White Lies have a new album coming up called Five.

Why do artists think it’s clever naming an album after which number release it is? It’s unoriginal, it’s boring and frankly I hate it.

Tbf, unless there was another article about it I've just read it and he says Kendrick is in advanced negotiations to headline, Michael and Emily were chasing Madonna, and then says bookies have made Macca the favourite to headline and that a festival insider said "Macca would be an incredible headliner".

Obviously advanced negotiations would mean Kendrick would be pretty likely to end up doing it, but them chasing Madonna probably doesn't mean a lot, I'd expect them to be chasing her if she has a new album/tour planned. And the Macca thing is just them stating the bookies' favourite.

Fair enough. Couldn't recall what they'd written.

    Kendrick/Madonna story was someone else.

So was this. But either way now that they've put it in print that she's playing it is more serious a consideration than the three headline names they've almost-claimed. Still, they got Foo Fighters wrong that time so we'll see.

Yeah my choice too although Cher would be great. I believe she'll play without the Sun saying but I'm keeping the Legend term mentioned losely as feel she could play above that slot.

The Sun have said Cher turned it down because it didn’t pay enough, so you’d have to take both of those.

They’ve also said the headliners are Kendrick, Madonna and McCartney so I guess were done here. :P

The only chance they'll both happen the same year is if they both want to do the big one and accept the fee will be lower. I don't think myself FM will care as much as Madonna would mind about the year but I do think Mick will have a price at the lowest he would go to play and that Glastonbury would only afford him if she didn't play. Macca for example knows the drill and will accept what it is and Coldplay will probably play for free...that would be the only way that they would get both as I reckon combined they'd ask for around £1.5m, and I doubt Eavis would pay FM without Buckingham £700k

Mate this is too deep into a fantasy world.

Well they headlined on the Sam's Town tour. The next album was too soon, and on the Battle Born tour they were here during a fallow year in 2012, followed by a late June Wembley date in 2013 which would probably have made Glasto less interested. And this time around they have been touring their new album over here during the summer in a fallow year again. So it doesn't seem to me like they've been snubbed at all.

What relationship does Florence have with the festival that The Killers don't? It was their first UK festival headline slot very early into their career, after they subbed in 2005 when their back catalogue was so short that they had to play b sides. And then they played a secret set last year which couldn't have gone down any better.

I'm a diehard fan and I don't really lose any sleep over Mark and Dave not touring. I doubt the majority of a Glastonbury crowd would even notice tbh; Brandon Flowers is The Killers to most people.

Florence is hanging around backstage at the festival every year and plays on every album, and even turned down headline slots elsewhere to sub Glastonbury last time.

The Killers being given a headline berth so early on doesn’t really say much about Glastonbury but about The Killers; they just blew up that quickly and were headlining all sorts of places. Since then they’ve done V four times, T three times yet never returned to Glastonbury until a secret set (that they clearly didn’t turn down a headline slot to do). It really doesn’t suggest that the festival is trying but just missing them each time, more that they got them once at a great time and are happy with that.

I won't get into a big debate about it again, but it does baffle me how sometimes the same people who think the likes of Florence and the Machine could headline again rule out The Killers.

What has kept The Killers from headlining again already? Unless it was the two members that they replaced with lookalikes, I don't see why their chances would be improving.

edit: I don't actually think it impossible that they'll headline again but it's not baffling. I think Florence and the Machine have better chance of returning given the relationship with the festival and stuff.

Again, unless one of them is a weaker headliner. If not then GSS at only 35k I'd bet is possible.

Judging by the 10k capacity venue across town that they haven’t sold out, it probably won’t happen.

Special guest to Muse would be the best shot.

So are Fleetwood Mac really still a possibility now they sacked Lynsey? No more u2 or pearl jam rumours? We really are running out of big name headliners now aren't we!

    It’s September. We’ve barely begun.

They will probably headline it with a greatest hits set and some new songs they haven't played before at Glastonbury like something just like this

From the episode after a head full of dream s

    Who's in that episode?

Dolly Patton up again some random mid-card Other Stage act that no one cares about?

Did you not go see The Horrors?

I agree though. 8pm isn't gonna be time where people think "nothing else is good on, might as well go see Coldplay this time".

I dunno, I'm pretty sure quite a lot were predicting Kanye that year? Although it was obviously his only show and he had no new material so I think it was more of a "He's an overdue headliner" thing. We had some bloke from Palma Violets or whatever say he was headlining on the radio, too. I'm sure by the time he was announced he was one of the more widely predicted headliners, although we didn't know for sure he was doing it.

I remember some of us clocked Big Sean’s tour having a Glastonbury shaped hole in them and we thought it was cos he would be appearing with his mentor. But then he didn’t but Ye appeared anyway. Kanye is definitely the most surprising headline announcement in recent years, aside from The Who obviously cos that wasn’t fair.

Based on nothing of substance whatsoever, I would have though the chances were pretty decent especially given that she largely swerved UK festivals this year. But everyone seems to be putting her down for IOW so maybe there's reasons to think she'll be there instead.

Four years on from last Glastonbury headline performance is just too soon, even if she stepped in and may be rewarded for doing so. She'll still be able to headline on the next album so might as well put it off until then and cement her status elsewhere. IOW is just because she doesn't really fit in anywhere else except maybe as the larger headliner for Latitude.

Can’t believe we’re already so deep into silly season that we’re debating the headlining credentials of Elton bloody John! Simpsons thread takeover time must be a matter of weeks away.

He’s so small he fits in a dog cage. Not even a human cage. Defo not a headliner.

Don't you try and come between Gazza and his Coldplay 2020 dream. He's been waiting two years to tell us all he was right.

Apparently they're getting set to tour again next year, which is bad because it destroys that hiatus talk but also great because there's practically no chance they'll have an album by 2020. So we should neither have to carefully avoid another Coldplay set or suffer Gazza's gloating. :P

Not being funny but for anyone who thinks they would book Elton as a headline, come on. As English dates next year he has to massive outdoor gigs....1st Central County Ground in Hove and Cardiff City at 33k, not even Millenium Stadium. I think he'd get booked for the Legend slot but I don't think they would bother over others for headlining.

Because festivals generally don't turn around to the biggest selling living artist and go "Cardiff City Stadium? You're having a fooking laugh ya nobody".

Don't speak too soon, you've not even heard the song that's narrated by siri yet.

“The 1975” will be Siri reading out their Wikipedia article, for no reason at all.
