many thanks. the farthest left advice is appreciated!
Our daughter advised that using a plastic sledge (she did this at Leeds apparently) is not a bad idea provided there wasn't gravel paths

I wouldn't use a sledge but maybe others disagree??

Go as far left as you feel comfortable with, you will be fine! To the right just has an 8-10ft haze above it of weed, jizz and Chlamydia, always chocca though so appeals to some!

Sounds good, thanks.  I'll look forward to sharing some of that guaranteed sunshine with you!

Is the beer and curry something that you've brought with you, or are there food and drink establishments available before the arena opens?

we always bring a handsome supply of tent beers and cans of aldi gin&tonics for the lady wife.

+ we make a curry the night before and reheat in the morning in one of those decent retain the heat pots which we also wrap in tea towels, same with some rice. been doing the same thing for 5+ years now.

Saying that both the village green (which is outside arena in main camping) food places are open before the arena (toasties, baguettes, pizza & burgers unless someone can correct me???) There used to be a big canopy bar in the village green too but not sure if it was there last year?

  3. Think it was a tad earlier last year, maybe around 3ish?

We do exactly what you are intending every year, get landed pitched and then sit in the guaranteed sunshine with a few beers and a curry, getting to know the neighbours etc

...the calm before the storm (sometimes quite literally!!!)

    Hello

As first timers (at the age of 59) at a Festival, (but seasoned outdoors types), I have some practical questions/advice requests.

    - Best time to arrive Friday (we are only over the other end of the A66 so normally takes 60-80 mins to there).. planning on being there for about 10:30am

    - Quietest (likely) Camp ground...?

    -  Do I need to borrow / buy  a Sack trolley or barrow to transport the tent / food / in one go etc?

    - or are multiple trips practical / (ie is the car park miles away) - I assume that's permitted to go back to your car ?

    - I have Coeliac disease so need to eat Gluten free (basically I can't eat bread and a few other staples) -  what's the food like there ?

    - any other practical advice is greatly welcomed.

    Friday arrival earlier the better

Easy rule for camping in the main areas, the further left you go as you look at from the main gate the quieter the camping area

Yes trolley a great idea but you can do multiple trips

Food is wide and varied, both the Indian and Seychelles food stand will also cook to order if you mention you coeliac

Are there less acts on the main stage this year than normally announced?

No I don't think so, with the exclusion of Thursday. Maybe 1or2 less but if Run Dmc only play an hour set then that is to factor in too

  6. Only thing we know is they are not playing Sunday and they do not have an * against their name on lineup page or poster so shouldn't be thursday.

there are 4 subs according to lineup page and none are listed as Thursday.

    • James are Friday so subbing for Catfish
    • Ocean Colour Scene are Sunday so subbing for Libertines

which would mean that Shed Seven and Bugzy Malone are subbing for Run DMC

    ???

    Quick question .

what are the showers like in emperors fields? my wife and daughter are coming with me this year and I’d like to be able to give them a heads up to what to expect

    thanks in advance?

They are not bad actually but the q's in the morning can be a bit long.

So you get siphoned off on that road with the entrance to your right?

And was about half an hour early Thursday afternoon last year, there was pretty much no traffic, just having to go slow through those villages and farms behind the festival.

yep thats where we split (proviso they don't change it!)

we hit the q around 11:30 and took about an hour so maybe we were rush hour!  was about 3 years ago where it took more than 4 hours and the q started not far after Shap village!

  9. the carpark for EF is right next to the camp field and although we go through the main gate entrance we get siphoned off about maybe 4/5's of the q. & i think you are being perhaps a little optimistic on the 30 min drive, depending on when you arrive can be more like an hour!

How's the arena security for getting a cheeky hip flask past? I'm more used to Leeds where they only just stop short of a strip search.

Optimum time for arriving on Thursday? I'm only in West Cumbria so can time my run fairly accurately

hip flask you might be ok, maybe more safely stored than normal!

We try to set off before 10:30 and are normally in for 12:30-1ish (it is a 65-70 minute journey any other weekend) although we had 1 year where we left around 10 and got in at 4 but hopefully we won't have any of that nonsense again!

seems to be busiest arrival time between 12-3 but if you are in and sorted, you open a bevvy and watch the carnage unfold around you!

  11. Hi all

With us now hitting June and my brain switching into summer fun mode a couple of q's if I may... (apologies if already covered but I not been as engaged this year as in prev's)

    1. Has anyone produced a leader-board for the annual 'Buy Thurlow a beer' lineup game?
    2. Was there an agreement on a day/time for an efest group meet up? (if not & some people aren't arriving until Friday then maybe noon Saturday? which bar dependent on lineup?)
    3. Has anyone keep keeping any attention to the secret party stuff and this password malarkey?
    4. Does anyone have any info on Thursday yet? Is it just Hacienda Classical playing?
    5. ...and finally... due to an issue with an international restraining order or something, I have not been able to facebook message Belinda, could someone do with on my behalf??? (don't mention my name, just say a mutual creepy friend so she doesn't guess it is me and I don't have to mess around with all that court shit again!)

    Thanks

Hi, I'm a first timer this year. Just wondered what the campsite shop was like? Does it sell alcohol? Ice?

    Thanks in advance

The camp shop is a bit of a rip off to be fair, doesn't sell alcohol or ice as far as I am aware. more bread, milk, ponchos etc

If you're after trying to keep booze cold I would suggest storing under your tent. We also buy an industrial sized slab of bacon for the weekend which we freeze and take in a cool bag. bacon sarnies on the go every morning + chuck a few cans into the bag each morning and you have chilled lunchtime ales!

    Thank you,
Quick update, Ticketline refunded the full amount back to my debit card yesterday, Thank You

Just got to get this infernal inconvenience sorted out and be fighting fit for next year

All the best for a quick recovery from the other half of the Lancaster branch of efest!

    see you in 2019!

    Rob

  14. Confirmation on KC web that Calling Out will have more space (embedded at the tail of the news about new campsites). Think this is great news albeit 3 years too late! Now just need conf that they're moving it to beyond where Jaegerhaas (RIP)/ Cinema tents and move the Glow (also bigger) further up the hill. Small changes but would seriously help with the noise clashes!

Same with me and castlefield bowl, along with shed seven!

Yep, for all the dissatisfaction with the headlines this year I do think the 3 subs, OCS, James & Shed Seven are great bookings

Cmon on guys it was posted at 9:33 am on April fools day !

The line up is poor in comparison to other years but I have had on good authority that a certain other festivals promoter is or is trying to make life difficult for Kendal! They basically victims of their own success!

Primal scream were never going to be added the only place in the line up they could of slotted in was Thursday headliner and that’s taken by hacienda and I tell you now if you go and watch with your party heads on you won’t be disappointed.

That's actually the headline night I am most looking forward to, we were going to go see it in Lancaster but then got announced for KC so saved me the best part of £200!
