I’m not sure why people are fretting about the game. It’s going to be 0-0 after extra time and then we’ll lose on penalties.

Southgate will talk about his fantastic defensive achievement of not conceding a goal while the rest of us wonder why we didn’t try to use any of our many attacking players in the attacking style that they are used to playing with their respective clubs.

We've won both our penalty shoot outs with Southgate in charge, so not so certain we'd even lose then. He seems to have us in a very good place mentally.

For the first time in a long time we actually look like a tournament team with a plan, rather than just trying to chuck all the best players in at once (Gerrard-Lampard-Scholes, anyone?) and hoping it works.

So many people are calling for us to play 3 number 10s and Kane dropping into number 10 area, it would be an utter shambles and we'd get spanked.

  2. I honestly think if the players don't let the occasion get to them mentally, we can (and maybe even should) win tomorrow.

Trying to take emotion out and look at it in a logical and detached way.

    Team A

Got through their group comfortably, without conceding a single goal - weren't even carved open once, as far as I can remember.

Playing at home to 45k fans, where they are unbeaten in 9 (think it is?).

Conceded 5 goals in last 17 games (mad stat)

    Team B

Haven't kept a clean sheet in 6 games.

Looked slightly shambolic in their final group game and just snuck through in the final 10 minutes.

    ---

Which team should be favourites to win?

  3. Anyone else feel like shit's gotten real VERY quickly in this tournament??

Due to pretty much no big sides out in the Group stage, it felt like there was very little jeopardy - the big sides all survived Group F in the end, everyone else you'd expect to go through went through.

Then suddenly BANG - Holland and Portugal both out within hours of each other.

Really enjoying the tournament but also shitting myself about tomorrow.

TBH as and when it gets to that I'm sure I can negotiate something.....I've said I'll give up other festivals but not Glastonbury!

Suppose its not just the money its as Hugh Jass says its the time on their own and looking after them.

Yeah money is tighter now with kids, no doubt, but I'd say it's more about time management - you can use certain tactics to gain credit in the bank sometimes though...

I probably wouldn't be able to get away with anything if we had kids.

She's already told me to forget festivals if we get to that stage.... 😮

I have one child (3 year old, with another on the way), definitely do less gigs (but got one in August planned) and still just about managing it as a Brighton STH, although once we have 2 I think there will be pressure on me to give it up.

Although she perfectly happy for me to start taking the 3 year old to the Amex once he's old enough for the Family Stand.

  6. This has gone far more too my liking than the headliners thread did. Not sure what that says about my taste.

A little surprised that Bloc Party are still there. Thought they were very exciting, vital even on debut but have dated pretty horribly.

I'm talking about how the public can directly influence the govts choices. If there's fewer positive tests it gets difficult for the govt to have restrictions because of the virus spreading. its a direct intravention into the process which isn't possible in any other way.j Joe public can't decide that he's not going to get infected but he can decide how much his infection feeds into the rest of what happens.

Fewer tests is fewer positive results which is less need for lockdown measures.

It's not a perfect intravention into the process but it does influence the data which influences the measures decided via the data.

Of course doing that would mean more undetected spread of the virus which would lead to more hospitalisations and therefore more need for lockdown measures - self defeating tactic, methinks.

  8. Bit disappointed by the 2 singles (Your Power, Lost Cause) so far. Feel a bit low effort compared to the fantastic debut album.

Quite liked Therefore I Am and Everything I Wanted, and thought My Future was great once I got past the 90s production.

  9. Advice required.

I currently have a stinking head cold. I'm due for my jab tomorrow. I remember my son being dreadful when he had one of his vaccinations whilst having a cold - should I postpone my jab by a week or so, or "man up" and ride it out?

    A selection of my favourites

Therefore I Am, ilomilo, when the party’s over, Idontwanttobeyouanymore, my boy, bellyache, COPYCAT, watch, my strange addiction.

some deeper cuts but very good tracks imo

Yep almost exactly my list of best songs.

ilomilo is one of my favourite tracks of the past 5 years - the production work alone is just stunning.

Oh I get that. By all the agreed counts she's up there. But I personally can't get my head around it. And I know I'm wrong 😄

The thing I struggle with most (and I'd put Jorja Smith in the same category tbh) is that's not a style of music I can imagine headlining.  All a bit subdued y'know? Bad Guy aside, which is a banger.

But I know I don't have a clue, so when they do end up on top I'll nod, smile, and bugger off to watch something that's more to my taste!

    Fair enough.

I feel like Bad Guy is gonna end up as her "Creep". Genuinely one of my least favourite of her 25-30 songs.

Throwaway catchy "fun" song but she's done far better, more interesting work IMO (and just like Radiohead with Creep, she and her brother think so too!)

    What's that?

Seems to have been deleted now. @BristOliver was referring to a tweet about one of pretend sage's people being on Sky News confirming that the Indian variant completely evades the vaccines.

Apologies. Do get various shills mixed up with each other.

She insisted there would definitely be a spike when all classes returned at the same time, including backing this up fancy charts and forecasts to back up her claims. She demanded it was to be gradual or we would be back to where we were again. And the reality was that she couldn’t have been more wrong.

She has been consistently and dangerously wrong throughout.
