  1. I think you should arrive from the east side. Actually if you don't know where you're going to camp it doesn't really matter whether you arrive from the east or the west, but if you arrive from the east it'll be one less car in the queue on the west side where I'll be driving in from :D

  2. I'll be taking my Tesco value gazebo which has been used at many events now, including 2 previous Glastos, so for the £12 it cost it owes me nothing. If it's windy it might break at Glasto and if it does the poles will go in the recycling bags and the cover in the rubbish. But all being well it will return with me to live another day.

Ever since my scouting days I've always insisted that all who camp with me sweep the area before we leave for all traces of rubbish.

  3. I'm treating this year's festival as one of my stag do's and my best man has hinted that I will be required to wear a selection of dresses over the weekend. I'm not bothered though, having been going to Glastonbury for 10 years now I know I won't feel out of place, doubt I'll even get any funny looks! In fact I'm kinda looking forward to it... don't tell my fiancé though!

  4. Here's what TOS has to say on it.

The Jazz World stage has been through many incarnations, but has now firmly established its identity within the Festival. It started life as the first extra music stage after the Pyramid and was called Stage Two. The programme has evolved over the years and the stage now hosts a generous helping of jazz and a wide range of World music, and touches bass with many types of funky fusion in between. There's been a lot more hip hop there in recent years, too. The field is also home to some of the finest food stalls at the Festival. Fact.
  5. Thought I'd have a go at this. Below are the walking times in my opinion when conditions are ideal - walking (not running - chill man), daylight, you know where you're going, dry weather, no crowds. Add any of these factors and these numbers will obviously go up - as others have said, it can take an inordinate amount of time to get from place to place sometimes.

If anyone thinks I'm wildly out on this... well... do you're own one

  6. It's not a widely known thing and they specifically don't advertise this, but you can pay for your parking on the gate. At least that has been the case in the past, I don't see any reason why this wouldn't continue. So by all means help someone out who has a spare (although I believe it's technically against the Ts & Cs of the ticket purchase) but if you can't get hold of one it's probably not the end of the world.

  7. Perhaps someone could make one of these for the Glasto site:

    disttable.jpg

I would quite happily create it but being at work I have no means to get the file uploaded anywhere.

We'd only need the main areas I think, ie.

    Pyramid

    Other

    Jazz World

    JP

    The Park

    Dance Village

    Acoustic

    Glade

    Caberet/Circus

    Trash City/Shangri La

    Greenfields

    Stone Circle

    Avalon

Perhaps on one side of the table would be "without traffic" and the other "when crowded/drunk etc"

Who wants to have a go?

  8. Thanks, all good info, keep it coming - I might just point him in the direction of this thread.

I think the promise of a pre-pitched tent and minimal traffic on the way in might just swing it, we'll have to see what he says. It's a training course for a new job so he has to show willing, I know he'll love it though, just need to convince him! Dontcha just love taking virgins along? I've got 4 going with me this year and 6 old schoolers - can't wait!!

  9. Has anyone arrived on the Friday evening before? Me and most of our group are getting there Wednesday but one bloke (A Glasto Virgin too!) has a training course he has to attend that finishes at 5:30pm on the Friday. In Northampton. He's now thinking of a refund. Bad times. But I think we can persuade him that it'll still be worth arriving on Friday night. Good times.

There must be a fair number of people who don't/can't take the Friday off work and arrive on Friday evening... but the site is normally pretty much full at that point so it can't be that many? can it? So is he going to get a smooth (relatively) traffic free arrival to the site at around 8:30pm? Or will the masses that couldn't take the day off be big enough to make hours of queuing a necessity?

Personally I've had the time booked off since October as this is my stag do, so I'll be there Wednesday morning. But has anyone here arrived on the Friday?
