)..

I am now all in for Annie Lennox .. She has been on stage a few times in the last couple of years and her voice sounds remarkable.

    (it'll be RW)
