How does "another headliner" mean there not a headliner?
-
From the official RW website, "Another headliner for Rock Werchter 2013: Depeche Mode. The British trio will take to the Main Stage before Editors on Sunday 7 July."
Surely that deems them not actually a headliner?
They're reportedly headlining BBK Live, which is fair as it's a smaller festival. I imagine they're headlining Peace & Love Festival as well.
-
There headlining on the continent.
-
People were saying similar things about The Cure (me included) - so off the back of that I'm stopping short of dismissing the chances of Depeche Mode headlining R/L.
-
Headlining Rock Werchter next year, i know that's not in this country but all depends on how the next album goes down, if it's number one and they get a good single then i can definitely see them playing 3rd
-
I'd be shocked if Editors played as high as 4th again, never mind 3rd.
-
Just got back from seeing Peace, absolutely incredible live band with quite a devoted fanbase. Only played the top floor at rescue rooms but it was sold out, I imagine they'll be about 2nd or 3rd on the NME next year provided they have an album out by then.

So what if we go with Biffy headlining Other Stage at Glasto and sub headlining V Festival? Then 2014 headlining T in the Park and Reading? Seem likely?
-
I'd say you're probably right, it's a long shot but there is just about enough space for a Glasto slot, but I wouldn't say it's likely, i would mean coming back here for next to no money and then back to europe.
-
I'm obligated to mention Depeche Mode have announced a world tour with quite a few European festivals. Not much room for UK festivals before August in there. I'd put my money on Bestival headliner but possible sub anyone?
-
I reckon one of the other headliners will be Biffy (don't we all? ) and if I had to name just one band fit Reading and Leeds and their demographic perfectly, it would be them. Seven times they've played, isn't it? So I don't think having two heavier headliners would be much of an issue.
-
What kind of placement would Atoms For Peace get at a festival? I'd love to see them but it seems like a hard one to place.
-
Why do you say that they can only share one headliner? They can share all three if they wanted to, it wouldn't be very wise but there's nothing to say that they can't do it.
-
Something that bothers me when thinking about the headliners is that T and R+L will be after pretty much the same bands (bar Sabbath) and can only share one headliner. T should be trying harder to bounce back after a disappointing lineup this year so they could probably book the stronger lineup.
Makes me think it will be similar to 2011 where we'll have an exclusive (eg. Sabbath/another heavy headliner), and then someone headlines R+L and subs T (eg. Mumfords/Biffy/Prodigy), and the other is a shared headliner (eg. The Killers/Blur).
-
Fun. wouldn't even make it to that song they do before being bottled off.
-
They've also received a bit of a bumming from Radio 1 recently.
-
Is there any particular reason Deftones are widely considered worthy of a step up to 3rd or NME header? Or that they wouldn't instead play Download rather than becoming a R+L house band?
-
With the whole Pearl Jam's tour dates not fitting with Download thing off AC's tweet; is it worth considering that Soundgarden will get the first half of the year to tour King Animal, and PJ will tour the last half of the year making Soundgarden unlikely to play R+L at all? Just a thought.
-
Would love it if Pearl Jam headlined, but can't see them Booking PJ and Black Sabbath. Would be too far away from the demographic.

Double post
-
I really don't see why people keep suggesting they'll sub, especially to a band who subbed a festival they just headlined.
-
Hmm didn't Melvin say there wasn't going to be a Metal headliner for quite a while.
-
There's the the thing. Billy's ego would probably demand it.
The reasons i suggested them are that they are not definitely headliners, explaining Neil's 'not necessarily' quote, and the fact they haven't been suggested, and also I love them
Would quite like to right the setlist though, not really a fan of Oceania.
Also they haven't played the UK in a while.
That being said I highly doubt it will be them.

Time for another riddle like on last year's thread, surely?
