depends on what mood/tone you're looking for I guess.

Data-driven, considered, constructive, calm, concise, optimistic yet realistic, avoiding nonsense and sensationalism.

They've ticked pretty much none of those boxes.

Didn't this used to just be called spending a day at home?

Indeed. Nothing wrong with spending time with family, obviously. But "lockdown" is such a loaded and horrible term.

Franz Ferdinand 0 (-10) bye bye Frankie

Have to say I'm a little surprised they've gone so early. Don't get me wrong, I've barely listened to them in years, but they seem the perfect sort for a mid-afternoon festival set - plenty of easy crowd-pleasing dancealong songs.

Deepti Gurdasani isn’t even in fake SAGE, she’s a pure rent a gob. How batshit mental do you need to be when even fake SAGE think you’re too much of a doomer?

Gonna say - pretty low to not even get into a made up, childish organisation.

Anyone catch the fake FA’s video the other day, about playing football on the moon?

I read last week that while the plan when the roadmap was announced was to allow indoor mixing under the rule of 6 from 17th May, ministers were reviewing whether that 6 person limit was necessary.

So I wonder if we could see a slightly larger limit of 10/12/15

    I really, really hope so.

Meant to be going on holiday with extended family in early June (9 of us) and it’s still all in limbo which feels ridiculous, given the comparative risks associated compared to other things we can do from 17th May.

It’s pretty well established all round. The WHO will be lost to move as usual, like they did with Masks and Airborne Transmission. But they aren’t the ultimate arbiter. We can all see the data.

    This.

The WHO have just updated their advice to suggest the virus is airborne. We knew this over half a year ago.

I’m not saying they’re idiots, but they are very, very slow on updating guidance, so I wouldn’t go based on what they say.

WHO only just admitted it can be transmitted by air. It's definitely not unknown, there's tonnes of evidence.

Yeah think vaccines cutting infection and transmission is hardly news by now. They definitely do.

Anyone with any doubts should look at Israel over the past few months.

Very sensible and balanced thread about the Indian variant, put my mind at ease for the weekend

He's been superb throughout - calm, concise, considered, sticks to the data.

    Very refreshing...

It's interesting in that clearly their strategy has worked in suppressing / eliminating the virus and it's no doubt the extra freedoms this has allowed citizens is much more palatable compared to what most of the rest of the world has endured.

You'd think there will come a point however when mood may swing due to the restricting rules of not being able to leave the country whilst potentially watching many other countries returning to free movement?

My sister said the vaccination programme in Western Australia is dire and very slow moving.

That mood swing would then cause thousands of deaths. They are genuinely in a very tricky spot politically now.

Whilst I get it, I’m pretty gutted if sports grounds can’t get much beyond 25-50% capacity by mid summer.

As long as they can be full come the start of next season. (Brighton season ticket holder)

I was taking R as 4 to be the R rate of the Kent variant in a UK under no restrictions (because that was the context we were discussing herd immunity in).

But also based on no immunity, right?

(It's obviously not an R of 4 now with no restrictions, due to the very high level of immunity we have.)

  14. 11 minutes ago, DeanoL said:

R is 4 in this variant, so uncontrolled the average person will pass it on to 4 other people.

Surely this assumption is based on an 100% susceptible population, which hasn't been the case since around December 2019?

Apologies if I have read/understood your workings incorrectly.

Feel like I've already heard the entire new Royal Blood album just by having Absolute Radio on in the background...

I have heard it - it's by far the best thing they've done. AC/DC meets Daft Punk is an apt descriptor. I can see it being massive.

Oblivion, Million and One and Either You Got It probably the highlights, along with Boilermaker - production on that is huge.

All We Have Is Now is also a nice ...Like Clockwork-esque closer.

He’s gonna have a lot of shit on him and is gonna be a niggle that will keep dropping bits of info ... they might just decide it needs to stop ... because an ongoing drop might start damaging the party as well as spaffer

Yeah that's it. It won't be about Johnson - it'll be if it starts to do badly for the party as a whole.

I also wouldn't want any of my friends as PM. They'd be awful. Not that that disqualifies you these days

This. Despite my political leanings, I probably would enjoy a pint in the pub with Johnson more than with Corbyn or possibly even Starmer. That doesn't mean I want him running my country, you fucking lunatics (Johnson voters...)

If this is provable then this is very serious, I’d agree with the SNP that he would have to resign. No leader of a country could say something like this at any time. It also makes his slow actions in December make more sense now.

I'd agree with you, pre-Trump. I'm just not sure where the line is anymore, in terms of what might force a resignation. This cabinet seem unwilling to ever show integrity with regards that sort of thing.
