Really hoping for GM debuts from Alvvays and Weyes Blood this year. Then a handful of acts on the experimental side (e.g. Laurie Anderson, Mabe Fratti and Marina Herlop) and some non-anglophone artists. Then if they can somehow get Simz, Pavement and Sigur Ros as headliners, they can have all the repeat bookings they’d like!

Only really excited about the prospect of Sonic Boom/Panda bear. Other names have been on the circuit enough the past couple of years.
Totally agree

Black Midi, Panda Bear/Sonic Boom and Porridge Radio (amongst others) added to Canela Party.

They've only done one album, give them a chance!
Yeah not hating on them at all! Very promising band!

I saw them support Beach House but can't really remember them.
Yeah was gunna say they’re very similar to Beach House, not as good though.

I thought I was fairly up to date with newer bands but I can't recognise a good chunk of that line up!
Me too! The ones I do know aren’t great though, apart from White Flowers who I like.

Even though we won't count the other 45 can we have @lessthanwill1full 50 and details of how you manage to score etc purely because I am so impressed by the idea that you have this just there and ready.
I won't be submitting mine for a couple of weeks yet Little Simz has an album out on Monday for a start!!
Haha I’m waiting for Simz as well! I reckon it will slot in somewhere in my AOTY list quite high. Got a top 100 songs list ready to go as well!

Is John Cale, considering he's touring and got a new album, an unrealistic headliner?
I think he would be a good shout for a prominent slot but I’m not sure he’d headline. He did EOTR a few years back and I think he was second down on the second stage, so headlining seems like quite a big jump. He last played GM and long time ago so quite difficult to place him.

First few names announced for Haldern Pop Festival in early August in Germany. Not many exciting names unfortunately, apart from clipping.
Katy J Pearson, Comet is Coming, Golden Dregs and Sorry amongst those announced.

Hikaru cracking the top 10 is great stuff
Absolutely love that song! I have it at number 10 on my own list.

Yes looking quite likely as they're also at Szget and Oya prior to GM.
No headliners jumping out yet apart from Jamie XX. Iggy Pop an outside bet perhaps.

Canela Party (23-26 Aug): Les Savy Fav, Crack Cloud, Nilufer Yanya, Tropical Fuck Storm, Shame, Osees.
Pstereo (18-19 Aug): Aurora, Protomartyr
Szget (10-15 Aug) : Jamie XX, Moderat, Amyl and the Sniffers, The Comet is Coming, Los Bitchos, Kelly Lee Owens, Mall Grab

Crack Cloud played in 2021, not sure they'd be back so quick. Would we say Osees are Far Out Headline size?
Yeah was thinking that about Crack Cloud but they do have a new album out since they last played so you never know.
Yeah I reckon Osees are at that level. Did 2 nights at electric Brixton this summer so a pretty big draw.

I'm sure Gilla Band will end up at this, having played EOTR and not GM yet.
Yeah I agree. Some decent Far Out type bands already: Gilla Band, Les Savy Fav, Crack Cloud, Osees and Protomartyr all about at the right time.

Future Islands supporting Noel G on the 26th in Manchester.
Ah! I’m not sure they’d be back after headlining back in 2017 though.
I forgot to add Off Festival to the list above. Lots of exciting names on that line up.

Are you going to post your list? I'm interested to see it.
Just been going through some of the stuff on the Quietus list that I haven't heard. Really like the Emeka Ogboh album. Good to see Shovel Dance Collective included despite the album only being released on the same day as the list.
Maybe if there’s a thread created for everyone’s lists! Still got a few weeks I reckon to tinker with it!

Time for the yearly edition of ‘how many bands/albums have you even heard of, never mind listened to’ from the Quietus’ list:

I kind of gave up on that Jockstrap album after it didn’t immediately click with me but seeing it rank so highly in so many of these lists has made me think I need to go back and give it another few goes.
Always the best list imo as it is intended in part to showcase albums that most other publications don’t covers. You could argue that those albums are not covered by others because they are sh*t but I think it would be more correct to say it’s because Quietus go above and beyond to find/listen to things from unconventional sources! Have listened to 30 albums in their list. Loved the Jockstrap, caroline and Richard Dawson albums in particular (they’re 14, 2 and 24 on my list respectively).
Also very interesting to me that BCNR are not on the list given that John Doran (Quietus editor) proclaimed them the best band on the planet not too long ago.
EDIT: Ah seen John on Twitter said he had AFUT as No. 21 but no other writers voted for it so it didn’t make the list.

Will keep a list of possibilities based on other August festivals around U.K./Europe. Please add to this as you see fit!
Canela Party: Les Savy Fav, Crack Cloud, Nilufer Yanya, Tropical Fuck Storm, Shame, Osees.
Pstereo: Aurora, Protomartyr
Szget: Jamie XX, Moderat, Amyl and the Sniffers, The Comet is Coming, Los Bitchos, Kelly Lee Owens, Mall Grab
We Out Here: could in theory see anyone on the line up at GM
All Together Now: Jamie XX, Iggy Pop, Lankum, Kelly Lee Owens, Daniel Avery
Oya: Amyl and The Sniffers

We need a Paredes De Coura announcement. Believe they’ve shared a headliner (plus others) with GM basically every year.

Devo also just announced for Flow Festival. Just noticed that GM follow Devo on Twitter (not sure if that is new). FO headliner nailed on??
Edit: Flow also have Suede, FKA Twigs, Polachek and Jockstrap.
