Think you've done a stand up job of that yourself mate
not really, only to others who choose to ignore the obvious references

black yes, correct. but they aren't going to headline Glastonbury so it's fine.

It’s pretty demeaning of him as an artist to assume he was booked because he’s black.
If they wanted a cheap headliner for diversity they could have sent you out with the boot polish again.
This is quite laughable considering this whole board had been talking for the last couple of years about diversity of acts being booked. I'll remind you all of Kendrick, Travis, The Weeknd all being mentioned for slots. Slots to include all cultures and races.
So tell me when the last white rapper was to headline Glastonbury...I'll wait.
Now tell me when a white rapper was available apart from Eminem to headline Glastonbury....again I'll wait.
By 50 Cent's own admission, rap is black music primarily, there is no getting away from that. So Glastonbury booked it as a way to be diverse. They didn't have to make the booking they chose. Just like Jay-Z, they didn't have to.
Don't ignore the actual facts behind it all.

How likely are the rumoured positions? Eg. Ghost headlining second stage on Sunday?
It would be a surprise if Pendulum, Evanescence, Placebo and Ghost were not second stage headliners. The only one I'd see different is if Within Temptation were instead of Evanescence.

Are we still pretending they pay every headliner the same?
I couldn't give a shit, it's not my money. But they haven't dodged Elton for years and suddenly been like, oh...here's loads of money.
You compare it to a money making band likes The Stones you they publicly tried to get for years.

Yikes
What's the issue? He's a black rapper?, it's not racist. But for the people choosing to interpret wrongly, I will rephrase. He was a black rapper booked for diversity that would not have cost a lot.
There is no need to make it into something it is not.

She really isn’t.
Agreed but not was Stormzy when he headlined. That was purely a festival diversity booking move.
I've no issue with the type of music etc that headlines but the festival wanted a cheap black rapper who said the right things and he was an option. Already only being booked for APE after topping Glastonbury and Reading. That's your 5 minutes of taking the fame chances though.

I know its inflation. But apparently the festivals philosophy somehow changed to pay artists their due this coming year in some peoples eyes. Which will never be case even when a ticket costs over £400 really soon.
So ya'll still want Aerosmith?
I don't majorly want them but that's why the lack of tours....because they would be pulling them anyway.

I agree and don't think Pulp are headlining, was more just calling out supre's nonsense. Price shot up due to inflation
Me neither. The only reason TRNSMT and IOW have them topping is because it's the only event in their areas with music festivals at all big enough for Pulp. The difference down is that where R&L would have booked Pulp for a decent payday even back in 2012, there is no point now so events the next line down come in. I never expect the likes of Kendall, Y Not, Truck or Tramlines to get them. And Victorious is more a festival I think that would get them next year if still around. They are too big a reunion for that. Scarborough Open Air did very well to get them mind.

Could see James very empty at headliner time especially against Elton John. Maybe mid other would be better? Pyramid afternoon even
Yeah James would be either earlier Pyramid or like 3rd down Other. Not headlining JP but I'd actually be tempted to see it over Elton.

Save money on Pulp to pay Elton more. Not difficult to understand
I don't think they would have made an exception for Elton funding wise.

Can’t speak for Megan as I didn’t see, but I was at CATQ and it was too big a slot for her.
She had a tiny crowd.CATQ headlining Other was always too big a slot. Did that not happen due to a drop out anyway and it was meant to be a Other subbing spot?

Can’t see someone who headlined R&L going third down at glasto. Think you’re underestimating what kind of slot she will pull.
It was generally shared I feel that Halsey was a week choice. MST was questioned much less.

Well she was an other sub equivalent last time and has blown up since then. Given her asking prices on tour I doubt they can afford to give much less.

That's the thing right there - Europe & The States, yeah without doubt. But here in the UK she's just not a ticket shifter at festivals. Has a big dedicated fanbase of her own, with some recogniasble hits hence why she's sold out the O2 - but at Glastonbury she's never commanded a decent crowd and even as recently as last year at Reading/Leeds she didn't either.
I'm not saying she's not big enough / good enough - I'm just saying she's proven in the UK not to have the pull she does in America and Europe which is the same for many UK acts overseas such as Kasabian in their prime, Foals or even Arctic Monkeys as recent as AM.
Yeah I mean I wouldn't know a title of Halsey's songs except Without me but I would know the song. But then I wouldn't know MTS at all without tiktok and still can't name a song. I think she could take the Other sub that arena acts have tended to in the past or 3rd down Pyramid. Given her lesser UK status it's probably a good move.
The Black Keys subbing The Prodigy is a given for me almost.
Kasabian to sub QOTSA
Halsey to sub/3rd pyramid Sam Smith with Becky Hill 3rd down
Pulp, Lizzo, Doja Cat to sub Pyramid
Royal Blood, Paulo and that Halsey potential 3rd down.

Just don't book him at all. Absolutely awful artist.

I’ve heard that The 1975 either turned down/pulled out of Victorious, and are instead going to do a Finsbury Park show instead next summer.
(they previously had a show there lined up for 2020, but was cancelled due to covid)
Good, they're shite

I agree! He would get an hour in that spot at Download so I’m half convinced he’s been booked - especially as he’s playing Hellfest! I think it would be a great booking for Download
Remember the things with Euro fests is they are much different and more crossed genre.
In the UK, Reading was very much that festival that would have a band playing higher at Download lower at Reading because they don't fit it as much and playing lower benefits the band too to get more fans interested before their must sees higher acts.
Download book bands that fit what they want and give them slots they believe, that is not going to include giving an arena act a 3rd down spot. Reading 2024 is much more likely.
I think we will see a bit of a shift in Reading top bands next year too. I honestly can see them booking is a bit different.
You've got Paramore, MGK, Blink 182 that are all going to be into a next phase of touring and unless Download book Blink I only see them playing one place.

a) Only 8 bands announced for that day so far. There's like 30-40 bands per day, so many more to come.
b) People who like Papa roach should also enjoy While She Sleeps, Landmvrks or Paledusk. If not, there's so much stuff to do apart from music.
Nope, one is a rock band and one is a metalcore band. Totally different genres.

Funeral for a Friend sold out a pretty extensive academy tour last time out so surely they could just outright headline?
That was my first thinking. You won't a bigger than Academy band headlining trees.

Truck gets good acts as it links into a group. Were it on it's own the lineup grade wouldn't be close to as high. Certainly wouldn't get Sam Fender subbing.
