Nah, they were one of the good ones that clearly were doing something different, a little more interesting

BBC and Macabees were clearly, ultimately the stand out performers of that era/ subgenre.

Prob forgot a couple more who weren’t sh*t, the top 4 would mos def include those two

Maybe it was the sub genre that didn’t do it for me, I never really got Macabees either now that I think about it

Why do people keep predicting Bombay Bicycle Club as a sub? That’s not going to happen.

Bombay Bicycle Club were one of the worse bands in the indie landfill days so surely have no standing now, they’re playing an academy tour. They’re downright dreadful!

Didn’t go in 2023 but it was pretty much half full at best, sometimes pitifully attended the times I ventured past it in 21/22

1Xtra has been poorly attended but it has a good amount of acts that get bumped up to the main stages. R&L will always point to the likes of Stormzy that got bumped up, plus the likes of Jack Harlow, Headie One, D-Block Europe, Tion Wayne, AJ Tracey, even Lizzo since 2018

Calling Coldplay, Dua and Madonna weak is the most ridiculous sh*t I've ever read on these forums. And A7X, FOB, and QOTSA are also strong - all arena touring bands. I'd love for anyone to explain how any of those bands are poor bookings.

Someone needs to rattle people while Chad is away 😂🎣

  5. More often than not you get two global superstars at Glasto. It’s by no means the weakest trio they’ve had (2014’s Arcade Fire, Metallica and Kasabian probably takes it) but it’s not exactly strong.

I refuse to count Coldplay as a second superstar, they’re musical equivalent of a chicken korma.

Madonna, Coldplay and Dua Lipa is hardly a weak trio.

Depends how you view it, they’ll all appeal to someone but barring Madonna they’re far from the global ‘once in blue moon’ type headliners. Like Elton, GnR and Paul McCartney in recent years I can’t imagine Madonna’s vocals are still up to the job

Thoughts on the download leak? Few names here that have been mentioned for R+L previously

This is all kinds of weak. Just goes to show that R&L isn’t the only festival going down the pan, if it’s real of course

You’ve practically got a day of it if you fancy going to “15 mins away from Stockport”

Funnily enough I’ve been in Stockport for work today. If they want to move the gig a lot more then 15 minutes away then they might shift more tickets…

I think most of us are thankful that that dream is dead!

They’re vanilla but good fun. The only positive is it probably rules Inhaler out too

I nearly suggested this the other day. For an indie band that would sell Reading tickets, you're about on the money with them age wise of the festival too. If they were planning any of their own dates earlier in the year they would have been released by now surely?, I can see Glastonbury booking them again as they were clearly a liked option.

If they do their own headline gigs in H1 2024 it’ll be Victoria Warehouse, Brum O2 Academy, Ally Pally size gigs that’ll sell out instantly, a bit like Kasabian did when they restarted without Tom. Something to build some hype again. I’d expect them to headliner Neighbourhood Weekender.

If they do play R&L I could see Catfish subbing a stage, big crowd pleaser but they won’t be the same as they were. Could open it up to a dark fruits day with  bands like Courteeners, Blossoms etc also appearing.

Wolf Alice’s last U.K. show was Leeds 2022.

There’s not been a peep from their socials since December 2022.

It’s no big surprise they’ve not got any bigger…

A decent and well hyped album with some big songs next year could very easily push them there, given the boxes they tick.

That said, there are no signs it’s forthcoming…

I never bought the whole ‘Wolf Alice will be headliners one day’ thing from the NME, R1 etc. It was cool they had a front woman in 2015 but their USP isn’t unique any more. Genuine question, is there a general consensus on what their biggest song is?

  12. I don’t think it’s that it’s difficult to write a good rock or pop song, for me it’s more that some acts are favoured by the mainstream broadcasters and some aren’t. Take someone like Mimi Webb; anyone who watched her at R&L this year will know she’s bang average at best but she’s one of these who’ll get airtime on Capital/R1 whatever garbage she releases.

Back in the days of landfill indie when TDCC and The Wombats we’re getting airtime other bands like Courteeners would base their whole thing on being rejected by mainstream broadcasters/publications. Now 99% of indie/rock bands don’t get the coverage unless they’re media darlings called Sam Fender or Wet Leg.
