  2. Dance = a poor mans industrial.

I used to love loads of dance music all through my teens, right up till I hit 19. I used to love disco house, hard house, trance I'd tune into Judge Jules every week and I'd religiously buy compilation cds like the Ministry of Sound Annuals, the early Clubland ones and suchlike. I wasn't just some casual listener, my teen years were kinda awkward so I chose to make up for this by having an encyclopaedic knowledge of the genre and it's subgenres.

These days I wonder how I ever liked such drivel. I know this may sound hypocritical from someone going to V Festival but the genre is just so pedestrian! True trance music can give you a nice feeling of Euthoria but I also feel that with metal music and in particular industrial. It doesn't come close to the raw energy of some decent metal or jumping into a circle pit.

For those who don't know, industrial is kinda a mixup of rock, metal, techno, trance, drum n bass and suchlike. If Prodigy were American or perhaps German they'd come under the industrial umbrella.

Anyhow I digress. There is a lot of modern metal and hard rock that isn't very good. I'd compare it to when I was into dance music; a lot of the stuff they played on popular radio (rather the specialist shows) was pretty bad and tiresome, you'd find the good stuff if you went looking.

There's a lot of good metal out there but you have to actually go looking for it. Scandinavia are producing some top quality guitarwork, I find some of these appealing because a fair few often follow the same religion as me (Asatru). Metallica are still top notch ditto Megadeth and Motorhead. Newer bands like Deftones, Cradle of Filth, In flames and Amon Amarth certainly know how to rock too.

I've been looking through a lot of my cds and I guess a lot of them are from a few years ago. But I suppose thats a testament to their quality. I used to find with dance music that a tracks appeal wore off the more I heard it. With the albums I have now I can pretty much stick in say Metallica's master of puppets when I feel and it'll still sound as good.

  3. Green is rather easy to get to. If you head along the path in Orange you arrive at the Green and Grey entrances. I think you can also get in from the other side.

While green still gets plenty of people, there is still a fair bit of open space, you could even get a game of cricket or a kickabout going. The toilets are generally much cleaner and the water doesn't seem to run out.

  4. As I've said to you, count me in. I'd say a good name for the camp would be Camp Rivendell .

It's a bit early but doesn't hurt to make a thread about this. Even if a lot of people are in two minds about where to camp at the very least it doesn't hurt to have a backup plan. Say if some would rather camp in Orange but when they arrive it turned out to be unsuitable they could always come along and join us.

  5. I did arrive in Orange in 2006 probably about half two in the afternoon, orange camp looked full as the eye could see. I only saw one camping space (that would have fit a small two man tent) but it had a big thick tree stump over it (when I came back later someone had actually camped over it!).

The fact that last year orange camp worked was down to the simple fact of mathematics. How many people arrived on the Thursday? Five thousand, eight thousand? How many people arrive on the Friday in years with no early entry? 90% of everyone?

I'd disagree about most people being there before the crack of dawn too. Some might but even if I were to leave super early I don't see my arrival being before lunchtime at the very earliest.

Another point that was mentioned to me yesterday by another poster is the lout element that Oasis would likely bring. You went to see Oasis and saw how a chunk of the fans were, no? Well I'm sure few of us want neighbours like that. My girlfriend is coming too this year so I also have her to think about, it'll only be her second festival (after Glasto).

Last year, before the specifics of early entry were known (IE only two campsites to choose from), the most popular choices for the camp were Green and Gold.

  6. The coach will probably take you to the drop off point (pretty much where everything goes that isn't car park bound).

From there you have a bit of a walk westwards through some checkpoints till you get to the wristband exchange, then you walk southwards, as you go you pass the entrances to each of the front campsites. It doesn't sound like Red would be for you so keep walking and you should reach Yellow.

Depending on when you get there, Yellow might be a good choice (it is also where the Efest camp is). If you keep following the yellow pathway you come to Grey and Green, these two camps are quite quieter, people aren't crammed together but theres still a fair bit of atmosphere there. It is a fair distance from the arena though.

  7. Theres nothing quite like a drive to the Thatchers shop, buying a case of Thatchers and some Afterburn cheese then getting a pizza on the way home (preferably one with jalipinos, some good sausage type meat). Then when you get home you put a load of Afterburn on the pizza, cook it then have a nice evening with the pizza, a film and good amounts of cider .

I know it's not a cider but anyone else tried Afterburn cheese?

  8. With all the talk of parades lately, I thought I'd get the ball rolling with a nice non political parade that everyone can enjoy. Here is the Guinea pig parade (with commentary) <_<.

First off, we have Snuffles! His favourite food is cucumber, he enjoys long drives in the evening and hopes to play for the England Guinea pig football team once he has reached the age of two (in human years).

Next off we have pedro looking sharp in a little blue number. He enjoys evenings out in the garden and is a fully qualified mining technician. His biggist wish is for world peace and a new chew stick.

Here are sisters Trixy and Jade. They only eat the finest fresh fruit and insist that their water bottle is changed every day. Dispite this they are very down to earth and spend their free time performing charity work and taking part in fun runs.

Aww, look who it is! It's little smiley and his mum, Patch. He seems a lil shy but in private he is a right chatterbox.

    WC_Cleopatra_08.jpg

Next up we have Cleopatra. Cleo here has a fantastic white coat and loves to spend winter in Aspen, both for the social scene but also because she blends in well with the snow. We'll leave her to her lettuce.

    guinea-pig.jpg

And who do we have here? Is it a bird? Is it a Plane? No it's super Guinea! No one knows his secret identity but guinea pigkind owes a great deal to his fearless bravery! Bravo to that fine guinea, we salute you!

  9. I've had a few vague festival dreams but I can't remember them too much.

Lately I've been having driving dreams, think I dreamt about driving to Glasto. I've also kept dreaming about speed cameras (but not quite remembering it), then a few days later I find to my complete surprise that certain roads that I previously thought had one on don't have any. I'm quite a new driver btw.
