Rock Werchter announced her the morning after her soldout show in Brussels (8k people), guess they wanted to surf on the vibe. Or maybe she announced herself during the show. If she's not on the Main Stage, I can't see her anywhere else than headlining the Barn.

They announced her in the evening of her show.

Can't see her playing the Barn. We have Chris, he will headline the Barn. Rosalia sub on main. Would make most sense.

Tells a lot about the state of this edition (and next year’s festival summer to be fair) when Editors gets a separate announcement in 2022.

Did not like them at Hear Hear but at least it’s been a while, and they should be in the Barn (though one could see that as a waste of a spot...).

Editors is imo a waste of any high spot, but they would be a total waste on that beautiful Barn headline spot. For sure if that would need to serve as the alternative for RHCP.

Just put them in front of two co-headliners. Would make sense. Or even lower as they could not even sell-out Vorst anymore.

    Very bad line up tbh

Skrillex will attract a bigger crowd than Fred again maybe? Also, he could play opposite to someone big such as Kendrick.
ideal run from the crowd-management point of view would be

Depeche mode - Kendrick - skrillex

baby keem - Fred again - four tet

But it’s not even enough as last year taught us. They will throw in swans or moldy peaches or some other popular act that I can’t recall from the poster (maybe bleachers?) to disperse people even more

I really don't believe that Skrillex will attract a bigger crowd than Fred Again... Skrillex was maybe hot 10 years ago, but Fred Again is really the biggest dance name out there rn. Depeche Mode - Kendrick - Fred Again on the Main would really make most sense.

    I don't know anymore...

She will be in Europe from August, 15 to at least September, 1. It makes me wonder if late June / early July is still possible then...

Two weeks in August, two weeks in July covering all the biggest festivals in each period.

August for NL, Hungary, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Ireland, Germany ...

July for Spain, Portugal, Poland, Denmark, Belgium ...

    Would make sense imi.

This is great but I am confident that:

    - the run on the Friday main stage will be rather different. Skrillex will be closing after Kendrick, while it makes sense that four tet and Fred again will take top slots at cupra. Moldy preachers will headline primavera—>binance stage, together with swans maybe?
    - turnstile would make sense as binance top slot of the Thursday, hopefully clashing with Halsey. On the other hand, if Hudson mohawke is not closing cupra we need to riot.

Fred Again at Cupra is recipe for disaster and dangerous situations. Main Stage closer is imo the most logic position.

If the case, it'll probably be someone playing Coachella and they'll have to make the grand 1st announcement which happens early January.

If that's the case it may be either Frank Ocean or Rhianna.

Doesn't need to be linked to Coachella at all. In 2018 AM were announced for RW in January, The Killers in February. For 2020, the Strokes also in January ... all had nothing to do with Coachella.

Besides, Frank Ocean will never headline RW. Too much of a risk. DDon'tbelieve in Rihanna after the Pukkelpop disaster and bad ticket sales for Werchter Boutique.

My best guess (and hope?) at the moment is GnR. If they put a big pop name on Friday following Stromae on Thursday the top-tier of the lineup will be less diverse and they risk to lose a big part of their regulars.

So, two rock oriented days + two pop oriented days would be less diverse than 3 rock oriented days + 1 pop oriented? That is an interesting take.

Besides, GnR is really too outdated and shite live to headline RW.

What’s the point about The Strokes?

They never played RW due to covid. So you can’t compare. (Or am I wro g here?)

Good booking that year, because they didn’t play for years in Belgium, and never at RW! Would have been a shitshow, that’s right!

They didnt sell tickets. That's the point.

So booking Blur is less of a risk for festivals with a smaller budget?

Blur is exactly the kind of special name this lineup is missing. The headliners announced thus far are very been there done that and are hardly inspiring.

Less of a risk for festivals who have a smaller capacity (DTRH) or are known to have a varied topline (e.g. Roskilde - Opener).

Don't forget that the other headliners are also no huge ticketsellers yet. Putting Blur as friday head and you will have not a single day with a stadium sized (well, Stromae is but he plays way too much before to be considered as such for RW23) headliner ... and Werchter usually needs two of them a year to sell out.

You are very very young right? 😬

I dont consider myself as very young tbh 😅. I do consider myself as big fan of Blur though.

I just want to be realistic here. We also all thought Strokes would be a massive headliner for Werchter. Well, they were not.

Blur doesnt have much of a legacy in Belgium (e.g. they have no songs in any of the end year lists on any radiostation). The only really known song here is song 2.

The interesting thing is that Festival Beauregard stated (then deleted) that Blur have "only two festival shows in France".
Assuming that another one is either Garorock or Main Square and both will be held on the same dates (first weekend of July), their RW show is 95% nailed on.

They might be available. However, I do think that the most important question is whether Blur is big enough in Belgium to headline. My gut feeling says no.

It's anyhow a risky booking for Werchter. And we all know Werchter doesnt like to take risks (and the last risk they took with the strokes failed miserably). I think there are other festivals that weekend for who booking Blur is less of a risk (Roskilde, DTRH, Garorock and Opener).

  12. Also not at all happy with AM closing the festival. At both RW18 and PKP22, they were just not the right festival closers. With Muse and AM that's already two less interesting headliners for me. Hoping the friday headliner will be more interesting for me.

Apparently Friday will be Swift-day. Keeping my fingers crossed that she might save Werchter for me then.

Also hoping for Blur to pop up somewhere but don't think that Werchter will take such a risk again after the The Strokes failure. And also don't see Damon accepting less than a headline spot.

It would be great to have Arctic Monkeys co-headline the Saturday with Muse so we have 2 spots left for headliners...

Thursday: Charlotte De Witte + Stromae + Oscar And The Wolf.
Friday: Editors + Queens Of The Stone Age + Bring Me The Horizon.
Saturday: Muse + Arctic Monkeys + The 1975.
Sunday: Sytem Of A Down + Volbeat + Placebo.

Yeah. Don't have a good feeling for a huge RW line-up in my opinion in 2023...

Editors as closing act in 2023 at Werchter? This band is (finally) done with taking headline spots on major Belgian festivals. They cannot even sell out Vorst anymore! I am also almost 100% sure AM and Muse will each headline their own day next year.

If we are looking for a major Belgian artist joining Stromae on Thursday, I would prefer Angèle. You can make some very nice combo's, e.g. Stromae - Kendrick Lamar/Dua Lipa - Angèle.

From the Lollapalooza line-ups, I expect Rosalìa to take a high spot as she sold out Vorst very quickly. I also hope we get a second day with a headliner for a younger audience (swift or Eilish e.g.).

Blink 182 reunion UK/EU tour supposedly announced tomorrow, very coincidental timing for RW to change their website.

Haha, imagine Blink playing RW in 2023 after their horrible show in 2017. 😅

In any case, Blink is not a headliner, so RW will never start with announcing them. Think this is more interesting for the South American Lollapalooza's which will announce their line-up on Tuesday.

With 2 new albums in '22, Jack White is also a strong candidate for a sub spot. Last time he played RW was in 2018 (and was a great warm up for Pearl Jam).

His show in belgium this year sold very bad. If he comes, he would need to be happy with at least one spot lower than before imo. Or maybe as a Barn head?
