Guys, its February already and everything is still looking bleak as fuck. How can anyone still expect 2021 Primavera to happen? Vaccination has not speeded up in continental Europe at all and even the current best case scenario wouldn't make Primavera a possibility. Not accounting for the fact that the september dates are pure speculation.

I've read somewhere that needed rate of global vaccinated population which is 70% won't happen until 2025.

Nice to hear it! But don't forget, most of us also thought so about this year last Summer.

The situation will be the same until the April 2022 at least and I think that 2023 festivals will be in ( of course if they'll survive ).

I'm not sure about Sziget future honestly.

Can't assume that. A lot depends on how the vaccine rollout happens, and there are also issues around more infectious variants. There are difficult decisions being made around the double-dose vaccines, and whether or not to use the doses to give more people single doses instead. If we get it right, we get ahead of the infection rates. If it's wrong, we run the risk of helping more infectious strains to evolve.

That said, I'm cautiously optimistic but that's all. 50/50 at best.

What about this new Japanese type of virus? Don't wanna be pessimistic but they are not sure if vaccine is proper against this type.

As someone wrote above, really hard to imagine anything happening in the early summer. Still some small chance for late August or September, but even that one I would put at around 20% the best. If we are being real, can anyone here imagine any government giving green light to 50,000 or 70,000 people without any distances, smashed together in a field, with tons of international concert goers freely travelling all over the world to shows. Just cant imagine that in 6-7 months from now. Shows will definitely return in 2021., it will be way better than 2020., some with social distance, some with smaller capacities etc. But unfortunately any massive big name summer festival can only take place if all systems are go and they can function at 100% cap.

And that will, I think, happen in 2022. at earliest.

Remember just winter test for clubs, all clubs are closed and most countries are in lockdown now.

Think it'll be almost the same in January/February.

Why if? There's in face a safe, working vaccine. More than one.

I live in this part of Europe and we won't get vaccinated until this time of the period, sad short story.

And if we EVER get vaccineted cuz strong anti vaccine movement is here.

In the end take a look at the UK, it looks like there is a new type of the virus, so maybe the vaccine won't be effective enough in general.

Just out of curiosity, if tickets for Sziget went on sale tomorrow would you buy one?

From my p.o.v, I have the flights booked (on the assumption of 4-11 Aug) and accommodation booked.

The flights were carried over from this year and the accommodation is refundable until July '21 so I've not really spent that much so far.

However, for five of us it would be an outlay of around £1350 on tickets and I can't really afford to lose that, so would probably hang on until the festival was guaranteed to take place before buying tickets.

Which, for cash flow purposes, isn't that great for the festival if lots of people choose that route.

Nope, too risky+ I'm not in a good financial situation right now.

I'm still sceptical about massive testing, can't afford to lose money if I'll be tested postive

Hope that spring will be better.

They will. Sziget is in 9 months now, it can not be cancelled that early, especially considering every single other fest' has announced their date + many names. Including August festivals like Reading. Plus, they really are looking for solutions in England (massive tests etc..) so it is way to early to consider Sziget is not going to happen.

But I have to say, I'm a bit surprised, even upset, by this total absence of communication. Im looking at French, Germans, English, Swedih etc... festivals, and they ALL already gave something to their fans. This lack of consideration is somehow disappointing, coming from one of the tallest fest' in Europe .. 😕

    Hope that too.

They have a really bad PR, sorry to tell.

2020 festival got announced on the 5th November last year, Hopefully it will not be long before dates.

I know it's not popular opinion, but living in this part of Europe and situation here is really bad, so I'm not sure they'll announce anything this year :(

So basically they are going to make people that work in music industry poor and homeless, this is far more concerning that me not going to a festival, can they really do this, i mean it's obvious that now there are priorities but they can't even let an entire sector completely die

Feel sorry for those people, but think that this sector will start working last

Euro 2021 will happen, and they dont depend that much on ticket sales / people in the stadium. TV rights / advertising money is the biggest thing, and they can do it with 0 people in the stadium (like NBA, or most of baseball etc), or they can do it with limited capacity, like 20% of stadiums full (like currently most of American football season).

Most of that doesnt apply for music festivals, as they can only operate with 100% full capacity. And I really cant see how can anyone fill their fields, stadiums, arenas etc up to 100% capacity next June.

Agree, festivals and Euro aren't the same thing, they can be hold even without public

Let me start it off for y'all...

Blur - Daft Punk - Thom Yorke - The Cure
Sigur Rose - Stone Roses - Modest Mouse - Neu! (sort of reunion) New Order - Robyn
Belle And Sebastian - Zeal & Ardor - Lykke Li - Shame - dEUS - The Notwist

Off Monsters and Men instead of Modest Mouse

Good List, but some of the acts on list are LA based (Lykke Li)

Foals played passionate set with a lot of good energy back in PS2014, while Strokes performed poorly in PS2015 (probably one of , if not, the worst performance I've seen in Primavera Sound).

The Voidz and Albert performed at the same PS and it's well known that at that time all members were more focused on their side projects.

Now the situation within the bend is better, but again they had poor performance in Ohana last year, so it depends again on their mood.

As much as I love the Strokes, wouldn't consider them irreplaceable today.

And what about Celine Dion instead of Beck? Please...

You are mixing apples and oranges, what has Celine in common with Beck except they are both solo acts?

But you can't say the same for Foals and The Strokes, they are coming from the same genere and may ppl listen to both of the bands, so I don't see a huge deal here. I'm not talking about the quality here cuz you are trying to find an equal European replacement who are on tour in the next year and Foals are one of them. Sure Arctic Monkeys are better replacement, but we don't know nothing except Helders is now solo in the studio which could posssible mean that the new album will be out the next years and possibly the tour.

Maybe you can put The 1975 instead or Liam Gallagher according to the size of an act? I know that The Strokes are good selling act but hey they are mostly playing first three albums so you can find a replacement even with the Libertines maybe?

For a couple of months honestly I can't see US bands in Europe as well as Kevin Parker escaping Australian lockdown, so the only solution is to find the proper European one. Even Kevin Parker pushed back the tour for August, so not very likely in Europe at that time.

We will wait and see, i can't see mass testing at a festival like sziget. What's stopping you getting the virus from a negative test in Budapest to the festival grounds?

True, you can test negative and after couple of days postive

I wonder if they are just waiting to see what happens, none of the big festivals in Hungry have announced anything since the postponed events. Balton Sound, Volt and Sziget have been all quiet and nothing about 2021.

I expect we will know by Christmas.

Probably they are waiting, hope until Christmas at least too.

Now to Mogwai dates - 4.5 months

From Mogwai dates to Primavera - 3.5 months

Almost twice as far away in time!

Am increasingly convinced a combination of cheap & quick-result mass testing, the controlled nature of who can enter, the outdoors aspect, favourable weather, and a reasonable level of vaccine implementation by June will allow the event to go ahead. Plenty of US bands to cancel admittedly amid some travel restrictions/difficulties/fear of touring losses but event to still be full of enthusiastic Europeans gagging for festival good times by then.

Would say not plenty, but most of them. They had enthusiasm couple of months ago, now it seems like they totally lost it.

Mogwai is the best example, thou they are European.
