I think they’ll be there. They were a bit wasted on the Park last time, far too sunny for them and it was dinner time so plenty of chatters around. 3rd/4th down JP would be ideal.

New song came out on Monday, if you like the other stuff then I reckon you’ll enjoy this too. A good development for them.

Just listened to the new single and I really like it. Will add them to all my predictions now and wish it into existence

Yeah ok good point. I was conflating been around longer / more established with has hype currently. I do think Bicep are a more respected act but maybe I'm just being a snob 🤷🏻‍♀️

Respected is the wrong way to look at it though.

The most mainstream acts with the widest appeal make the climb to headliner. Fred has a “poppier” direction to his music than Bicep. He also makes tunes that people can sing along to.

He makes advancements in areas where Bicep get held back.

The music industry isn’t fair, it isn’t really a meritocracy, and acts derivative of others can go further than the acts that inspired them.

Matt is protective of all new artists that start blowing up. He puts blinders on and think that people saying that he might not headline as a personal attack on the artist and the industry.

No idea how I can be protective over an act I don’t even like that much? I don’t need a vested interest in thinking an act will become a headliner and challenging others who disagree?

Unsure if there's a thread for them, but with the new single. Chance on Daughter playing? Not announced a tour yet but album out in April. High JP?

How did I completely miss this announcement?

Dude, you’ve been on here long enough to know everyone has their opinion. All I said was it’s not dance music in the way I love it. I didn’t say in anyway he shouldn’t be headlining.. At some point  on any various stage

You do seem very protective of Mr Again, linked in some way?

    Take a chill pill lol

Fuck sake 😂 I’m not protective of him or linked - I’m not even a fan of his. I just think it’s a very interesting debate - especially after the Stormzy booking was a massive surprise to most of us. I’m very interested to see where the next booking of that type is going to come from. Glastonbury jumping on a a major up and comer and growing the festival further (which they always do). I feel like Fred is the only candidate right now that fits that mould.

Like don’t take it personal dude but he ain’t no Chems, Prod, Fatboy, etc etc

This irks me. I’ve never said this. I’m merely taking a view on trends and where I see things going.

Some of y’all think the only acts that will go on to headline are those you like. You think that acts derivative of others can’t climb the ladder. When in reality, acts that make a career pulling some previous influences are way more likely to become headlining acts than the OG’s. Walking so they could run is a perfect way to phrase it.

I’ve literally just listened to his first album again as replying on here in case I missed it. There is nothing like this on it. So is he doing a DJ set of other peoples music or his reworked, or will he be playing his own stuff?

Like don’t take it personal dude but he ain’t no Chems, Prod, Fatboy, etc etc

Almost all of this is his own stuff

I mean conversely, when was the last time an act headlined Other and went on to headline the Pyramid? I’ll be honest I gave up looking after a decade, but in the process was reminded that Jake Bugg headlined it in 2014 FFS, so how much does it actually tell us?

It could have been Dua Lipa if 2020 went ahead.

It’s just a prediction that he will end up headlining. A lot of people need to chill out.

If he’s headlining the other already I think it’s a v good sign that the festival is joining in on the hype

Marea's pretty good like - but I dunno if it's an absolute monster well still be hearing years hence.

Can already tell that these songs will be nostalgic to his fans in 10 years time. I’d argue he’s writing and putting together modern classics.

It may just not be for you. I know it’s not for me. I know I’m not really the target audience.

I love the metric you use. ' my friends like him and they even played a song at the Christmas party! So they must be HUGE '

More of my students know about him than Frank Ocean. Guess he's bigger than him.

    Cool views!

The greatest metric ever used on efests this

I think it’s a great barometer for who is making waves in normie culture.

Lots of songs get played at Xmas parties. Guess Rag n Bone man is headlining too yeah?

Did you miss the word future?

  13. 3 minutes ago, Enkidu said:

No he is not. Plenty of "it guys" come and go, but not all become headliners. Just because he's had some popularity in the past year amongst certain groups, doesn't mean he's got the widespread appeal to headline. He doesn't pass the Mum Test, he hasn't even passed the Colleagues Test.

Other headline and R/L headline is probably the highest he'll go. Maybe APE/Field Day too.

His music played at my work Christmas party. He’s a future headliner.

  14. Ngl if he was a rock act this forum wouldn’t be so conservative about his headline chances.

If he was a rock act getting this level of attention we’d be in unanimous agreement that he was on the headline track.

Only one female act in the top 10 positions? Would be a nightmare but don't know what way there is around it. Get Lizzo to headline Other I suppose, though she's pretty much perfect for the Pyramid at this stage.

Can’t see a way where the top of this festival is anything but a massive cock fest at this point.

Whenever I’ve found myself really enjoying Fred, I’m always thinking ‘this sounds like Bicep’.

Why Fred Again becomes a headliner is the same thing for why Billie went all the way and Lana / Lorde didn’t.

Sometimes it’s the fourth or fifth person to come along and do something that goes all the way. So is life. There is no justice or fairness.

Seems the obvious WH dance headliner to me.

Hmm I’m perplexed at the silence around Chase and Status being a possibility for WH. They are back on the road and have played Glasto quite a few times. Thought they’d be very likely and predicted. I think Fred has a bigger audience at the moment.

  18. 1 minute ago, CaledonianGonzo said:

    Yes. I have.

Possibly. But we know exactly Bicep’s status at the G. They're West Holts headliners - possibly Other Headliners one day - and aren't going anywhere near El Pointo.

Fred again has leapfrogged Bicep already.

Fred makes songs ppl can sing along to. Which Bicep don’t.

  19. 3 minutes ago, CaledonianGonzo said:

So where's his Firestarter / Hey Boy Hey Girl / Open Up / Born Slippy / Chime?

Have you ever listened to him? Big Edm style drops with singalongs is kinda his thing.

But also… maybe the dance crowd has moved on from tunes like that and wants something different?

Bicep’s biggest tune is a slow banger

What female acts are touring around Glastonbury that could feasibly be Pyramid sub or Other headline? Lizzo for sure. Halsey?

Yeah I think Halsey could sub the pyramid before Arctics.

Can’t ignore her being at Prim and in Europe around the festival with the weekend free.

OS: Sam Smith, Fred Again, The Prodigy

Subs - Halsey, Lewis Capaldi, QOTSA

    Pulp as legend
