  1. What did you all do in the 70s - 80's when you had no mobile phones?

It'd be great if everyone were purposely cut off from the outside world for 5 days.

But then I suppose you'd get more people wanting to communicate to the people at home through the tele with their flags.

In the 80s you'd wait for a few hours at the meeting point because your pal got drunk/stoned/distracted or post a note on the board there amongst a veritable sea of similar notes and your friends would scan them all hoping for a clue as to where you'd gone.

  2. I've got the powergen, same as tommyds, had it for a couple of years. It's got a 2amp and another lower power one, can get several full charges out of it and I regularly take it on long bus or train journeys, as I'm a sad git and don't like to see my charge get too low.

  3. There are also some smaller unannounced coach resales, I got a couple last year only because someone had one of those sites to monitor the order page for changes and kindly shared it with a fb group.

One day all I saw was Glasgow and Edinburgh, the next day I managed to get a couple from London, the latter certainly were gone within about 15 minutes. We live north of Bristol so had to get a train down on the day and get to the O2, but it actually wasn't bad, certainly easier than the other two would have been.

  4. Top notch.

This is clearly a sterling effort and for an old duffer such as myself, who looks down the list and sometimes thinks "Err, who the f is that?" this is a great primer/reminder for the grey cells which have been so undone by previous years.

  5. You may need to allow a few hours to get out to the shops and back. Depending on the day and time there may be a bit of traffic :)

That's time you could be enjoying yourself otherwise, so personally I'd only consider it if there wasn't much of an alternative.

  6. I have put on two stone this year (and counting) and am the fattest I have ever been. I am really feeling the weight gain just walking around as I am getting out if breath even walking short distances. I even managed to put on weight during Glastonbury this year! None of my clothes fit anymore as I have a massive cider belly. I will be waddling round the festival at this rate. Everyone is noticing my weight gain and friends and family have been commenting. I always used to be able to eat and drink what I want but not anymore. I am officially a fatty! I am so embarassed!

Don't be so hard on yourself and no need to be embarrassed, it happens to all of us as time passes. In my case when I hit 30 my metabolism slowed down a bit and I couldn't eat and drink the same things as I used to. Then it dropped another gear when I hit 40. I found that if I gave up food I could live purely on biscuits and tea.

  7. The first couple of times I went donkeys years ago I lived in Wells, which is a similar distance from Pilton, but I was given a lift there and back.

Maybe you could try booking the taxi in advance with a local firm?

If you don't like camping you could rent a motorhome?

  8. yeah, they were different.

Which has proved only that you tried on two different IPs and were successful on one of them, but nothing about the 'why' of that.

Given what you've said, the 'success' was most likely to be due to the server load dropping because it had sold out by the time you got the connection on the 2nd IP.

  9. Just to say, I'm not discussing this because I want or expect anything to happen, just wanted to share my observations with other folks who experienced that same specific issue, which was "Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to Glastonbury.seetickets.com" or the Firefox equivalent. I stopped using IE because I didn't get to see a queue page last year in either sale or resale, but other folks on here with Chrome had not had the same issues.

This was before I disconnected it - /topic/181173-sunday-6th-sale-post-backdoor-urls-in-this-thread-if-you-get-through/page-21#entry4148761">http://www.efestivals.co.uk/forums/topic/181173-sunday-6th-sale-post-backdoor-urls-in-this-thread-if-you-get-through/page-21#entry4148761

  10. You say that you tried it after it had sold out - so it might be down to your timing, and nothing more.

I didn't see a page until after it was sold out - but with no need to re-start anything. Suddenly it just started working, very likely at the point that the word was spreading that it was sold out so people stopped trying and the load on the server came down.

You were doing quite well till that point, you'd put forwards the best argument so far and I was starting to think you might have something.

    Now however... :P

  11. Whatever happened, it will certainly make things exciting next time around.

And of course, the most important thing is being able to share your useful info with the other gimps on your local festival site :)

  12. That method only works if you know the status of what you're testing against, otherwise all you have are guesses.

I'm happy to admit that it sounds a more reasonable guess than most of the other guesses that have been made, but it's still a guess. It's not the level of proof.

From what you've said (tho there might be more that you tested that you've not said) it might have been nothing more than your router playing up, for example.

  13. I was even sad enough to have recorded the working IP, just in case you could find the non-working one in your log of my posts from before 11am, in case I needed to pass it on to them for checking their FW logs.

  14. No, you only proved that you couldn't get a response at the time you tried.

Everything else is speculation. Your speculation might be right, but it might not be either.
