  1. Second article and last about the music there.

Great reviews! i read your bit on Kasabian and i got goosebumps and started smiling like a crazy person as it just took me back to being stood there having the time of my life! "lets go f**king mental!!" ha ha...

Remco was cool as well, we went and watched him quite a few times.

gutted i missed The Foals though :(

  2. I actually enjoyed Garrix a lot more than I was expecting!

i liked about 6 mins of his set....then he just carried on playing that repetitive shit he does. Fire works were ok, was expecting a bit more to be honest though. The big floppy glow stick things were cool :)      Prodigy or chemical brothers would be amazing!!!!! cant see them booking them as a closing act though.

I went and watched C2C in the A38 later that night. they were ace but they didnt have any of the video screens working or those big circular lighting rigs that went all the way along the tent roof.

  3. Had an amazing time and despite the Sziget cough lingering for a whole week after getting home... I'd be back there again in a heartbeat.

I stayed in VIP camping where the facilities were great and I'd definitely pay the extra again when I go back... having a swimming pool to cool off in when it was so hot and never having to wait more than a few mins for a shower was great.

Overall, one of the best weeks I can remember and I think I might just head back next year...

When me and Mkrve were walking back from the beach one day...we saw the VIP swimming pool, very jealous!! :)

questions about VIP camping - was there shade and how cramped was the camping? also...surely it was noisy all night due to the close stages? i hung out a lot at a camp next to the VIP bar (to the left of the mainstage as you look at it) and that was loud as hell until 6am...then sound checks started again a few hours later! :)

  4. Headliner wise I'd like to see one (or a couple of) of: Arctic Monkeys, Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam, Biffy Clyro, Depeche Mode, Faith No More.

I also think Skrillex should have the end party next year.

More generally it'd be neat to see some of: Porter Robinson, Royal Blood, Years & Years, Madeon, Weezer, Zedd.

some very good points there!! :)  i thought Martin Garix was shit and was a poor end to an amazing festival. i would love the Foo's to play!

  5. Had an amazing time aswell and ofcorse, i do have a huge cough, still do... :(

I totally loved it and I will be back next year, but since everybody are so positive, i'll bring out some bad points, ha!

I stayed in Siesta camping. It had some major issues there but it was deffo still better decision to go there than stay in regular camping. And my biggest hightlight was not music, it was FUERZA BRUTA, that giant street theater.

I stayed in alternativa (the italian camp) and felt the same as you, worth it..but a few issues.

toilets - a few seats broke quite near the start of the week and weren't fixed, quite a few toilet door locks broke that weren't fixed. there was loo roll most of the time, a lot fo the time though it was out side the loo's and you had to reel off what you wanted.

showers - quite a few showers. no shower curtains, floor flooded easily, they ranged from being ICE cold (so cold you couldnt get under them) to warm to flicking between hot and cold.

security - felt safe. a few times a night i saw a security guy wondering around. was a bit of pain when i sat by my tent having a joint! :)   i saw him coming and dived into my tent

there was a bit of food and a bar out the front of the campsite, and just around the corner a card top up place and a few more food vans. It was nice and quiet at night, you could still hear the festival though. On the sunday night for some reason i could hear Sigma in a the A38 stage VERY clearly!? i was camped at the back of the field and there was a service road that ran along side it. This posed a problem at times! like some mornings at 8am when there would be lorries being loaded / unloaded and just general noise....and sometimes, i mean LOUD noise.

Would i camp here again? yes. it was definitly better than the general camping, mainly because i felt the general camping was quite poor (compared to the festivals im used to).

Its also quite a shady place, which is good as it was so hot. Felt sorry for the guys who had paid for the pre-pitched tents though. They were all picthed in lines about 6 inches apart...in direct sunlight. not a tree to be seen!

really wished i had of seen that fuerza Bruta :(     i will next time!! :)

  6. had an amazing time at my first Sziget!! booze was cheap, food was fairly cheap and ranged from okish through to good. god almighty it was hot! you just spent all day sweating, you can have a shower and put clean clothes on and you'd just sweat instantly. what about 4am on the last sunday....that was some crazy thunder. The rain cooled shit down, but also made it muddy for a bit and i'd left all my clothes out on my washing line :(

Never done a european fest before, and the atmoshpere was different to the UK festies thaI im used to it. It was great, but i did have a few problems though. Saw quite a few idiots bashing through crowds with their elbows up not giving a fuck. people would knock into you and at a UK festy they would say sorry...or acknowldge you. But here, people just ignored you (not everyone). if you knocked into them and said sorry, they'd just look at you like your a dick.

didnt find too many other english people there, lots of dutch and quite alot of Australians. i stayed in the Alternativa campsite which was overall a good place. i just dont get why the Europe stage which was outside the campsite was SO loud?! most the time there was only a tiny amount of people stood watching it.

there were loads of cool bars, i preffered the bars a lot of the time to being stood at a stage. highlights were Kasabian and Jungle! also loved G.Bordello, florence and the machine, C2C, Cloud +9....and even Limp Bizkit?!  KOL played a few bangers but there set list was too boring for me.

