  1. Daily updates of facts is one thing, discussing the virus is another thing, and that's fine by me.

What I don't understand are the people in this thread that won't even allow an optimistic comment to go by without coming in and insisting on the likelihood of the festival being cancelled. What is to gain from being like that?

I think what frustrates me is these are the exact kind of people that will lead to a situation of the festival being prematurely cancelled when it shouldn't be. So reading them show up on this thread over and over is like hearing nails on a blackboard for me.

I know - why am I looking at this thread if some of the people on it and their posts annoy me so much? I will avoid from now on.

Would be strange for Glasto to make a rare (for them) claim to an exclusive if it's not the case.

    I'd say they definitely are.

Has anyone else wondered about All Points East and Glastonbury having some competition/conflict?

Goldenvoice, the company behind APE, is infamous for highly restrictive radius clauses acts are forced to sign to play their festivals as well as aggressive, anti-competitive behavior towards festivals in the new markets they enter. I believe this behavior is tolerated because of their large paychecks.

When the first APE happened in London I was blown away by the lineup but noted that it happened on the Glasto fallow year, and I believe that was on purpose.

Glastonbury is in a very special position in the music industry, and I think a U.S. company coming in and trying to muscle away acts with large paychecks... I think all Glasto would have to do is make the slightest peep for the whole country to get outraged at GoldenVoice...

And this is all complete bullshit/internet conjecture, but I wonder if the Glasto LDR announcement (and calling it an "exclusive") plus APE's trouble announcing their full lineup in a timely manner relates to this wildly hypothetical story I've had running in my head since that first APE...

here are 2 links for context to my statements about GoldenVoice

Their terrible radius clauses - https://www.spin.com/2018/04/coachella-radius-clause-lawsuit/

GoldenVoice trying to muscle smaller festivals - https://www.stereogum.com/1854338/all-points-east-what-the-hell-is-going-on-with-panorama-governors-ball-the-battle-for-new-york-city/franchises/sounding-board/

(Governors Ball was able to survive and even chase out GoldenVoice in the end, but 4 months after this article they sold their formerly independently run company to LiveNation, which is probably the only reason they were able to win)

You can still buy tickets for taylor swift, i just tried - 90 quid a ticket

Yes, I was referring to general admission, which has sold out. The 90 quid ticket is for something called "primary entry" which seems to be one of the numerous VIP packages that have yet to sell out. See here - https://www.bst-hydepark.com/tickets/11-july-taylor-swift

Kendrick Lamar general admission has *not* yet sold out. See here - https://www.bst-hydepark.com/tickets/5-july-kendrick-lamar

I am assuming that general admission is the overwhelming majority of the tickets so that could be the condition for allowing an announcement? Though I've no clue if BST selling out is connected to a Glastonbury headliner announcement being allowed or not just throwing out guesses during this dry news month. 🙂

If Kendrick has the same timeline as Taylor, he'll be announced in 9 day's time.

Kendrick did not sell out BST today. I think Taylor did?

Is it possible announcing Kendrick is connected to either selling out BST or a minimum amount of time from on sale if not sold out?

  5. In some other threads there was some discussion ruling out or including Hall & Oates based on their USA tour dates which have a Glasto sized hole in them.

Following my above hypothesis about people in the book showing up for the 50th maybe it’s a Squeeze sized hole, their tour mates, not Hall & Oates?

Pretty sure he does something on site every year (Stormzy's vest, the stuffed animals in the truck etc)

Cool and lovely! As this is my first year attending I will be searching twitter i bet to figure out what and where he is up to this year.

It’s funny he was in NYC where I live for a month but I never sought out his work that month (but I did follow & enjoy the news articles and photos of the work and stunts as they happened). It just seems like a very appropriate thing to do if visiting England for the first time, like I am - “see a live Banksy.”

  7. Just got the Glastonbury 50th book and very much enjoying it.

Was wondering people’s thoughts on the people who volunteered words for the book and how likely you think they will play or show up as a guest at the 50th festival? Do you think the festival is making special efforts to host/invite the below people in the book for the 50th festival?

