I think my scientific polling on the QOTSA against EJ is conclusive, it is a bad idea to have them play against each other.
As I've said all along if the original plan was to have Swift against QOTSA on the Saturday then it makes more sense to get QOTSA to sub GNR and have one of Lizzo, Sam Smith or Lewis Capaldi against GNR
It’s a bad idea in the same way that Kendrick and PSB is a bad idea. Two popular acts.
Some clashes suck. That’s just how it goes.

It's a murky pond to put your foot in on an internet discussion, but broadly you'd have to look at the demographic that is a massive fan of afrobeat music and the demographic that attends Glastonbury.
London has a way more diverse population than Glastonbury, so it makes sense that a more diverse range of music will have a fanbase there.
I think this argument is absolutely pants lol. Glastonbury has had world focused music up and down its lineup for ages. You only need to take one stroll through silver hayes or the south east corner to see how diverse the music at glasto is and how afrobeats has always had a place.
Also - it’s just wrong that a huge chunk of the attendees aren’t from London, Bristol, Manchester etc where this scene is massive. It isn’t a little Somerset fete anymore.
-
Genuine question on the afrobeats thing… who do you think attends this festival?
Do you think it’s just people from the local areas that come? I won’t be surprised if people from London, Manchester, Liverpool, Bristol etc make up the majority of the attendees.
Have no idea how someone can swing a “big in London but not big at Glastonbury” argument.

Are they definitely not playing anywhere? Where did that come from?

Also, if our Other headliners are Wizkid, Sam, QOTSA then that’s gotta be the first year in… absolutely ages that there’s no electronic Other headliner, which would be even weirder given the guitar heavy Pyramid headliners. I don’t buy it.
Edit: I’m including PSB as electronic but suppose argument could be made that they’re not…
Is afrobeats not dance music?

I could be wrong but I think that came from a different source.
Had that orbital rumour made its way over here before?
Regardless it isn’t true

Stop confusing people Matt lol.
We have heard from a person who is 100% not trolling that they spoke to someone in the business (that they believe would know and would not lie to them) that pulp and prodigy are playing and this info was passed onto Efests ages ago
And that person also said orbital who were ruled out today

Is Wizkid significantly bigger than Burna Boy i.e. could he be a sub?
Don’t think Burna has played a stadium here.

We’ve had info The Prodigy are there, albeit not anything about where they’re playing.
And that person also said Orbital. Who are not playing.
-
A lot of people on here haven’t heard of any new act until they are mentioned on here. Dunno why they think the festival is going to forever stand still and only book acts they know.

I've never even HEARD of WizKid. No way headlining other.
Because your music taste and knowledge only is the only one out there. Could you name a handful of acts in the charts right now?

Outside of QOTSA who seem nailed on for that slot now, The Prodigy seem like the most obvious OS headliner for this year to me, so I’m gonna go ahead and say that the info on one of Wizkid or Sam Smith is wrong rather than count The Prodigy out, whether that means one or both of those two are actually subbing Other, playing another stage, or just not playing at all.
Well if one of them is wrong then a clash makes no sense.
Can’t see the Prodigy against GNR.
Plus, we’ve never actually heard a solid piece of info saying the Prodigy are there.
-
It doesn’t look like the Prodigy are headlining the other so the question is whether they are playing somewhere else or not playing at all.
Them subbing the pyramid is also just not happening.
-
What about afrobeats instead of EDM?

I would say its a little naive to assume the Glastonbury team don't have a major comms and media plan in place. Of course they do. I think the difference is they have the power to be proactive with their planning and less reactive to what other events are up to.
There will be major coordination with the likes of the BBC on what is announced and when. Too many partners and stakeholders not to be a least a little bit organised on the press front!
Well yeah but I imagine they just drop an email to someone senior at the guardian a few hours in advance saying it’s coming so the guardian can deploy a minion to type it all up as fast as they can.

So basically Glastonbury don’t seem to be very organised in that aspect … maybe a could do better situation they’ve not adressed over many years that the smaller festivals are on top of .. I guess glastonbury can be a little complacent because of demand
Nothing to do with organised or not. They just don’t need to overwork themselves getting the major outlets to like them. Whenever they drop a lineup the press prioritises the story. They are in a fortunate position.
-
Glastonbury doesn’t need an organised press strategy because the press comes to them.

The Prodigy not being there is a massive kick in the teeth.
I wonder if they didn’t want to give them OS and thus they didn’t agree

I've said my piece but there's so many more artists who could've smashed it this year.
I’m not going to disagree with you on this - there are a lot of glaring omissions I’d say (acts just not touring Europe, and some I thought would be no brainers somehow not being around at all). But yeah I think in the grand scheme of things Glastonbury have had solid pickings from what is available.

We do this every year. There is no pattern but we usually get the poster around balance week. It drops when it’s ready.
They probably don’t even have a date yet. Just a rough idea of when they hope it go live. -

But this comes from the view that a huge chunk of the attendees aren’t coming from London? I think Glastonbury booking what’s big in London is booking in line with their attendees.
I’m sure they have data to back up who is buying tickets and from where.
This just sounds to me like people being challenged by things they don’t know and resisting it.
