At this point I'm hoping the most for FKA Twigs, Vampire Weekend and Tyler, The Creator.

I think we should start being realistic. Tyler won't be there, for sure. He can only play on Thursday and I don't think there is any spot left for him there. There is no indication that Vampire Weekend will be in Europe during Werchter. Moreover, they have a PKP-shaped hole in their American tour. FKA Twigs already announced some shows in Europe in august. She could also headline the Marquee at PKP.

Last year, the first packages included almost all subs and barn-headliners, so I wouldn't be too surprised if Capaldi is a Barn-head or sub, Dermot Kennedy also a Barn-head. Meute could headline Klubc like Snarky Puppy last year. Beck off course seems to be the Barn-head for Thursday.

Exactly. People used to Belgian festival line-ups throughout the years are spoiled as fuck.

SOAD and Volbeat will prove to be a solid pair of headliners (with a sub for the both of 'em probably announced soon). No need for a closing headliner after SOAD there. And it's definitely time to start forgetting about RHCP and Foo Fighters. And a big sub on the PJ day (like Tame Impala or something).

Friday is supposed to get another sub or headliner though, which is proving to be very hard to find. Bunch of things ruled out already. No Lana anymore, either.

Always remember many options do fall through every year. The ideal line-up is what they start from every year. Sometimes option D is what they have to settle for due to all kinds of circumstances.

No Lana or Tame Impala is dissapointing. I hope that Lana will at least play one show in Belgium with her last album.

So, we'll probably end up with some sort of plan b like KOL or Editors on that Friday.

SOAD as festival's closing feels very weird.

Do you then also feel the same about it with Pearl Jam? FNM? SOAD? Pixies?

But these bands have a certain legacy? The bands I'm talking about are bands with one or maybe two hits 10 (or 20) years ago. They were probably fun to see back in the day, but they shouldn't be booked anymore by a major festival. And be honest, on which major festival in Europe are Keane and Sum 41 still on the bill? Pinkpop and certainly some German rock festivals will have Sum 41.

I just feel that Werchter as one of the most prominent majors in the festival world is getting behind its competitors (and certainly the lack of female acts shows this for me). But I have the impression that I'm quite alone with this opinion, so I'll just accept these bands and if there are too many then there is always DTRH or Roskilde.

But who says they take high-slots? Let's just wait and see.

Lumineers will get a sub in the barn.
Keane will sub or headline the barn.
Capaldi will play the Barn around 20h or main around 18-20.
Rag n Bone will play during the day at main stage.
Dermot Kennedy will play around 19-20 in the Barn.
Sum 41 gets an afternoon slot at main stage.
Volbeat is sub for SOAD - (something to be announced)

I don't think you should be too afraid of them taking up too high slots of possible headliners. I believe Rock Werchter plays in a higher league than giving those bands high slots.
Ofcourse just my take on it.

Oh, you don't think these are high slots? Keane as a sub or barn head is just ridiculous. They should have left them in 2012. Just as Sum 41.

As I said, I understand they are popular and will take the higher slots. But for me, it's just sad to see. Moreover, all the names mentioned played in 17, 18 or even 19!

  5. I guess this is the worst they could do for me.

Black Pumas and Meute, that's it for me. Paak is also nice, but he was there in 2018.

Volbeat, Lumineers, Capaldi, Dermot Kennedy, Keane, Sum 41, Rag 'n' Bone Man are such a waste of the high slots (in my opinion off course). I really don't understand why some of these are still booked bij Werchter. I've given up completely on that Sunday MainStage.

And really embarrassing that there is no female act on the line-up for the moment with 1/4 of the bands booked.

What do people think we are still due, I'm hoping a sub for pearl jam (have a bad feeling pixies will be) another headliner size for Friday with strokes and a band.to close the festival. I like soad but can't imagine they will close the festival. Still hoping for tame impala, vampire weekend, foals, glass animals and wouldn't say no to kings of Leon

Glass Animals canceled their last performance in 2017 at Werchter, so they will definitely be back I think.

I think that all your other suggestions are certainly possible. Tame Impala could be a perfect fit with The Strokes.

Of course we're all waiting for the Strokes, but Ellie Goulding has just been ruled out (Boutique). I think they need a female headliner or big name, or they might get backlash (I think so not sure). So who's still in for this spot ? London Grammar, Lana ? Any other ideas ?

The XX? If they tour off course ...

Certainly looking at other majors in Europe, it would be a shame if they didn't have a female headliner (they don't even have a female name for the moment!)

Nothing this morning but a couple of people asked about announcements on their latest Tweet, their response was "Working on it!".

