  1. yeah, agreed...but at same time these people need to get elected. Republicans could win the senate in the mid terms, and then a lot of Biden's plan will be screwed, and then could get a republican president, maybe even Trump, next time around, and then we're all screwed. And for labour, they need to win. People may be all for progressive politics, but if means sacrifices rather than Johnson's boosterism then labour aren't winning. Maybe it's democracy that's the problem!
  2. ..maybe this will get a bit of coverage too...
  3. Or...get a hydrogen boiler, fly in a hydrogen powered plane, drive an electric car, and eat your children.
  4. Turn off the heating, don't fly, don't drive, don't eat meat. Simple
  5. love the way you're using liberals derogatively, but you're pinning you're hope on the CCP authortarian, non democratic, state allowed free market way of running things because that seems to be the only alternative. Anyway, pointless saying which ideology is the best, all sides are doing a pretty good job of fucking the planet. Socialism alone isn't going to save the planet, it is going to be have to be a mixure of state intervention, new technologies, and a whole bunch of massive lifestyle changes for a lot of people.

  7. tories are all for state aid etc under Johnson...maybe neo-lib policies are dead in this country (and in US). Of course Starmer is a neo lib fascist, I mean it's obvious, you just have to look at his chin and suit.
  8. China have developed rapidly, and have a massive population...that's the reason. But, there are reasons to be optimistic with the way China is going, as outlined in that bbc article...
  9. man, unbelievable. One day I will get there first.
  10. they are in process of binning that due to aging population problems seen elsewhere. The challenge for China is massive, huge population becoming wealthier and wanting more things. They need to move away from using coal, but at moment they're still building new coal plants.
  11. cool. Will be very interested in how you get on.
  12. Green party are all over the shop, they have their own divisions, and both leaders have just quit. I wouldn't hold out too much hope for them. I think we're just going to have to hope that the government we have make the right decisions and get us to net zero in the next few decade...but, in the end this is a global issue and we really need the big boys like US, Russia, India and China to move away from fossil fuels etc...and for Brazil to leave the amazon alone. Hopefully scientific breakthroughs save us...if there is money to be made then maybe we have a chance. Or maybe all the billionaires are building rockets to get the fuck out of here.
  13. kind of similar to my marathon training...although longest run I'm planning on doing is 22mi (35k). In actual marathon races I always use gels, but for ultras I wouldn't really like to be taking gels all the way. I guess you need to get used to running with a backpack thing too. Is Wendover Woods 50 one of those where the route is easy, or will there be some orienteering involved?
  14. The changes that are required to avert disaster are massive. Hopefully now that it is starting to hit wealthier countries then this will start to get things moving properly.
  15. What sort of training do you do? Lots of long runs with practising taking on food and drink as you go? What sort of food do you eat, gels and stuff, or real food?
  16. yeah...there is this in April... https://www.gbultras.com/liverpool-to-manchester-ultra/ 50mi though...that's a long way...Or I could travel and go to one of the more bigger, popular ones...but some look pretty hardcore!
  17. I think the organisers (cannonball) have gone bust.
  18. you lot still going? It's time to move on to the next one...and this one's a biggie...
  19. Which Ultra you doing? I keep thinking I should have a go at one... but bit scared. Thinking maybe attempting something next year...maybe Manchester to Liverpool.
  20. Rest Is History podcast recently did one episode on the ancient Olympics and two on the modern Olympics... recommended.
  21. Did a longish run yesterday in really silly weather. Biblical. Felt like I was the only person outside. Well done on that park run Kalopsia, and impressive swimming crazyfool.
  22. First Olympics I remember was 80 in Moscow, no USA, and we had Allen Wells, Coe, Ovett, Daley Thompson...and next one in LA and no USSR. Happy days.
