  1. Both of the above, The Smile & Brittany Howard, are obviously good but they need repeated listening to really appreciate. Still not sure how good they are! (By coincidence playing The Smile now).

  2. I find much of Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres really annoying because it’s so much manufactured pop, songs like Biutyful and Humankind, but the main reason is I really have loved much of what they’ve done in the past and would still enjoy them as a live act so to dislike their last album so much makes it all very frustrating.

I don’t know I have seen a fair few celebrities at Glastonbury and never bothered any of them.

Admittedly we probably bothered Andrew Marr many years ago, as we had been drinking and one of us was wearing a Barack Obama mask, so we asked Marr if he would interview him, which he did, sort of. Then we left him alone.

I also acted like a stupid fanboy when I met Mick Jones of The Clash in the old Strummerville.

I thought they might get away with the the only 1 female headliner thing by doing a full Saturday of female acts on the Pyramid.

Reckon we’ll be lucky to get a line up as strong as this! And thanks a couple of acts listed I wasn’t aware of but fancy seeing now.

Not sure if this is here already.

Not sure any new names that haven't been discussed but... hey

Don't think Hozier has been mentioned, it's happened before, a 'secret' Woodsies followed by the Pyramid next year.

I feel like Emily totally makes a rod for her own back with the female headliners stuff. Doing that podcast and after last festival saying there should be 2 female headliners in 2024 will just lead to even more backlash when there is just one. Feel like she just shouldn't hint at things like that until they're official which clearly wasn't.

I always believe it should be on merit and merit only, if it's 3 female headliners one year, great. If it's 3 male headliners one year, great. As long as over the course of the festival year on year it's transparently not biased in any manner.

"Sex Offender" - As far as i'm aware none of this Win Butler stuff has gone to court, or even involved the police.

On the other hand, two members of last year's headlining band were literally charged with statutory rape in the 1980s and hid from the police for several weeks until charges were dropped due to 'lack of evidence'.

It's a fair comment, if everyone had been banned from performing at Glastonbury on allegations alone there would be quite a list. To start with, Mick Jagger and David Bowie.

Yep that's how I understand it - unless it's changed again since, he's in a big house still close enough* that he's still very much around the place but technically no longer on the farm (and outside the superfence perimeter).

*someone pointed it out to me one of the years I was working, but I don't feel it'd be appropriate to put the exact location on here.

It’s a huge place isn’t it? Friends that live nearby in Street showed me a photo when it was built some years ago.

Got a lot of time for The Magic Numbers, lovely people too.

Yeah, I met Michelle when she was performing in a Manchester pub about 3 months ago. She came across very well. Her solo stuff was good too.

I saw him play with The Wailers a few years ago. Sadly it was a bit of a tragic performance, they brought/carried him on and sat him down, put his fingers in the right spot on his bass and he'd sort of play for a few moments then stop and look as if he'd fallen asleep. On repeat for each song. they did have another bassist to cover up his failings. Don't know whether he'd insisted on playing or whether they'd dragged him out for show, but it was probably the saddest spectacle I've ever seen on stage.

Now if we could get Tracy Chapman at Glastonbury that would be wonderful. Tracy Chapman the album has been one of my favourite albums forever. The first grown up album that I loved as a kid. It's a life ambition to see her live. This morning seeing the grammy performance has made me dare to dream. Please Emily!! For Me!!

You're absolutely right, I've been playing the album again over recent months. Every song is ace. Still think it's extremely unlikely we will see her but at least she's made an appearance after so many years.

How often does a heritage act release new material that actually stands with their classic stuff?

Doom and Gloom slapped hard, but struggling to think of many others.

Almost never, but they can sometimes produce material that’s worthwhile. From 2023 I reckon all of these made decent albums, without being classic: The Pretenders, The Rolling Stones, OMD, Paul Simon, Blur, Peter Gabriel, Cat Stevens.

Back to the original question… does anyone really want new material from Stevie Wonder these days?

Does anyone want 3-4 songs taking the place of older, and invariably better, material?

Erm, no! Just checking, probably fair to say his last good new recordings were some songs on Hotter Than July. 1980.

  14. I love Klezmer (& Balkan) music, Glastonbury helped as I saw Oi Va Voi there twice and the Bath band Ninotchka several times, they remain some of my favourite festival memories, also the Scottish band Moishe’s Bagel elsewhere. Off to see Paprika in London soon. I’d describe them as Electro-Swing, the great Argentinian band Gotan Project, sadly long since gone:
