We left Dublin at around 9am... think it was 7:30pm by the time we got into the car park (for anyone else reading that's normally a 2 hour drive). We then ended up in the overflow campsite and which was polluted with wasps...

That said, was still a great festival. Roll on July!

Jeez, that's grim alright. We live in Antrim so stayed overnight in Naas and got to the carpark for 10.30am - was still TWO HOURS on that Lane of Wasps before getting a sniff of the wristband exchange. We have friends that drove on the morning from Down, 12 hours total, putting their tent up in darkness. Breakfast calzones and seeing Patti Smith twice more than made up for any logistical problems we may have had. And how great to see the Arcadia Afterburner after so many years!

It's a shame alright but John did set up a new festival in 2018 - All Together Now - which incorporated his vision. It's inaugural year was a flying success but John then tragically passed away shortly after. It was obvious for 2019 that the festival had lost it's leader as it was marred with problems. Nature also unfortunately went against them with horrible weather and weirdly, a wasp infestation too.

Covid has delayed the 3rd edition but hopefully it has given them time to get things on track again.

That lower campsite was relatively wasp free. The queue up that lane to get to the wristband exchange was insane though, and we'd beaten the traffic problems. Some food vendors had run out of grub by early Sunday evening. The Sunday weather was apocalyptic rain for much of the afternoon. Can't wait to go back all the same, 2nd wave announcement on Wednesday 😂

Sometimes we forget that Glastonbury is the exception. Pretty much every other festival I've been to has some sort of central "arena" where all of the entertainment is and you camp outside of that. None of them let you take your own booze and whatnot in (the old Bestival was at least very lapse in how strongly they enforced this).

And the 'arena' areas are all too often expanding. At Electric Picnic, there used to be areas where you could BYO, various stages throughout the forest and such like. These have fallen away in recent years as the main arena expands. Annual traditions like meeting up with fellow veterans and having a sing-a-long to These Charming Men  with a bag of cans aren't quite the same.

  4. A Tuesday opening at WV would be quite handy for us actually. Is it just the Car Park or the actual campsite though?

We're planning to taxi it across from Bristol - Worthy View, does anyone know if drop-offs are allowed?

Ah nice one! Hadn't heard of the Beyond the Pale one - must check it out.

The 4 of us going are losing our festival virginity with Glasto this year (excluding a small time festival local to us years ago called Pig Stock). May as well start with the ultimate festival!

I remember Pigstock, it was actually quite close to where I'm originally from in Down. Beyond the Pale looks decent, it's in a country park with a 5,000 capacity. Seems to be the way of it, Body & Soul have downsized to that number as well.

Got one in the resale or else I would have booked it a long time ago!

Our flight out on Tuesday evening is fairly cheap at least. The above includes 23kg of luggage there and back too, so that adds up.

Ah, lethal man - same as us! Been a miserable couple of ticketless years, eh? I mean we even went and booked Beyond the Pale, that new festival in Wicklow for this June thinking we hadn't a mission in the resale. So we've four festivals this year now 😂

    Booked flights!

£250 return from Belfast to Bristol - dear enough! Got stung on the cost of the flight home on the Monday evening.

I must check the 2019 prices, although we booked much earlier in the year for that. Think ours were around that for Tuesday - Tuesday. Did you have a festival ticket already, or did you get in on the resale?

Not a link to a deal but defo an essential for me.

If you've a small tent (or even if you don't) - a poncho towel is a real winner.

Sticking one of these on over your smalls and just chilling outside your tent in the morning sun - coffee in hand - is a dream. A great way to start the day.

Adult Surf Poncho 500 OLAIAN - Decathlon

Just imagining dandering through Hendrix/Warhol in one of those yokes 😂

Lmao this is so spot on. @Ddiamonddheard anything about the Glade getting binned? Would be a crazy decision imo.

Mixmaster Morris said on his Facebook last night that he's playing Glade Lounge and Shanrgi'La.

Booked hotels in Bristol either side of the festival - its good to be nice to yourself.

We've done that too, out of necessity rather than comfort - easyJet were looking £808 for return flights Wednesday - Monday. Will be nice to have that extra recovery time, and won't be the usual mad scramble from the airport as we didn't get Coach Tickets this time.

  11. Unmissable. Last saw her at Electric Picnic in Ireland in 2019, so glad I'm getting a chance to see her again. Her show in Dublin's Olympia Theatre sold out in a couple of hours. Hoping she'll turn up at All Together Now Festival in Waterford this year too.

The Crooked Machine Remixes album is sublime!

Aha! Magic. Nice one. I thought about it but didn't include the screenshot here because it had a real name on it., Very glad I made that decision 🙂

My first memory of Mixmaster Morris at Glastonbury was 93/94ish, him playing upstairs on a double decker bus somewhere on site (it's a bit fuzzy), was about the time he did that Dreamfish stuff with Pete Namlook

Nice one! We've met him a few times about the site, most recently in 2017 when he'd lost his "luggage and me pals!" at West Holts in the crowds. My partner was able help him locate both. He's a very civil fella, looking forward to hearing him!
