Last night saw the Glastonbury Emerging Talent Competition Finals take place in Pilton with the shortlist of 8 acts performing. Festival organiser Michael Eavis was not able to attend this year, having been laid low with a stomach bug.

Instead long term Festival booker Martin Elbourne announced the overall winner was Newcastle-based all girl four-piece Bridie Jackson and The Arbour who will be rewarded with a main stage appearance on the Acoustic Stage at this year's festival.

Lead singer Bridie had a double cause for celebration as it was also her birthday, she revealed she was "very happy and very drunk," and that "turning 30 was not so bad."

Mr Elbourne also revealed that all of the acts who had competed in last night's competition were likely to be be given the chance to perform on a stage somewhere at this summer's Glastonbury Festival. Revealing to eFestivals that The Dancers had been awarded a slot on the John Peel stage, and 15 year old Isaiah Dreads rewarded with an appearance at the Silver Hayes Dance Village.

This year's competition entrants were all musicians not signed to a major label, based in the UK and Ireland. The finalists had been selected by 40 music bloggers from 8,000 entrants, and included terrific performances from Lillian Todd Jones, Port Isla, Rhys Lloyd Morgan, Black Balloons, The Dancers, Isaiah Dreads, and A Band Called Wanda.

Whilst it was a unanimous decision by the judges the whole competition was much closer this year than previous years and any one of the acts could have been announced as winners with all delivering accomplished showcases of various music styles.

Glastonbury Festival has been running the competition to find the greatest Emerging Talent for the last six Festivals. Previous competitions have brought bands like Treetop Flyers, London Afrobeat Collective, Ellen and the Escapades, We Have Band, Golden Silvers, The Subways, Stornoway, and Scouting For Girls to Festival prominence.

eFestivals will have reviews and pictures of all the competing acts online shortly.
