TWOD are one of my favourite bands. Will be seeing them 4 times this years , after twice last year.

I love an oat milk latte and a bit of Bon Iver as much as the next guy but I think the train has overshot the station....

I don't want to single out any poster (it was same last year) but some times I see things like the following:

"oh neon toaster are clashing with intergalactic suitcase wheels" . Such a shame they are both a must see. So I YouTube both bands and they have no subscribers, paltry view counts and the music is absolutely dreadful.

If you were "must see" you'd be on after 8pm at least. Not on the Ribena stage at 1830.

Sometimes I get a vibe that people are deliberately anti-mainstream. They wear it as a badge of honour. It's performative.

They look down on the folks who go to Blur while they listen to some Swedish lad banging milk bottles and bin lids to a crowd of 11 people.

Well thank the lord you ain't one of the festival bookers.

saw gilla band at wide awake yesterday - one of the best times i've seen them. sound was a little on the quiet side but bodes well for PS.

caroline polacheck was good too, although i wouldn't class myself as a fan - her stage set was really impressive.

I was there too - great London festival & hope it continues - I thought Alex G was very average live (but like him on record), I purposely skipped Gilla Band as I'll be making sure to see them at (the very loud) Dice Stage.  Finished the day watching Two Shell, who were good.  Look forward to Caroline Polachek at Primavera.

anyone notice that the set times are a bit weird this year.

2 hours for depeche mode but barely over an hour for kendrick?

delgados playing 45 minutes is hardly even a support slot set and also playing far too early for a band i'd consider better/more important than similar big scottish bands that are festival darlings (belle and sebastian, mogwai etc.). in fact lots of acts that would be better suited to later in the day/sun set vibes (the beths) or 3am late night slots (wednesday)

just feels like a bit of a rip off considering the vastly increased costs for travel/accom this year. not even mentioning that weird ass gap on the saturday night.

sure it'll be a great time but it costs so. fucking. much. this year.

I think every act with the exception of Depeche Mode (maybe Pet Shop Boys), have the standard festival time slot.

I don't think Depeche Mode are doing any other festivals, I'm guessing Primavera bagged them this year because of the 2 sites in Barcelona & Madrid, so as far as DM are concerned it's just another tour date, which is good news for DM fans!

Anyone planning on seeing Turnstile and then head to Auditori for Boris after that?

I have never gone to Auditori that late, any prediction if it will get full for Boris?

Me too.  I went in for Tim Hecker around the same time a few years back as Rosalia was coming on, I was walking against what felt like half of Barcelona entering the site, but the Auditori at that time had loads of space.

Thanks for all the Saturday tips.

Many of them are already on my "like-to-see" list (Caroline Polachek, Wednesday, Jockstrap, Ezra Furman, The War on Drugs, Surf Curse, The Voidz, Two Shell), others I checked out thoroughly but it didn't really work for me (Maggie Rogers, Arlo Parks, Holly Humberstone, Rosalía)  and there are also some that I checked only very briefly to realize that they are not my cup of tea genre-wise (JPEGMAFIA, Death Grips, Gilla Band).

As for the possible Auditori artists - if I see them I will probably enjoy them. Last year, I decided to see Arooj Aftab (there was no Auditori last year but if it had been I'm sure that she would have performed there) only after the timetable was released and I  enjoyed it very much, but this is not a kind of act I'm excited about half a year in advance.

Must-see for me means either a band I love for many years (Blur) or something new that got me so excited that I'm spending hours checking videos of their live performances (Cavetown, Ghost).

However, Overmono and Nia Archives somehow slipped my attention while researching the line-up so I'm gonna check them out.

John Cale too on the Saturday - can't wait to see him.  Plus My Morning Jacket & St Vincent.

