Did anyone else notice that the sound iin Far Out seemed a bit off? We were about a third of the way back for Young Fathers, and there was really no definition in the mix, very hard even to hear the between-songs chat. Others in my group reported similar over the weekend. Those watching from the bar/tables outside say they could hear every word. Can anyone explain why that is ?

Yes muddy on the floor and muddy in my ear was my "hilarious" observation. The positive is that I was completely wrecked on the Sunday morning but could still enjoy a great run of shows from the first table.

  2. The kids didn't bother me so much. As I could usually make my way around them further up to the front but I would agree, it is a bit of an assault course with the volume of trolleys.

More annoying to me were groups of glittered up fancy dressers (as it was always them) who smash their way forwards, talk loudly for 20 minutes and then smash their way back out. A lot of open drug talking which I've no issue with if they can manage their behaviour.

No other complaints (aside from national express, I wish there was an alternative festival option). There was so much good music on display and such depth that the reviews I've read all have different highlights and few overlap with my own.

    Hi,

Does anyone have any tips on re-selling Green Man tickets? Have had 2 listed for a couple of days on the official GM resale FanTicks (below face value!) and no luck yet, was wondering whether to de-list and put on Twickets instead. I can't go due to medical issues so am already pretty gutted to miss out, so just want to avoid losing all my money if possible!

I'm a small sample size but bought my tickets on fanticks this year and was confused by the amount of variation in listings. In the end I payed more for a 'verified by ticketline' as it appeared reassuring. This is a long way to say, add this option if you can.

What was the problem with Lokerse?

The stage area is flat, narrow and long so very limited views of the stage. Oddly the TV screens are inverted inwards so if you are to the side you basically can't see anything.

You need to leave the main area and walk through people arriving to the festival, then through another security gate, through a sports hall and down some temporary stairs to get to the second stage. This also means you have to go back and queue through main security once you leave this area.

Nobody considered that everyone would leave after Blur so the 5 or so buses to move 1000s of people took forever. Then the same amount of time to get off the 'parking' (they dump everyone in an industrial zone with no signs of where you can and cannot park).

On top of that you have the usual festival prices/poor food-drink options made worse with a special card system which charges you a fee to use it, doesn't display the balance (several times we were charged more) and are now stuck with.

For balance, Blur were great 😃

Also all of these points will be familiar to regulars at the festival and they don't seem to care so maybe it is is just me.

Hi all, was looking for some help with a few clashes (based on clash-finder, depending on final timings) with some bands I haven't seen live and can't (and don't want to!) choose between. Just wondering what people might recommend if having seen them before.

    Here are the clashes:

Lost Map vs Rogue Jones (thurs)

(arghhg!) Spiritualised vs Bug Club (thurs)

Sorry vs Eaves Wilder vs Butch Cassidy (Fri)

      Daniel Avery vs PVA (Fri)

Water From your eyes vs Mandy, Indiana (Sat)

      James Holden vs MadMadMad

There's a few others currently with some i've seen before, so guess i'll make the call on the day. Hoping there's a little bit of "shuffle" when the times come out to help.

    Thanks anyone for their recommendations!!

    Paul.

Can only comment on a couple of these.

Saw Butch Kassidy a few days ago and they do very good post rock circa-the early 2000s. So if that's your thing they are worth checking out. See also Deathcrash later in the weekend as a possible alternative.

Didn't get along with PVA when I saw them. Seemed like they were more suited to a dark club basement not a festival atmosphere.

Holden solo is a bit 'man behind electronics desk', Holden with band is amazing. I assume though that we have the former so I suppose it depends on how much you like his music and are happy to see it recreated without bells and whistles.

  6. Saw Etran de L'air this weekend and they were superb. Like if a 60s Pebbles/Nuggets compilation had made a stop in the Sahara.

Completely different question about food. Do people have annual favourite food stalls? Has anyone ate at the banquet? Wouldn't be against a decent festival meal but would worry about it cutting through 3-4 hours of music.

  7. We gave up on Paper Dress last year. It seemed like they had space for 20 people. Queues every time we passed.

Oslo's was packed and sweat running off the ceilings level of hot especially for Deathcrash. Though they didn't have people controlling the capacity so you could always get in.

The other venues seemed fine. It appeared lots choose to hang around the main church all day (which would explain the high number of disinterested talkers).

