Fingers crossed
It is good news but now you need a ticket and to pass a serological test to enter the festival 😀

I Too have doubts over 2021. Can’t see this being resolved anytime soon and would the festival really commit to another round of ticket sales, booking acts and everything else which must come at a cost until they could be pretty confident the event could run next year. I certainly don’t think we’ll have that level of assurance by October for the normal ticket selling window.
Also surely insurance that any of the companies involved in putting the festival together take out will now likely exclude pandemic/Coronavirus events - until suitable insurance was available could they even contemplate the event going ahead. I dunno. -
Think we can now be certain that last week of June this year will be stunning weather.
-
Not surprising and the right call (not that they had a choice). There are much more important issues that we all face, but crikey I’m gonna miss my trip to the farm this year. It’s going to be a bleak summer. Stay safe all.

Despite everything happening in the UK and Europe, I feel a bit more optimistic every day because how China is recovering.
We ARE putting in measures to stop this and we may well see this beaten before June. I think Glasto will wait.
Really love your optimism but that’s just not going to happen.

The most sobering from the Imperial paper is that we may need to keep these measures in place indefinitely possibly 18 months plus. I think my fears of 2021 at risk might have more foundation.
-
I know I'll be shot down in flames for this (and probably deserve to) & yes it's pessimism on steroids but..... I think there is a genuine risk that 2021 could not happen either. This is a long, long, haul that can only be 'fixed' by either letting nature run it's course (& associated deaths and health care melt down that I think we as a society will choose not to accept) or by miracle some antiviral or vaccine being available in quantities sufficient for the global population. You really can't put the genie back in the bottle now this virus is out there, this will require a war like mentality and as history tells us wars go on for years. Certainly life won't be back to how it has been for many, many months.
Right enough of my pessimism, here's to Glastonbury 2021!!

This is going to go on for months. Well into the summer. People didn’t think these measures would come in even though the government has been warming us up for it for 2-3 weeks. They are now warming us up for this to go through Summer perhaps even September/October.

The Press are not helping with this endless speculation. They’re just stoking the hysteria.
Thing is, this quarantine enforced or otherwise is going to happen. I’d also expect that Peston article to have been fed directly from government so would be v confident that what’s covered is what is in the plans and looking at other countries experiences it seem highly likely we’ll be having to carry them out.
When this first cropped up we joked that if the festival was cancelled that would mean it would be the least of our worries. Tragically we’ve reached that point. -
We are just about to live through a national, indeed global, tragedy with a scale of outcome not yet known. Whichever way you cut this in my mind is no time for a festival. Cancel now and regroup for the festival to end all festivals in 2021. The show indeed must go on but now is not the right time.

Everybody calm the fuck down

Are they going to cancel events for THREE months?
The answer is no they aren’t
I wouldn’t be so sure.

Feels like we’re clutching at straws here now.

Is everyone still worrying about the peak even though they said cancelling large events has little effect?
It has little effect at the moment. I imagine they’ll come into effect nearer the peak, then even a 1% change will have a big impact in terms of numbers (as the overall numbers of people infected then will be so high)
-
It really is looking game over, cannot imagine how it can be staffed with all this going on. Not sure I’d feel it morally right either, it’s gonna be an all hands to the pump event for the country to get through it. A party in a field at the same time just feels wrong.

Peak 10 - 14 weeks away - that sounds like nail in coffin to me...
Yep, unfortunately v much looking that way. Don’t think various authorities, police, healthcare will have sufficient resources to absorb the peak and be able to staff a festival.

Yes it's not a good moment but it isn't as bad as you are making it out to be
Can you elaborate please? Also I don’t appreciate your personal attacks. I’m raising my own opinions and not commenting on anyone else’s. Everyone is free to make up their own mind.

I heartily agree. I think vast majority of public are yet to understand what’s about to hit us both in terms of the infection itself but also the society changes we’re all going to have to adapt to for possibly many months. If you believe in science you should be really concerned.

This is the thing that does baffle me.
Yes everything is going as predicted so why are we waiting to implement control measures? Surely we should have implemented them as soon as possible to prevent a copy of what’s happening in other countries.Because we’ve got to let the epidemic run it’s course. We’re past the point where it can be contained therefore however many people will ultimately be infected will be the same control measures or not. The control measure simply attempt to control the speed of spread so that healthcare can cope and rest of society continue to function as long as possible. If we put delay controls in now we’d halt the spread now but it’s likely we can cope with the current numbers therefore it’s wise to let it run so we can get over the epidemic as quickly as possible with minimum pain.
People point to China still having relatively low numbers and we should emulate them but this is because they’ve still got massive controls in place. In a global society they will have to release them eventually and allow infection to spread across the rest of their population. Unless of course they intend to keep Wuhan and the area locked down for ever. -

Could be a lot worse though
Looks like the number is broadly in line with expectations, also that this would be the number infected 1-3 weeks ago, so they’d be a lot more right now. S Korea and Italy experienced similar increases. The thing with exponential growth is it takes a little while to get to the bigger numbers and then suddenly it gets very frighteningly large very quickly. Currently looking on course to have similar numbers as Italy in just over a week so expect some control measures to be implemented in the next week.

I think balance week will be telling, I think that’s the deadline they will have set them self to make a decision.
would they consider pushing back the festival to later in the summer?
I think you're probably right, ticket balance week comes at a suitable go/no-go point, as if we are to have a country wide epidemic it'll be very clear by that point.
I'm not convinced pushing this back gives much benefit, everything I've seen predicts a peak in June, decreasing through September before a second wave is predicted to start ramping back up at end of the year....too small a window & too big a risk to commit all the expense in trying to reschedule .

People will still continue to go to events I believe, they aren’t going to stay inside until this dies down.
That's why the government will cancel them.

2) The massive logistical operation to set the festival up being impossible due to too many suppliers/contractors having staff off ill, problems getting goods from Asia, etc;
That's a very good point. I know many of the onsite generators have to be sourced from throughout Europe and I'm sure there is other core infrastructure that would be reliant on getting kit from outside the country. The more I think about it, I cannot see how on Earth it will go ahead. Things will need to be all cleared up by end of next month (not just here but at least the rest of Europe) I'd of thought and that just doesn't look realistic.

China hasnt even gotten into the hundreds of thousands....
That's because they haven't released the control measures yet. They need to and then more will become infected. It's all about controlling aka delaying the impact of a large number of people being ill. It will be almost impossible to eradicate it from the country therefore the epidemic will continue across the country in a hopefully controlled manner.
When will this shit end?

Something playing on my mind for G2021 is could they get insurance to run the festival? I’d of thought Coronavirus disruption would be excluded, could you afford to run an event without this given it’s still likely to be circulating.