Any suggestions for the Thursday ? I still find it the weakest of the days despite Blur. I am looking forward to turnstile, pusha t, blackhaine, emeralds, hud mo, Alex g. I like what I heard from la tigre and nxworries but I don’t know if they are going to be must-see of mine. Not very interested in darkside (should I?), I don’t know much about ghost, I have already seen Boris and amenra (in a great double-bill, both recommended). BCNR? If it’s the same show I’ll skip them

Reading everyones suggestions I'm thinking this day is going to be a clash nightmare - I'll add PinkPatheress into the mix if not already noted - great having her back on the lineup.

because opinions ......people are alllowed to think Mad cool is better if they want

anyway i do notice people treat this festival a bit like Glastonbury which isnt a bad thing, but its more like supporting a football team, they will defend it to the hilt and rather aggressively at that, anyone who dares mention that oooo i like mad cool this year a bit more is shut down and laughed at (not by everyone) and not just you, should of really quoted the person you were quoting

if you had quoted me you'll see I put each to their own, absolutely no finger pointing at people who think Mad Cool is better.

I'm laughing at the line up poster & the fact that in the run up to the Primavera annoucement there was a lot of comparison with the 2 festivals, or at least the lineups, which now that both have been revealed is a bit of a head scratcher.

And yes, Primavera is my football team 🙂

  8. I'd argue that this edition is more stacked than 2022 for me, and that is including the 2 weekends I attended.

I found myself discovering a lot more in the build up to 2022, whereas by comparison this year I'm already anxious about the pile up that is Thursday & Friday...  Darkside, Le Tigre, NXWORRIES, Turnstile, Alex G, Arthur Verocai, Boris, Emeralds, Perfume, PinkPantheress, Sudan Archives, Kendrick, Depeche Mode, Four Tet, Sparks, Alvvays, Daphni, Japanese Breakfast, Julia Holter, The Delgados, Karate, Julia Jacklin, Unwound, Beth Orton & Soul Glo... ooft!

Saturday maybe a bit less crowded (or at least with the bigger names I've already seen live), but still FKA Twigs, St Vincent, My Morning Jacket, Death Grips, Ezra Furman, Gilla Band, John Cale, Laurie Anderson, JPEGMAFIA & Two Shell.

Thank god Pet Shop Boys are clash free on the Wednesday.

  9. Really baffled by people trashing Calvin Harris & Skrillex (it’s not like they’ve booked the Black Eyed Peas!) & somehow not getting hyped by Kendrick, Rosalia, Depeche Mode, Sparks, Pet Shop Boys, Anderson.Paak, Le Tigre, FKA Twigs, Boris, The Delgados, John Cale, Beth Orton, My Morning Jacket, Soul Glo, Gilla Band… as eclectic & far reaching as always!!

…not to mention Turnstile, Japanese Breakfast, Perfume, Sudan Archives & Arthur Verocai(!) all being rebooked.

    Very strong lineup for me.

  10. I'm really hoping we get the return of artists who had to cancel in 21/22 - Sudan Archives, Madlib (& Freddie Gibbs?), Jessica Pratt, Turnstile, Sparks, Arthur Verocai & Japanese Breakfast.

Headliners - Frank Ocean, Portishead, Kendrick, Pet Shop Boys, New Order.

Too much to ask for quintessential Primavera bands that don't tour outside the US like Ween & The Feelies?

Would love some new & repeats like Fever Ray, Open Mike Eagle, Gilla Band, Deerhoof, Chat Pile, Alex G, Kevin Morby, Party Dozen, US Girls, Devo, Converge, Snail Mail, Helado Negro, Alvvays, The Delgados & Broken Social Scene.

    Bring on Tuesday!!

I wrote this when feeling a bit emotional about a festival I've loved for so many years and have stood up for it so many times Thought I would review again once the dust had settled.

So...on reflection I don't think Primavera has died. It's still there to be enjoyed. HOWEVER...much of the magic was in the sense of it being just busy enough and this year for the first time the scales have tipped. The site simply cannot comfortably handle so many additional people and yet it is clear they want to sell more tickets, no matter the harm this causes.

    It's like infidelity.

The relationship can continue but it's never quite the same again...

I have faith that the complaints / comments will be acknowledged this year, I've never seen a more negative response to an edition of Primavera Sound (even 2011 wasn't this bad) - and with Twitter & other social platforms the customer has a louder voice.

I will say this is the first year I've not had the post Primavera blues, that 2nd Weekend (and 11 nights of drinking) broke me!