  8. If PJ is in the conversation why not go all out and toss in Pulp? Both have zero likelihood.

Trying to see what is on around the same dates, Electric Picnic have Idles who have played the festival before and would fit the slot. (Unsure though what day they play Electric Picnic.)

This isn't really about this year, but as Green Man are going with Self Esteem (likely a replacement for a pullout but still a decent size and someone who was being mentioned in EOTR predictions) I wonder what the thought here is about British headliners? There was always at least one a year, and as mentioned before Simon's Guardian interview says they lost a female headliner to an exclusivity contract and that might well have been Wet Leg, but it does feel like post-Covid they're moving away from Brits at the top end. All the likely Woods and Garden headliners will be international and the highest listed Brit on the current lineup is Greentea Peng, who you wouldn't think of as a major draw otherwise. Last year while black midi headlined Garden the only UK act in the daily top three on Woods were Los Bitchos, who highly likely only moved up when Gabriels pulled out. Does that speak more to a lack of potential young headliners? Fontaines DC aren't around at the moment and they're probably best placed, but otherwise would it have to reply on the likes of Squid, Shame, Dry Cleaning or post-Isaac BC,NR to kick on when they might not, or take a post-Simz chance on someone like Loyle Carner?

I think it is a sign of British talent that there are a lot of really good upcoming acts that are ever so slightly too awkward to fill a main stage (Squid being a typical example).

I imagine many a mid-sized festival cursed the day Isaac left BC:NR as they were all set up to be prime headline material for the next few years.

Is RW just waiting for Lokerse Feesten to sell out as a part of an agreement (or as a back up, a certain date to arrive) to announce Blur?

Not sure why there is certainty here on Blur. The fact that Lokerse Feesten have not sold out shows that the interest isn't there.

Crap line up this year. Let’s remember last year they had bicep and Caribou on one day. Also that overpriced water in a can really annoyed everyone! Literally skidding on cans everywhere or getting them thrown at you. Won’t be back again.

Must be tough having a sh*t taste in music

Yeah, I think I often prefer the fiction writers they get in, Max Porter was great for example, David Keenan, Backlisted talking about Ulverton, that kind of thing. Environmental journalism from the Guardian, however, is never going to light my fire. But you know, fortunately, the festival is not built entirely around my tastes/prejudices.

I wish Backlisted were there every year. It is where I discovered the podcast and they seem a natural fit.

  13. This isn't a giveaway for festival tickets (which they also do), it is a giveaway for tickets for touring bands playing at the festival. Which is something they have done since the early days of supporting acts like The Low Anthem and Charlie Parr.

Given only a page ago I was accused of elitism, I think the reverse elitism of shitting on touring bands (who don't have label heft or marketing budget) for not selling out is pretty cheap.

Elitism alert: Looking at bands touring equivalent venues as UMO and who are selling out, I look forward to Razorlight and the Goo Goo Dolls heading next year. Make it happen Simon, it is what the festival fans are looking for.

  14. Yeah not much there to grab the attention.

Makes it an easy decision for me. Last year was a strong lineup but call me a grumpy out of towner, I really didn't get on well with the queuing and the talking. Especially in Hackney church which is an awful echo chamber and crowd noise made several of the acts inaudible.

Not to put people off, it is great value and still a fun day out + good community spirit across the venues (and decent pubs in the area).

I took it as "music for complete c**ts....fuck you" but maybe I read it wrong.

    No that's what I think of <insert your favourite band here> 😜

Okay then apologies all, if the consensus is that I came across as an elitist arsehole then it is clearly my wording. For the record, I probably am an elitist arsehole but that was not my intent here.

Let's all get back to talking about Moin.

I would counter that of all the critiques you could choose of said band, you choosing "they're music for posers who don't care about music" is a fairly childish one, and indicative of a reductive and infantile elitism that permeates this board. Just my humble opinion.

I think you are performing some mental gymnastics here. I don't mind their music though find it rather background-y. Thus my response explaining why I think it may appeal to a certain type of festival goer. Nothing to do with posers who don't care about the music.

Honest to god, always enjoy this forum and getting hyped about the festival, but some of the fart sniffing that goes on about how incredible one's subjective experience of music is makes it a hard read at times

There is a lot going on in your imagination to get from what I said to where you ended up.

Think the boygenius stuff would be a bit meh live imo.

I don't mean this disparagingly (well okay maybe a bit) but it is perfect music for those who want to sit on the grass and talk to friends, not really listening to the music.
