  1. Having a big band open the festival on Friday is just too dangerous. There would be a massive rush towards the Pyramid field, and if it was announced prior to Friday, the field would have to be blocked off - like JP was for the Killers. The latter could happen I suppose, but even then there would be massive crowding issues at the entrance/exit points to the Pyramid field.

yep, it seems to be that.

He had shows booked in and announced until just-before-Glasto for ages, and then suddenly in the spring a few extras were announced.

    ? Baby 'I'm' a Rich Man ?

emily had said previously that they'd lost their planned-for headliner quite late and had to get a replacement.

Everything seems to point to Macca being the act they lost.

Any thoughts on why Macca would have pulled out/not wanted to do it?

  4. I kind of just presumed they'd booked the Killers for Saturday night ages earlier, since they'd done that "secret" JP slot before the fallow year. Guess they were actually just struggling to get someone...

  5. So are the rumours that there's something in the Glastonbury 50 book that reveals Fleetwood Mac are playing next June? Because that doesn't make much sense. There's no way FM or the festival would want to print that this far ahead. What if the band have to pull out? Foo Fighters had to pull out. Mumfords nearly did. RHCP did back in the 90s. It happens. I just don't see the festival wanting to print a confirmation in this book before it's actually happened.

That's fair enough, but bear in mind that it can take an age to tick over to the next page during a transaction. If during that time one of the other group gets through and it kicks out, you will all kick yourselves. This happened to us years ago - two friends of ours were in our group and we got for them, but they were also in another group and the sale for those got fucked up. In all the frantic messages and excitement that ensues when you get through those precious seconds can count for a lot...

    That's a good point.

Might need to have a chat with the individual about this.

It will kick you out. That's why being in two different groups is questionable ethically.

    I thought I'd heard this.

I believe the one person who is in our 6 who will likely be in another group will tell me straight away if she's sorted. I couldn't handle getting through and then having to start from scratch.

    To clarify, it's:

Coach Sale - max of 4

General Sale - max of 6

Coach Resale - max of 2

General Resale - max of 4

  8. Hypothetically, if you're trying in a group and someone in your group is also part of another group trying and they get sorted, yet I get through and enter their details does my transaction go through for the 5 people, or does it kick me back out?

Thing is, we all talk about Fleetwood Mac as being the "big one". As in one of the few major bands still going that has yet to play Glastonbury. But I mean... would they really be that good?

No Lindsay means no acoustic Big Love or Never Going Back Again. It wouldn't be as good as it could have been with Lindsay.

I've got a massive soft spot for it as I had it on cassette and listened to it a lot, but equally I can't remember the last time I listened to it.

Bit of an odd cookie that one

I only got it in the 00s, but I can imagine it didn't necessarily sit well with those who'd loved Automatic for the People and Out of Time. Quite a bit more distortion on Pete's guitar for starters.

Yeah I'm not sure what the deal is with the venue, they haven't had too many publicised problems that I'm aware of. Certainly not to the same degree as places like Lakota and Blue Mountain have recently. I remember one of the guys that manages it putting a picture of a big warehouse space up on Facebook, maybe they're thinking of moving anyway?

Still not much particularly interesting in the additional dates if I'm honest, really poor year personally when you compare it to Printworks and WHP.

Lots of redevelopment happening, or at least being planned, all around that area. I suspect that there's a fear that the development may lead to noise reductions being issued, or the site may just be bought outright. I wouldn't bet on Motion being there in 5 years time, maybe less.

I don't have any particular "wants" in this regard.. But I would suggest that tribute bands should only be booked as a occasional (mostly novelty) thing, and only in situations where there's no realistic prospect of the original act being able to do it in the foreseeable future. So occasional appearances from Bjorn Again or the Bootleg Beatles are one thing, but why book a Bon Jovi or Queen tribute if there's something resembling the real thing still kicking around?

Agree with this. I can never see The Beatles, so i don't feel bad seeing The Bootleg Beatles. But generally if an original band is passed over in order to book a tribute band I just don't think that's fair.

It's actually happening in most music venues these days and I'd hate for it to happen at Glastonbury.

  13. However much I'd love it to be FM for the 50th, I think Neil's interpretation is far more likely. It takes a LOT of work, effort and money to put on a one off show compared to going on tour. It really doesn't make much sense for FM to only play Glastonbury in 2020 - but, if they announce other shows in 2020, then it suddenly becomes much more likely.

After a few years of lurking on here, I'll be actually trying to get tickets this year. Can only imagine it'll be stressful but hoping with 6 of us trying plus hopefully a couple more family members should have a decent chance.

Is there any strategy or just on and refresh and hope for the best? (sorry this has probs been asked a million times before.

Basically. Although, I think you ca actually refresh the page too much... - can anyone confirm?

Just try to utilise as many devices as possible, be prepared with required info and have the funds ready.

  15. There is an appetite for country in the UK - Country2Country sells out most years. But at Glastonbury it doesn't seem to be there.

I was there for Price in '17 and Lukas Nelson this year, and the crowds were small. If Kacey was offered a Pyramid slot I bet it'd be early afternoon Friday/Saturday, which would result in a small crowd. I don't think she'd do it. She's becoming huge in the US, but since country is still niche over here, she's struggling to break out.

I don't know where you'd put her. Pyramid wouldn't be busy enough, and I think she'd want third down as a minimum. She wouldn't accept the Park or Acoustic. They're not going to put her on Other or West Holts.

I'd be there - if she played - but realistically I don't see how the festival bookers and her people would agree a slot right now.

Just a feeling but I can see Reg accepting the standard fee. It’ll be a hugely prestigious show for him and one of the centrepieces of his farewell tour.

Especially since, in theory, it's now or never for him (well, 2020 or 2021). I expect he'll accept a lower fee.

FM I can't see accepting a standard fee. I think all the recent talk of "still needing to get FM" by both Michael and Emily hints that the band still haven't agreed, but are probably close. They haven't unveiled any tour plans for next year, so would they play Glasto without being on tour? I think Reg for 2020 and FM for 2021.
