  2. Their JP early evening show in 2007 was one of my best ever live experiences - would love to see them play (in a tent though I think, not mid afternoon on the Other Stage!). Off to see them on Wednesday next week, hopefully as a taster.

  3. Now going to use my vote in a small minded way by voting out those I've never really been to much and so don't really have an opinion on. Starting with:

  4. No, Wiggum I broke the rules and must be punished.

It's lunchtime I was browsing, found a story on digitalspy and then posted it quickly as I don't have a particulalry long lunch break. I enter the site through the forums page and so didn't see the new story. A couple of people in here are a bit quick to jump in and some people aren't as funny as they evidently think they are.

  5. [offtopic]They started on a friend of my cousin's in a bar in Manchester because he went, "Aren't you the Courteeners". They were (allegedly) off their face on marching powder and going on about how they were the greatest band in the world, and no one could touch them, and they were gonna be around forever.

    I don't think I've ever heard a song they've done. [/offtopic]

  6. Acoustic +3 (love lying on the grass just outside with pint of real ale)

  7. while Glastonbury has some sponsorship, compared to sponsorship at other festivals it's very minimal.

I'd personally prefer it to have none, but without the sponsorship it has there would be no Q Daily, no phone recharge facilities, no Queens Head, and very possibly quite a few less stages and bands to play on stages.

While I don't generally get to see the Q Daily, I've never recharged my phone at a fest, and I've never been in the Queens Head, I'd guess that these things have a lot of appeal for many of the people that go.

And I reckon I'd certainly miss some of the stages that would be likely to be lost, because (some of) the smaller stages probably aren't seen as financially viable on a commercial basis - after all, people in the main buy their tickets for the big famous acts and aren't attracted by the more sideshow type stuff.

  8. Hello there fellow Glasto goers! Need your advice on something.

Is there still a market for glowsticks?

Do people still want to rave it up in the dance tent with a glowing stick attached to their person?

Do people still want that friendly glow hanging from the inside on their tent on their return?

The reason I ask is cus every year I buy a load and flog 'em on...is it worth me doin again this year?

Let me know your thoughts good people!

  9. Sadly my avatar is an uncanny likeness - I very nearly sent a Penfold face shot off as nobody would have been able to spot the difference. Oh to be mistaken for Jude Law or Davinia MacCall - even a human would be a start!!!

  10. I stayed backstage for a number of years between 1997 and 2003 thanks to a friend of a friend in the record industry. Has pros and cons - the bar is quite cheap, food not bad, and toilets ok. The cut through is very handy and a definite advantage. The atmosphere though is very 'luvvy' with media darlings everywhere - getting out to the real site is far more rewarding. In the late 90's it used to have a great atmosphere late at night, especially when Keith Allen/Joe Strumer were holding impromptu karaoke sessions - last time I went this seemed to have disappeared and it had become very corporate. Our friend of a friend has now left the business, and I've started taking the kids to Glasto so we camp in the family field at Cockmill which is really chilled.

My advice would be to use the backstage for its advantages - toilets and cut through, but spend the rest of your time out in the site !

  11. Missed them last year but just watched a couple of bits of the set on youtube and it looked rammed - seem them in smaller venues before and it looked like they've moved to the bigger stages well.

  12. After ecstatic vodka-fuelled enjoyment of the Hold Steady set in the JP tent in 2007, made it halfway back to my tent but fell asleep alongside the Other Stage whilst apparantly the Coral and Rufus Wainwright played, only waking up at the end of Arcade Fire's set - guess what they were playing....!!!! <_<

  13. f**king awesome news, for all the doubters and those that haven't discovered them yet download iTunes Festival: London - Kasabian (Live) from the itunes store only a few quid and an incredible live set to get you in the mood..... :P:P
