  4. Loving the videos and the Tyler song. Can somone recommend a bit of a collective playlist (selected tracks to download and where to get them from)?

  5. I think someone mentioned in another thread that he is headlining Avalon on Friday night. I'd be gutted about that as I really want to see U2 but loooove Frank too. However, I've seen Frank about 4 times since last year's LF show so would probably stick with U2 if this is the clash. I'm not a huge U2 fan but I think it will be a talking point of this year's Glastonbury so I'll check it out - however I'll make sure I'm on the side of the Pyramid that will let me make a quick dash to Avalon if its dirge!

  6. The trick of sticking beer under your ground sheet at night really does work - come the morning, they are all nicely chilled. I stick with cans of bitter (the non-creamflow sort of course) as I can only drink lager really cold. Few beers at the bars during the day and then stick some of the cans into this baby for wandering round later/watching bands:

  7. Special guest slots are always one of those things in the back of my mind, everyones scared to miss what they would be their ultimate special guest but unless im around the park area at the time and have no other acts i want to see i rarely make the effort.

Thinking back over the last 3 times ive been i think there have been 8 or 9 park stage special guests and NERD on the pyramid, in total i caught 2 songs by the last shadow puppets and a 30 second guitar strum from jack white as he appeared with them. Of the others apart from last years Thom and Jonny set i cant think that id would have gone to see any even if the bands had been listed

  8. Thank's for that, much appreciated. Good man!

I suspect you are the only one on here who has joined. Shame really, I was hoping for a slightly better response from efestivallers, but, heyho.

  9. End of Jan and the Shangri-train is rolling, we've done the concept and design development, now working on detail and ploughing through the mountain of pre-production to be done. We've had some great news and there are a couple massive new scores that I can tell you about (as opposed to the ones that I can't tell you about).

We've just scored the use of 4 x 35k HD projectors for the video mapping, making a total of a whopping 140,000 lumen being thrown at that wall. Last year we had 72k, you'd have thought that would be enough but no, so big thanks to Darkroom and LM Productions for that - hopefully the videomapping in the Hub will reach its full potential this year.

A big thank-you goes to The Wellcome Trust, who have enabled us to make us exciting new developments this year by commissioning us as part of their season on DIRT to design and build a whole new aspect to Shangri-La….…introducing The Skywalk, Decontamination Chambers and Virus.

As you may know, Shangri-La has a storyline that evolves year by year and willingly or not, you become part of it. In 2009 it was a pleasure city run by a corrupt dictatorship. In 2010 the ruling administration was overthrown and the city was opened up to rebels and chancers who had to fight for resources to carve out their own little piece of paradise.

2011 sees the population preparing to flee before, as they believe, the end of the world in 2012. They've given up trying to save the planet, it was all a bit too much like hard work so they've colonised somewhere else instead. It's a new world, apparently much nicer, and only those who make the grade will be allowed to go there. Everything valuable has been shrinkwrapped in preparation for the first transport shipment to the new world (first ship leaves on Monday) and everything else, especially those vile and virus-ridden slums, is being left to rot in its own miasma.

In order to gain your place in the new and much nicer colony, please make your way to the decontamination facility, where the scientists there can determine whether you are in need of physical or moral decontamination. Post-decontamination, you will given your bio-hazard suit and only then will you be granted access to the Skywalk and be able to take the first step up out of the filth, your journey to the new world….

  10. My source who shared with me the Primal Scream tip tells me that the Chemical Bros are nailed on for the Saturday on the Other Stage and......wait for it.............drumroll...............negotiations are advanced for The Libertines to headline Sunday as one of a maximum of only two summer festival shows. This would suggest that the Pyramid Stage headliner on Sunday must be pretty big (probably a bigger draw than Pulp - who I love - would be)?

  11. I hear from a pretty reliable source that Primal Scream are going to headline the Other Stage on the Friday night doing their Screamadelica show - yawn! The whole world will have seen it by then won't they?

  12. The whole Avalon thing last year was magic, with some great moments. They must have wondered what the hell was going on when the aged novelty act before them (the Wurzels) had not just the tent but the whole field rammed and then almost everyone disappeared before they got on stage! I loved the fact that they changed their set to pacify the guy with the homemade placard who kept shouting for Murder in the City - but my god was it worth it because that song was the single best 3 mins of Glastonbury for me last year (and I'd never even heard the song before!). Fingers crossed for them to play - it certainly looks likely.

  13. Faves

Mumford & Sons (JP) - best crowd atmosphere of the weekend for me

Two Door Cinema Club (QH and Other) - destined for much bigger things

The Avett Brothers (Avalon) - brilliant set and loved the fact that such a big american band had to follow the Wurzels!

Frank Turner (Leftfield) - love Frank and this was a great show

Ash (JP) - great way to end the festival

honorable mentions to The Drums, Biffy, Courteeners

    Lows

Gorillaz - was so far back that there was little atmosphere and it felt like I was watching it on TV

    Surprise

Christy Moore (Acoustic) - dragged along by a friend but absolutely loved it