Would definitley recommend this festival. its not for the fait hearted though, as its a tough week. worth it though :)

  7. The last weekend of this Sziget had big names (kasabian, LOL & martin Garix) and the festival became packed with day trippers (im guessing hungarian locals)

I wander how that will work next year with it being wed - wed? will the last mon, tue, wed have the big names? but that will hinder the day locals due to work e.t.c?? or will they stick the big names on the weekend still, but they may hinder the "feel" of the closing festival??

anyway......cant wait for next year!! :)

  8. Hi

i flew back on Tuesday after 12 nights out in Budapest / Sziget festival. had an AMAZING time, but now have a horrid come down and sziget AIDS! (we're all coughing our lungs out!)

Budapest as a city is great. The bars are awesome, and there is so many of them! i did a walking tour which was good, also played an escape room which was fun. i had the city pass so getting around the city was easy, also visted the a Spa free of charge due to  the city pass.

i'll write a review of the festival soon....too tired! :)    i basically lived on about 3 hrs sleep a night for nearly two weeks.

  9. currently on the train to London, will be in BP by tonight. staying in the city for a few nights before hitting the festival. (staying in the oktagon area...that may be spelt wrong?!)

probably do some touristy things first. also found a gun range im going to visit :)

well...here goes my first european festival....and my first festival alone!

  10. Heyyyy,

Just a quick question, does anyone know that with VIP tickets do we have the possibility of setting up camp on the saturday or sunday before Sziget starts on the monday? Thaaaaaanks :music:

yes if you buy a moving-in ticket. (about 30 euros)

EDIT: shaun, you beat me to it! i'm moving into Alternativa camp on Sat, or maybe Sun. i have a full weekend moving-in ticket so can just go with the flow

  11.

Here's the list of stuff I've thought to take, if you can think of anything else let me know, I've probably missed something!

    hay

flip flops? towel? ive got a micro-fibre camping towel, packs small and dries mega quick. im only taking travel toiletries as i will buy everything i need from the supermarket.

ive also copied all tickets and will put a set in my check-in luggage and a set in my hand luggage. if i or the airline lose one of my bags, at least i have my tickets :)

im not taking a sleeping bag as they take up too much room, just going to buy a blanket there.

they do have a laundary service as i found it on the site but cant find it now.

Do you have to wrap your bag? i seem to remember the airline doing it for my mates rucksack when we went to Amsterdam. im flying BA from Heathrow, may give them a buzz.

  12. Hi

i know this is a boring question...but what are you guys packing? (especially the people flying).

Im guessing i'll be in shorts most the time, definitley in the day time. Even if it rains its not going to be cold in the day....surely? i'm thinking taking 2 x shorts, plus one pair of swimming shorts. i'll travel in jeans as they take up more room in my bag, then mainly its T-shirts. i dont really feel the cold, even at wet UK festivals i only normally wear two long sleeve Ts and a thin waterproof jacket...and sometimes thats wearing shorts.

I'm taking a large rucksack (70l i think?) which will have my tent inside, then a small rucksack which will be hand luggage on the plane.

Im a buggar for always taking too much when i go places. With UK festivals its no probs as i leave loads in the car. But this time ive got to get 2 trains to get me to the airport, fly to budapest, taxi to city, then days later move to the festival and so on.....so traveling light is needed.