Here is a list of people who wrote words:

    Melanie
    Chris Difford - Squeeze
    Peter Hook - New Order
    Billy Bragg
    Suzanne Vega
    John Cooper Clarke
    Jarvis Cocker
    Noel Gallagher
    Skin - Skunk Anansie
    Ed Simons - Chemical Brothers
    Banksy
    Chris Martin - Coldplay
    Jay-Z
    Ed O’Brien - Radiohead
    Guy Garvey - Elbow
    Dolly Parton
    Lars Ulrich - Metallica
    Adele

From the above I’d say I’d be most excited about Peter Hook’s band that’s doing Joy Division songs (which seems like a lock for Sunday looking at their current tour dates), I would be excited as a goofy foreign tourist if Banksy did something on site,  and Suzanne Vega. Though if Vega was a headliner that might be a tough choice for me with something else.

I would be curious how Skin from Skunk Anansie would appear - solo or with the band. I quite liked that band when they were active (I’m old)  and I see they’ve reformed and still play occasionally?

Guessing the most unlikely from the above would be Jay-Z, Dolly Parton & Lars Ulrich. I can definitely see Adele as a guest spot but don’t know for who...

I know Chris Martin said he wasn’t playing but... I mean, c’mon.

Ed O’Brien claims to have a solo album finished and will be touring this year... and we know Thom Yorke is likely playing...

I think Melanie would be a very nice surprise and Wikipedia says she is still active.

Chemical Brothers - I realize they seem unlikely because of last year but if Noel Gallagher is returning couldn’t they in some way?

Curious everyone else’s thoughts about this?

  8. 2 from my group will be throwing their coach tickets back - nothing to do with lineups or bad life stuff just more optimism than practical reality when they joined up in the first place. so the myth is real! :-)

i certainly hope those 2 end up going to 2 of those in this thread. good luck!

  9. I got this rucksack as a christmas gift (requested, of course)

    IMG_0511.thumb.jpeg.2c50389986804a34fff44fce144731b5.jpeg

next step is to practice pack it - it's advertised as 90L, but i also have to keep it under 51lbs for the airport checked baggage - which... is also very required for my back.

my sleeping mat, sleeping bag, camp chairs were bought thinking of car camping so i'll be trying with them first but have lighter stuff picked out on amazon if it doesn't work and i need to replace them with smaller/lighter things. well, not the sleeping bag i'm gonna make that work because it's very comfortable (and light, just bulky but will probably smush down if i put it at the bottom...)

no tent needed cuz our group were lucky enough to split a tipi

finally gonna try the glasto tip i read on here of making a hole in the top of my boots so i can clip them to the outside on either side
    .

    fun fun!

  12. Ooh! I'm quite ready for this thread because I've been working for a while now on a playlist of my favorite songs of the decade (I have 560 of them and it's now just a great playlist to listen to) and I've since pulled 30 of my definite favorites from that list trying to make a top 100... so pretty easy for me to make a top 10 right now.

I do feel the last year (2019) gets kinda fucked in lists like this but I assume it gets made up for in revised lists like mid-decade from now...

I can only give 10 tracks - I don't really listen to full albums much anymore except for a few times when they first come out...

I wish I had more than 10 so I could include - 25 Bucks - Danny Brown (feat Purity Ring)

    10 - 212 - Azelia Banks
9 - Where Are We Now - David Bowie
    8 - Runaway - Kanye West (ft Pusha T)
7 - We The People - A Tribe Called Quest
    6 - Real Death - Mount Eerie
5 - Jim Wise - Sun Kil Moon
4 - What We Loved Was Not Enough - Silver Mt. Zion
    3 - Drunk Drivers/Killer Whales - Car Seat Headrest
    2 - GMF - John Grant
    1 - Bloodbuzz Ohio - The National

  13.

I love this thread as I love covers, lists and music recommendation threads!

