eh? you're just doing the same if something doesn't fit your world view. The article is from an academic who specialises in that area. No where does it condone Israeli action or condone/condemn anything, it is from her knowledge of Houthis..

I mean, Hamas attacked Israel in a well planned operation. They took hostages and carried out all sorts of atrocities. That wasn't just out of desperation, they wanted a response..

I didnt click so exsqueeze me for saying journo. Academic then - writing for a right wing foundation (a swedish one no less).

Always follow the money. The first one is Claire Coutinho but i chopped her name off.

There were some tory lords too.

  2. I am a war hawk professional journalist bought and paid for by the liberal establishment. Sources? Nah, I’ll just do a bit of conspiracy theory and say reportedly and everyone will believe me.

And then when some leftist twitter pleb provides actual sources,I’ll tell you that they are conspiracy theorists and antisemites and you will all believe me again.

So...this red sea thing could push prices up, so inflation up, interest rates up...yay!

LNG stockpiles v high in Europe tho because of mild winter so far. Will be some effects on import export goods from/to the East but probably low impact on aggregate supply, all things being equal. Expect the rate of inflation to continue to fall medium term.

To the surprise of no one. Corbyn is supporting the Houthi terrorists in this action. Not surprised when they have the same common interests as Hamas.

    Haha obsessed.

Must be so weird to have an old politically sidelined pacifist living rent free inside your massive empty head.

You suggested that people shouldn't go along with the crowd so why did you - your types have caused another five years of Tories

Ah yes, you’re right! Grrrrr naughty us for voting Labour in order to get the tories in! We shall all get spanked bottoms and sent to bed with no supper!!

    Like backing Corbyn.

As you did with Corbyn. No thinking done .

    Here comes the cavalry!

I dont know what your politics are. But incoherent rage tends to indicate something towards the right.

Why don’t you wipe the spit off your screen and chill out for once instead.

this could go on for some time 🙂 meanwhile emergency govt briefing tonite with the speaker , FFS cant we just stay out of conflicts

A little concerned that Sunak and Biden could both probably benefit from a good war in an election year where they’re struggling in the polls.

  8. This quote about insanity being doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

I dont want to be 30 years from now, in my 60s, at the end of another 13 year Tory shitshow begrudgingly voting for another ham faced Blair tribute act so that I can get my free bus pass a year earlier or whatever the f**k. Its just not good enough. If you want things to change, you can’t passively accept whatever old shite they serve you up

  9. I think if we did one of those questionnaires, everybody in this thread would fall to the left of the Labour party anyway.

Most of the quarrel comes down to the fact that the electoral system means the choice is usually between quite sh*t and very sh*t. And then there are some who believe the best strategy is to settle for quite sh*t, and some who believe that by endlessly settling you tacitly condone the choice and it just goes on and on in perpetuity getting either rapidly worse, or less rapidly worse. Unless we get a hung parliament and we get PR. So vote green ✌️

you know, I'm not sure, but I think I came across you on twatter some time ago. UK bloke living in Sweden having constant fights with people about Corbyn/Starmer/Israel and also posting arty pics of train stations. That you?

Dont think so. I have also come across another british leftist based on Stockholm on twitter though - he had the name rödlök for a while which means Red Onion in swedish.

I havent seen him on there for a while. I can have unfollowed him. It may surprise you to know that I find a lot of hardline Corbynistas a bit tedious tbh.

On twitter i am @alan_mc_dente if you’re curious.

I think you’ll be underwhelmed. I am an occasional retweeter but mainly a lurker. Its been a while since i was in a slagging match there.

That again? You love all that stuff don't you. Anyway not a fan of Mandy either, but not going to throw out dodgy accusations which seems to be your thing.

We’re all happy enough to tolerate the likes of Mandelson now though aren’t we?

Or other really sh*t people like David Evans or Neil Coyle. So long as they don’t believe in nationalising water or that Israel should stop bombing Palestine then they’re sound.

    Far right Tory government out.

    Centre left Labour government in.

The country will be infinitely better off just like last time round.

f**k me. Is that how far the overton window has shifted? That anybody can keep a straight face and describe Starmer’s Labour as centre left.

Because the Tories were already using it as something to attack them on and they're sh*t scared.

Yeah.. so now that its 20bn or whatever, the tories are gonna lay off or what?

The folk that are gonna be raging about 28bn are also gonna be raging about 20bn spent on green stuff.

The folk that are gonna be buzzing about 28bn are gonna now mostly be raging about 20bn. Even though nobody has any idea about what either of those figures can actually buy.

Tbh i dont really get why politics is so often done like that. Salience is number 1 in any marketing message. 20bill here, 10bill there. Its utterly meaningless. Is it because they dont have any real ideas beyond spunking more dough on something than the other guys (or less if they want to appear to be more fiscally prudent with their spunk).

  14. I dont really understand why Labour moved to kill the 28bn figure though.

People pay such little attention to the blither comes out of Starmer’s mouth that nobody would have remembered that they were going to spend 28bn.

Then its not like anybody actually knows what that can buy anyway and nobody is going to figure out whether the 28bn is fully costed or not. Which actually doesnt matter because the tories will still say its uncosted whatever figure they put it at.

    So whats the point?

I have no idea on percentages.  I also wouldn't say I am pissed off.  Its just us lots chewing the fat on discussion forum that has zero impact on anything.

I don't think you have to accept 4% fraud claiming to ensure the 96% get what they need.  I suspect its much higher than 4% mind.

    Agree with this a bit.

The % or amounts involved in both benefit fraud and tax dodging are not the issue.

The sense of unfairness and the visibility of that unfairness - whether tax dodging (alleged) nonce Branson spaffing a load of your dough on spaceships or whether its the stereotypical benefits villain from some daily mail piece you read about.

The fact that these examples exist and are so visible damages social contract between citizen and government and reduces trust in and ’buy in’ to the system. People pay tax because they have to, if they have to, rather than seeing it as being them buying into all the good big sh*t that makes a society worth living in. And then everybody gets on the make. Why should I not take the piss if everybody else is, kinda thing.

Unfortunately its much easier for governments to crack down on benefit fraud as the benefit recipients lobby is less persuasive than the tax dodgers lobby. And even worse, because our politicians aren’t that bright their ideas for cracking down on benefit fraud often tend to also clobber more than a few poor souls who are legitimately in need of a helping hand from the state.

Anyway didnt read all of this coffee saga but it seems to me that the critical difference is Skip being given something by a business owner who presumably would simply not have offered Skip the free coffee had he had to increase prices on his coffee.

So then the business owner has effectively taken it out of his own pocket. Again, if he wasnt able or willing to afford it, he simply would not have done so.

Its a poor analogy for tax or benefit fraud.

In fact, I would probably guess that the van owner hasnt declared all the cash he has made selling coffees, and I guess that Skip pays tax. So in fact you could almost argue that Skip is just claiming what is rightfully his.

This poor little boy starved to death.

Is that what defeating Hamas looks like?

I think its what evil looks like.

  17. A couple of days ago I read of a palestinian baby with cerebral palsy. Starved to death because he needed special food that he wasn’t able to get, couldnt tolerate other food.

Yesterday I read of unarmed, shirtless hostages being shot by the IDF.

Today I read of another airstrike against a refugee camp and of a lib dem MPs family trapped in a catholic church, with anyone leaving being shot by snipers.

Is it okay to criticise Israel yet?
