  1. Hmm, seems a regular occurance on Efests for the Glasto/Reading/V boards to be taking these kinda jabs at each other.

Now I have been to V and Glasto festival wise. For the most part a festival like Bloodstock, Download or Reading several years ago would be perfect for me so quite a few people have found my choices surprising. I do like a fair number of the bands at V and Glasto, this year and last I found Maximo Park, Muse, Alanis, Nick Cave (amazing!), Blur, Neil Young and Stereophonics extremely enjoyable.

At both V and Glasto, one thing I can say is that in general the punters looked and seemed exactly the same kinda people for the most part.

Glasto does have the perfect shell; it's size, all the different areas, things to do, reasonableish prices, friendly atmosphere, nice campfires, etc etc. The music selection is very wide but its achilles heel is naturally it's lack of anything more than medium rock. It seems among some there is almost a phobia of this type of music and the fans it would bring. However I'd put this down to ignorance and the fact that they probably haven't personally met many metalers or alternative types.

Rock Werchter does sound very appealing, as do some of the other Euro Festivals. I'd quite like to go to one on the scale of Glasto ish but where I could see the likes of Nine Inch Nails, Motorhead, Cradle of Filth, Amon Amarth etc. Alongside bands such as REM, Radiohead, Starsailor, Maximo Park, Nick Cave, etc etc.

  2. I took a rather good BNQ sack truck with pnumatic wheels. With all the scavenging we did I had to find another trolley (one for my then gf to carry the rest). I luckily found an identical trolley but yellow in a ditch, it had a sofa on it I think and also a massive bag (must have been a teepee). Unfortunately I couldn't take the big tent of wonders so I just took the sack truck, the person obviously left it because even with several people it would have been a struggle to get it all out. A passing guy helped me to take out the sack truck though.

  3. Did anyone expect any different?

I have to admit I've been to T4 On The Beach before and was not impressed.

Becuase of the wind, the sound quality was rubbish, a lot of the bands don't play properly live and all the acts only play 2 songs, 3 at the most. Plus my coach didn't turn up so I was stuck in Weston afterwards for hours on end- bloody National Express..

Glasto is a thousand times better!

  4. Well, if you wait till later in the day, only go for tents and suchlike that are open and if possible ask neighbours you can greatly minimise the risk of inadvertently stealing.

When we were out scavenging my girlfriend and I did quite a few passes of viable aquisitions, out of the one tent that we took down we revisited the area a couple of times and also waited a while to see if anyone would come.

If this is an issue that grinds peoples gears then maybe the festival should force people to take all their camping equipment with them or pack them up and take them to a few recycling points. Or at the very least strongly campaign for people not to leave things.

It was my girlfriends first festival and she was very shocked by just how wasteful people are. She also told me about how she overheard people saying how they had just brought cheap clothes for the festival and would just leave them there.

  5. Scavenging - looking for or obtaining food or other objects in other people's rubbish.

Thieving - dishonestly taking something which belongs to someone else and keeping it.

It's a fine line as many times you can't tell if someone has actually abandoned their stuff or has simply wandered off to the loo.

  6. I went scavenging with my girlfriend on the Monday night (making sure that everything was abandoned). We managed to get:

-Three (I think) man tent that was packed up and kindly left by our neighbour.

    - A two roomed six man tent, not much was left but it had an efests clashfinder inside it but was clearly abandoned.

    - A three roomed nine man tent in a massive bag.

    - Two Gazebos.

    - A solar shower.

    - A good quality sack truck to carry extra stuff.

We could barely fit it in my car .

I did however come across a snazzy popup tent that I thought a young relative would love but it was too much to carry. Same with this massive tent that was probably a teepee in it's bag.