I think it's quite obvious now that they will announce The Strokes this afternoon // evening. The only question left is when they will play. Will they close down the festival on Sunday or will they play on Friday? The first option seems the most likely one to me.

Gemany is kinda obsessed with Volbeat but they did sell out Sportspaleis in Antwerp, didn't they?

Two potential Graspop headliners + a very strong sub (or even third head like on Saturday) as MCR seems fair to me.

The only available band that I can think of which could be subbed by Volbeat would be Foo Fighters but this seems way too big.

They didn't. Balcony was closed. SOAD is surely bigger than Volbeat.

I don't think that Volbeat has enough songs that are known with the regular Werchter crowd to be a good closing act, certainly not as the festival's closing act.

Volbeat in front of Foo Fighters is certainly possible, but subbing PJ is also a possibility. And I hope they just don't play and headline Rock Zottegem instead.

Must be in with a very good chance of being at RW, surely?

I don't think so. They are not popular enough anymore to play Main Stage. They played Lokerse Feesten last year when they released a new album, so really don't think they will play Werchter this year then.

I expect BICEP and Flume to be two of the dance names this year.

Has anyone else got a worrying feeling now that we've had a problem/dropout and have had to had sort stuff last minute

The Strokes announced for Primavera. I hope they just had to wait for them?

And there are still so many open headline spots on other festivals close to Werchter (2 at Mad Cool, quiet some more at Roskilde, Open'er also need some headliner, DTRH misses one also ...), so, I wouldn't worry too much, yet!

  12. 33 minutes ago, Padjeq said:

All names have been dropped at 4pm Werchter time for this year's festival, apart from the initial Pearl Jam announcement, which was earlier but in line with Pearl Jam's own announcements. I'm hopeful, but every day I wake up and say 'today is the day'.

The best source possible (Jazebel) has said there won't be any new names this week, so you should have some patience till next week.

Based on festival bookings around Werchter, I expect Haim and Charli XCX.

I think Charli XCX is also very likely to play Boutique with Taylor Swift to be honest.

I guess that for the bigger names, Volbeat is - unfortunately - the most obvious one. I expect them either before PJ or SOAD.

Then you have RHCP, FF and KOL who already confirmed some dates in Europe for 2020 (RHCP and FF not that close to Werchter though), but as Foo Fighters are teasing with #FF25, I expect a few more dates to be added. Then you also have The XX, The Weeknd, The Strokes and Tame Impala, who confirmed a new album, but don't have dates yet in mainland Europe. (I've noticed that Perfume Genius is the special guest on TI's tour in the US and he plays Bilbao BBK, so hopefully Tame Impala also comes to Europe then)

With the Cruilla confirmation for Friday, Placebo should only be an option for RW on Sunday.

Les Ardentes has become a pure Rap/RnB Festival, DJ Snake, Meek Mill and Kali Uchis can be ruled ut by the way.

Is there a date for Rock Zottegem yet to come? Their website is still showing the 2019 line up.

Placebo played Les Ardentes only very recently in 2017 (when DJ Snake and others were also on the line-up), so the amount Rap/RnB is really not an issue. Rock Zottegem will be second week-end of July, but they could literally play every smaller festival in Belgium (Dour, Lokerse, Suikerrock also to name a few). I just don't think (and hope) they are the kind of band RW is looking for, certainly not on a high position.

They could theoretically also play on Thursday. But I hope for something else, something better (and more refreshing) to join PJ.

Placebo doing BBK and Mad Cool just after Werchter....they gotta be there.

Mad Cool having 2 missing headliners, none of which mentioned in today's update. Werchter having at least one missing. There has to be a band or 2 who are being kept back until they announce their own 2020 plans. MCR for Mad Cool seems a definite.

There are so many options for Placebo in Belgium. Last festivals they played were Les Ardentes and Rock Zottegem (the place to be for outdated rock bands in Belgium).

I read that Red Hot Chili Peppers are only going to play the already announced festival shows to focus more on a new album with John Frusciante. If this is the case we can sadly rule them out......

Ken said some weeks ago RHCP were a valid option for Rock Werchter but he didn't know about the current state. In the first week of December we didn't get a a fifth headliner but Pixies and co. instead. I guess someone cancelled who was planned to be announced during that week.

He was talking about American shows, I think. I still think there will be a second leg added to their European festival tour, either during Werchter (which I hope not) or somewhere in August during Sziget.

This looks great! Same weekend as RW and just in the Netherlands. How about Tyler, The Creator on the Saturday in the Barn??

He is playing Longitude on saturday and DTRH on sunday apparently. I'm starting to fear that he won't play.