    Cheers

  13. Regardless of my earlier post, i still think its a fab festival. I had such a good time last year with amazing weather, great neighbours, we met groups and hung out with them, it was pretty much perfect.

i do think the weather bought the atmosphere down a little. Last year in the day there were loads of parades and games / activities but not so many this year due to the mud / rain. Plus, there were just less smiley happy people...no one likes getting piss wet through :)

It was still full of nice friendly people but i do think there were more chavs there (Global Gathering was cancelled?). They didnt  cause me any harm but there not very approacable and down with "hippy / trippy / friendly" festival vibe. i saw two big arguments, one of which i had to step in and calm it down. Also heard some chavs taking the piss out of some hippy lads who were doing no harm. As i expressed in my earlier post, the poeple camping by us were just plain idoits. Screaming their heads off all night, music blasting so loud all night. :(

I also felt there was more Ket use going on. i dont have a problem with drugs, but Ket really mongs people out. ok, their Ket use doesnt harm me, and they're no trouble, but seeing seas of monged out faces doesnt create the nicest vibe :)

The stages there are great....love the Drop stage. Just wish the collsillyum had a roof! the airshow and fireworks are brilliant too. The microlights droping the lights that made the the sky look like glitter was amazing (there were some free tickets dropped too) I agree that SGP isnt about the acts and its nice not seeing corporate sponsorship everywhere.

On the saturday night i was at the Drop stage stood on the hay bales, when a kid in a SGP hi-viz climbed up. He was clearly fucked and was doing Christ the Redeemer poses on the edge, people who having to grab him to stop him jumping / falling. Then walking back to my tent on the night (north camp, by the entrance) there is a staff compound. The steward on the gate was also fucked out of his face, he could barely stand!

I did have a good time and i would recomend people go to SGP. i would go back but there are other festivals i want to try - Shambala, Beatherder, boomtown.

Did anyone find any hidden stuff this year? (last year was the sunflower fields and ice rink)

  14. Thats a tempting offer thank you, il PM you now

And for anyone who has been to Sziget before i just have 1 more question:

Can anyone tell me the best way for topping up your festicard, should i bring over a lot of Hungarian Forints or would it be ok to top up the card using my debit card or would i get screwed over with rates?

    Thanks :beach:

I cant decide on this either. im going to need cash for outside the festival and then for topping up my festicard. But i dont like using my Debit card abroad as its not as protected / issured as your credit card is. but if you take cash out of an ATM with a credit card...Or....use it at a currency exchange then you get charged loads! (HSBC is 2.35% transaction rate plus 18% cash advance charge). will topping up my festicard count as normal payment....or cash advance??

think i will take Forints....use my debit card to transfer onto festicard. and if i run out either pay for sales on my credit card or get cash out of an ATM with my debit card.

  15. i went to SGP last year and was blown away by how friendly everyone one was, how much effort had gone into the festival and just the lovely vibe to the whole place. this year,,,

    Pros

Ricky Armed and Martinez Brothers playing the drop on the Thur nite

    food

Some Djs called Bare playing Picnic Disco fri day.

lost woods / chai wallis was a good venue

    Cons

    weather

    the people!!!

it was really quite chavy. All around where we camped (which was the exact same spot as last year) was just massive groups of idiots who just made massive amounts of noise 24/7 and trashed the place with zero consideration for anyone but them selves. all you heard constantly was "you is reem man!"

outside on the metal green fence someone wrote in mud "fuck you hippie c**ts and fuck you mud"...i thought that summed it all up.

think that will be my last SGP.

  16. Hi

Bored at work so just sat here thinking about Sziget. got me thinking....

Citypass: is it a wrist band? How does it work on the trams and stuff, do you just show it to an attendant? I want to get mine when I land at the airport but I don’t land until something like 5:30pm Thursday 6th so will the kiosk be open? If not, can you get them from the festival site? Because I land on the Thursday the shuttle bus will not be running so I'll have to get a taxi (I'm staying in the Oktagon district)

Lockers: just seen the dimensions of the lockers, I have a guarded locker in Alternativa camping. Wow they're small, a pair of trainers will fill it!

Clothes: Was having a read of the site and came across the laundry service. I did wonder about this seems I'm there from the 6th – 18th. Did anyone use this service?

    cheers guys....not long now :)

  17. Rudimental will play the main stage on sunday.

Not a fan myself but they do seem to whip up the crowd so might be quite good. i really had my heart set on the Chemical Brothers playing :(

  18. I'm from the UK and I've been to Sziget in 2013 and 2014. It rained a bit last year and got a little mudddy but the Sziget team put stuff down to soak up the mud so it was fine. It's also hot in the day which dries the mud too. I wouldn't bother with boots, it's too hot. Trainers should be fine.

I was hoping some one was going to say that :)   really didnt want to have to try and fit boots in my luggage.

As for temperatures...... even if its wet, or at night...ive been told its still warm? im not the type who feels the cold, UK festivals tend to be shorts in the day and maybe night time too (or jeans and T-shirt at night). UK can get cold later into the night so i just wear a long sleeve t-shirt, or maybe a thin jumper/ jacket.

So im guessing at Sziget i'll be in short / t-shirt most the time?