    Favorite Cover

    Improves on the original

(though i see so many people listing different johnny cash songs he was so good at this working with rick rubin late in life)

    Funny/crazy/lovely covers I love

Electric Six - Radio Gaga (already linked earlier in thread)

  14. I have a Glastonbury shopping list on Amazon and my sister bought me an item from it as a belated birthday present - this anker battery -

    https://www.anker.com/products/variant/powercore-speed-20000-[upgraded]/A1278011

This is actually my *second* of these but I have a feeling at least one of my friends will need extra battery power plus I may bring other energy-requiring things so I figure two will be helpful. But to be clear these are both heavy and last forever - planning to keep them at the campsite.

  15. 4 of us trying manged to get 1 tipi. By the time any of us got in to see a booking page it was 10 minutes in and tipis showing as sold out but I knew from this forum to keep everyone hitting f5 and sure enough they would become available then disappear every now and again. Eventually one of us got a hold of one long enough to book and now we got one! We are all very excited!

Thanks again to this forum for always providing great advice!

Added the Streets/Chris Lorenzo tune to the Glastonbury 2020 playlist following Mike Skinner's self-confirm.

What do you use for the auto sync?

    https://soundiiz.com/

I pay like $36 for a year which allows you to convert playlists of over 200 songs and scheduled synchronization of playlists between platforms. Though the scheduled sync feature hasn’t worked so great it gives me duplicates - around 10 tracks every time which isn’t so bad right now but i bet will be a big pain once the playlist is a ton of songs.

But the coach always sells out ridiculously quickly as well. It's not as if people are leaving unsold coach tickets so they can drive.

If they want to get people to leave cars at home, they should incentivise people who didn't buy the coach ticket packages to travel by train or NE coaches.

I agree its' not to incentivize anything, as everything sells out immediately now so there is literally nothing to incentivize. If they wanted to increase coach travel it would be as easy as adding as many more more coach tickets as they wanted. They'd still sell out immediately.

I believe the reason is what @Johnnyseven said above it's to help out people who 100% guaranteed are not arriving by car, and so could especially use the help of a pre-erected tent.

  18. As a coach ticket holder I'll still be checking to see if I can get a tipi at 6PM as it can't hurt to check.

If, as it appears, that tipis aren't on sale until 7PM... I guess the good news for "tipis or nothing" people like me is that we won't be in competition with coach ticket holders that would have gone for tipis had the sale not been staggered, but will now be grabbing Worthy View to get the sure thing in the presale.

I think I'd prefer getting a crack at the tipis in the coach presale, but who knows maybe it's less competition this way?

I'm also wondering what's happening with the glasto-on-the-sea tents, the other thing our group would be trying for....

  19. Madonna and Taylor Swift, two headliner size acts, being pushed to "co-headlining" one night's spot while 2 males of a similar size get full, non-shared headlining slots for the other nights would not look good and I think the festival is wise enough about popular appearance to not entertain the idea.

HOWEVER, in the spirit of silly conspiracy and to join in the fun, could this below instagram post be Taylor Swift's team throwing shade at the insult of being asked to co-headline something? She uses the phrase "headline" 2x and it feels a little weird and forced to me....

Again, I'm being goofy just to join in the fun....

  20. jinx! i just decided yesterday to convince my group to try for a tipi for those reasons plus (and please anyone correct these if i am wrong) -

    TIPIS PROS

--great placement but without the overcrowding/youth/partying of the other well placed fields

--a fence so less likely for someone to to, say, go to the bathroom in front of your tent or rob it (though i understand using lockups for valuables is still important)

--no one has to bring tents

--large enough to hang out in as a group

--showers but also close to lost horizons who have zero wait showers

--reserved placement so no need to worry about what time coach we are on

--proven mostly storm/rain proof unlike our tents and proven ground that doesn't flood unlike wherever we will pick camping

--REFUNDABLE UNTIL APRIL 1ST - so we can change our minds anyways

    TIPIS CONS

--harder to get than a ticket

    --$$$$

--possibly less festival "atmosphere", more snobby/standoffish (though i generally have read tipi people aren't so bad? maybe?)

--we still have to figure out airbed/sleeping bag/pillow etc

---we have to all sleep together and i snore louder than a lawnmower

i'm hoping us coach people also get early access to tipis in addition to worthy view, though they have pretty clearly not said that so i realize it's likely we do not.
