I love how someone asked the other day if this thread would get to 400 pages before the announcement.

Now we have two Radiohead threads and this one is about to 'creep' over to 393 with days in hand.

I might be wrong but I think we'll be lucky to get there there.

Original poster: It's too hard to keep up with Radiohead at Glastonbury news in the other thread, what's the deal?

Effects: Have 6 pages of debate about sexism in music

"6 pages of debate about sexism in music" is the perfect thing to follow "5 Pablo Honey".

Never mind jacket potatoes, what about a giant Yorkshire pudding with beans and cheese in it. There can surely be no other nation on earth where people would willingly eat such a creation

Hey, let's try to keep this thread on topic! :)

Seems like there's gonna be a fairly decent efestivals contingent in JP for SR, from reading this.

I'll be in the JP tent with you if it's raining, or at WH for Underworld if it isn't.  Yes, I'm that fickle!

Either 2004 or 2005.  I think it was 2004, the year I got severe sunburn from being an idiot after drinking said 2 litre bottle.

i think it was 05, i bought two bottles when they opened, (i hadn't been to sleep and fancied cider for breakfast so sat outside for an hour waiting for them to open. I have a picture some where) went back to the tent drank one and passed out. woke up fancied another went back and they said they had to stop. They said it was to promote responsible drinking.

I'd have said 2007 or maybe even 2008.  A friend of mine remembers them and I'm pretty sure 2007 was his first year there.

Yes, and I expect you could have 'Tutti Frutti with hint of Lime and Coconut' if you were particularly persuasive and / or wanted to throw up :D

    That does sound disgusting!

Being particularly persuasive was great at the Brothers Bar that year they sent out the free pint tokens.   "May I keep it as a souvenir please?  Oh no, of course I won't use it again!"

Yep, they've done that for a few years now - pour (plain, festival-strength) cider into cup, add squirt of flavour syrup, serve.

It does mean that you get stronger cider (because the flavours in the bottles and cans aren't festival strength) but I concur on the sugar syrup falling to the bottom - it was grim, especially if you didn't drink it quick enough.

But once you knew, you could request how much flavour got added. I occasionally had a "hint of strawberry".

  11. Last Wednesday night

Well we got there in our car

Made a beeline for the bar

Things we saw were so bizarre

    Last Wednesday night

Had a wander in the park

    Really drunk before it's dark

Just be sure to dodge the Narc

    This Wednesday night

    Do it all again

the best I've ever seen them that set was incredible - I'm not sure the 2nd encore was intended - I could see the band walking away, then they heard the crowd and came back

I must admit, they lost something for me when Devlin left.  But I've only seen them once in the post-Devlin form, perhaps I should give them another shot...

I was wondering, have they ever had anyone play a live set at Arcadia at Glastonbury? I'm guessing it might be too much of a faff, as they'd have to set up different equipment, rather than the seamless transition from DJ to DJ that they have now. Just thinking that there would be a few people who would be amazing playing live from the heart of the spider...

I don't know for sure if they've had live acts, but Arcadia has changed over the years, and it did used to have a stage, so if be surprised if they'd never had a live act.

They certainly had live acts while it was down in the SE corner... I remember seeing Freeland play it back in 2009.  Maybe they stopped when they moved it into the main body of the festival though?

  14. Hi Alban,

Sorry to see you've been bombarded with all these non-problems... hopefully you can fix mine for me though.

My issue is that when I'm quite near the front of a festival crowd the noise level from the music makes it difficult for me to have a conversation with my friends. At the moment we have a bit of a workaround involving repeatedly shouting at each other, but it takes ages to cover a topic as simple as that video of a cat I saw on facebook earlier today.

I don't know if it's appropriate to solutionize here, but perhaps some sort of signalling system so the band could see I was talking and keep it down a bit until I'd finished?

    Thanks!

  15.

EDIT: And get your friends to try from their home/work, so the requests are all coming from different IP addresses.

(An IP address, in my analogy, is the combination of house number and postcode - it uniquely identifies you. So if there is any filtering based on IP, all those requests from other places are treated as different, giving you more of a chance.)

OK. So given I'm going to be trying on friends' wifi, and that they'll be trying as well... I wonder if I should fire up my VPN and connect through there?

  16. But doesn't having your own van so you don't have to bunk down with the commoners amount to the same thing? Just playing devil's advocate like. I couldn't afford glamping and neither could I afford a camper van. Doesn't bother me if other people can; I just don't see the difference. Other than the fact lots of senior members of Efestivals have campers.

It does amount to the same thing. But only once the facilities in the owned campervan pass an arbitrary and blurry point whereby they become too luxurious for our liking.

Basically, if "we" buy a campervan then that's legitimate use.  However, if "they" buy one then they're egotistic knobs who shouldn't even be allowed into Somerset.

  17. Yes, which is why a lot of people want to see the end of booking mega star headliners and scaling back areas like the SE corner to allow ticket prices to be lowered and make the festival more accessible.

Now that's a concept I could get behind.
