I’m sorry and I’m sure avenged sevenfold are a good band but headlining download festival ehh I just don’t get it. I mean I’ve seen them live before and they were crap

    They've already done it twice.

Are Queens of the Stone headliner ready for DL or Second stage headliner/main stage sub?

    MY PREDICTION:

Foo Fighters / MUSE / Avenged Sevenfold (MAINSTAGE)

Judas Priest / Royal Blood / The Prodigy (SECOND)

I say just take the chance. All they need to do is shove a new headliner alongside an established pair and then decide if they're good enough for another shot. They already (co?) headlined R&L so they're already late to the party on them again.

QOTSA / A7X / Maiden or QOTSA / MCR / RATM or to a lesser extent QOTSA / SOAD / Aerosmith or some bollocks like that would work fine.

I’ll carry on from my controversial comments and suggest the followIng as lineup for 2024:

Friday Main stage :Enter Shikari, Pendulum, The Prodigy

Second stage: Motionless in white , Memphis May fire , Ice nine Kills

Saturday Main stage : My Chemical Romance,Babymetal, Of Mice and Men

Second stage: Parkway Drive , Spiritbox, Lorna Shore

Sunday Main stage: Iron Maiden, Bullet for my Valentine , Limp Bizkit

Second stage : Sum 41, All time low,Bowling for Soup

Prodigy are surely bigger than Shikari?

Parkway aren't going to come back and play second again, they'll want the top spot.

Sum 41 are splitting up and ATL sold out Wembley Arena in March, they aren't gonna be second on the second stage.

  4. If BFMV released another actually good album and attached it to an album anniversary show they might get away with it? 2025 would Time nicely to give them a 20 year show and then forget the exist or make them a subsequently "strong" second stage headliner.

Examples? I’m struggling to think of another rising rock/metal act making even slightly similar waves to BMTH at the moment, apart from those mentioned that already played the festival this year.

Although of course there’s always the option of getting a new old act in who has yet to headline - plenty of them about, as much as Download manages to constantly miss them for whatever reason (maybe they just don’t want to play a strictly ‘metal’ festival? Not sure).

New Old is what I meant really, you've got Foos, Green Day, QOTSA, Fall Out Boy and Paramore (Copping keeps mentioning them) and older ones like Bon Jovi and Van Halen (both mentioned by him recently)  but that's six you could alternate with promoting Parkway, Ghost, Architects, FFDP and whoever else grows in that time (Sabaton? Sleep Token if they keep the hype? I'd even give it to Machine Head before BFMV). Korn and Alter Bridge have both been overlooked plenty and could be a "weak" headliner one year.

I’m going to post a controversial comment …
There needs to be new headliners. Repeating AC/DC , Iron Maiden etc fine but they’ve all played so many headline slots and they aren’t getting any younger. I have the greatest respect for all these bands but what about. ..
Enter Shikari ? bullet for my valentine? Parkway drive ? They are all ready to take this step up and need to have the chance . There said my bit…argue amongst yourselves

    1. I personally don't think this is a controversial take, I've had it as a complaint against Download for years.

    2. That said, for me, Shikari and Bullet shouldn't be on that list, and if you want to argue they should be, it shouldn't be before Ghost or Architects.

  7. I could entirely see Yungblud headline with Avril as a sub of they want to go that direction. Or maybe MGK top with those two below. Could work as the "other" day on the site too I guess to give them all longer sets.

My top want for 2024 is Simple Plan because they're probably the one pop punk band I keep missing. 20th anniversary of Still Not Getting Any as well, seems a perfect time to get them in. Give them the same slot Yellowcard had.

  8. Don't know if its just because I haven't been to Hatfield before but I honestly had minimal issues all day Bar phone signal. There was a longer queue for food around 6pm but that was bound to happen and we still got served pretty quickly. We didn't drive there and had the sense to leave part way through Offspring so dodged Amy issues on the trains, so the travel was easy too.

Kerrang Tent, as mentioned, seemed rammed most of the time but you could get in easily on the opposite side to the one playing. We turned up stress free for Menzingers and got to the barrier with no hassle for Creeper.

Only bands I watched on the two big outdoor tents were Trash Boat and Offspring and both sounded fine to me, although the weird Noodles medley seemed totally pointless in Offsprings set. Key Club stage Crowd seemed way bigger, was absolutely rammed when we went over for Scene Queen.
