I've been disappointed by quite a few hip-hop acts at Glastonbury, including Wu Tang, as it often doesn't translate well to a big field.  Two performances stand out though: Public Enemy, who were well worth walking away from the Rolling Stones for, and Deltron 3030, which was the best performance I've ever seen at Glastonbury.  So in the spirit of starting poorly-evidence special guest rumours on here...  'Hieroglyphics' are playing in Falmouth on June 2nd, so that puts Del the Funky Homosapien (as well as the rest of Souls of MIschief) in the Westcountry at roughly the right time...

I dunno, I've enjoyed a fair few sets on the Pyramid and West Holts and other large outdoor performances. Wu Tang were prob the weakest of the bunch but I still enjoyed them a lot. De La Soul were brilliant in 2014 in the middle of the day. I thought RTJ on Pyramid were also great, prob my fave gig of the whole weekend although I counted them as my favourite artist at the time and I was on the barrier which prob added to it all. Snoop was also fantastic in 2010 on the Pyramid. They all had the crowd in the palm of their hands. J5, Q-Tip, Big Boi, Brother Ali were all class on WH. Dizzee Rascal in 2017 were our Friday night headliner and his show was insane, well worth ditching Radiohead for.

EDIT: Actually the only time I've been disappointed - to the point of walking away, was Earl Sweatshirt last year in Silver Hayes. He acted like he wanted to get away as quickly as possible.

Oxlyers is flat as a pancake but you’ll be woken up by the Other Stage sound testing every morning. Which gate are you coming in from? Try Bushy or Dairy if you’re Gate A or D?

I love a sound test waking me up in the morning. It's like a summons to get out of bed and start exploring.

Love the obsession, clashfinder is my favourite website ever

Personally I go for a traffic light system (red gets used for bands I dislike but friends want to see), green is most likely I will catch, and then go for 2-3 purples over the weekend that are ‘must see’ acts

This is the best system and I will hear no arguments, but I love the devotion to highlighting every single act!

They played Shangri La at about 3am in 2022, which will again be insane.

I’m hoping they’ll get a slot on one of the main stages too.

Would be class if they got a chance somewhere else. Not sure they're big enough though just yet?

Yeah that clash would be a pain for me too 🙁 especially annoying as it looks like before then there isn't a lot on I'd be interested in.

Yeah, the blandness in the slot before (Keane, Sugarbabes, Bombay) is pretty lacking on the main stages thus far. I would've thought PJH would be better as a headline on Woodsies as well tbh instead of Gossip too.

  6. So, I'm curious. There's already a looooooooong dance thread, a "guitarry" thread on rock and indie, but not seen one for hip hop and rap for 2024.

Danny Brown on West Holts would be an almost must-see for me. Lil Simz on Pyramid is an obvious one. Bobby Vylan is amazing and on Shangri La.

Anyone got any tips for artists already playing across the released line-up drops or hopefuls to be released at a later date?

  7. The Danny Brown-PJ Harvey clash is a horrible prospect.

PJ's show is superb, but the chance to see some brilliant alternative hip hop... it's a close call.

Solid line-up for the WH in general too.

I would love nick cave to play but I'm not expecting it. I don't think we can say the chances are extremely high.

Not that it is particularly relevant but I don't think Micheal Eavis likes him. Seem to remember reading somewhere that he didn't want him back at the festival (he has played the pyramid since I read that for sure).

Sorry, I have actually no idea or intel or anything. It was my attempt at parodying common eFest tropes... 😅

Altho, I had no idea ME didn't think too much of the Cave, would be curious as to why!

Haha, normally just 1 = deffo, 2 = maybe, 3 = they're at victorious so don't need to see (saves me having to cross-reference multiple clashfinders at the fest).

Then I import my husband's clashfinder highlights, which are usually 1 = deffo, 2 = probably, 3 = maybe, so I end up with a 6 colour system.

Mmmm. Crossreferencing against another festival and against your partners.

You've left colour-coding world and gone into the Clashfinder-multiverse.

    Red = Skip

Purple =  1 - Wouldn't walk away if I were having a good time and nothing else critical

    Blue/Purple = 2

    Blue = 3

    Green/Blue = 4

    Green = 5 - Can't miss.

This is next level colour-coding. It's similar to mine though. I just use blue for 'wouldn't walk away if it was fun' to 'would be interested if nothing else was on'.

I'd be curious what your final Clashfinder is like come June, esp as we had some crossover last year!

I'm also really cool, so I use a spreadsheet to note down my ratings (must-sees, nice-to-sees and can see at a less clashy festival so don't prioritise seeing at glasto), then put them in the clashfinder once halvin's got all the timings in there.

What kind of ratings are we talking here?

Marks out of 5 or 10? Not out of 6, surely? Percentages? Stars?!?!

i have mixed feelings about these guys...

it was either '97 or '98 i was going up to the stone circle and i stopped at their stall on the way and asked them if i could please have a bin bag (to sit on cos of all the mud).

they said: sure man, of course you can - dance for it.

and i did. i danced for a bin bag.

it was a long time ago, but it makes me feel dirty every time i think about it, to have stooped to such a level, and my crew have never let me forget it.

(in my, sort of, defense - i used to do a shitload of drugs back then and i was off my face at the time... but still...)

Sounds like something Super Hans would make Jez do for a toke on a spliff, lol.

"Dance Jez, dance like you mean it!"

20 mins average according to this. My team have gone for it, seems like fantastic value for the showers and pitch alone, anything else is a bonus.  Watch now as it somehow turns into mini Fyre festival 😅

Think these times need to be updated tbh. Other to the Pyramid took about 45 minutes after Fred, lol. Pyramid to WH in 10 minutes? Maybe if the site is dead with no turnover, which during the bulk of Fri-Sun it won't be.

Would appreciate one of them putting on the SEC/ Glade onto clashfinder.

Because I'm really cool I tend to use a colour coded system to try and go through all the acts and rate the ones I want to see/ avoid etc. So I don't need them in the right order, but just on the system haha

I am also team colour-code. Red for avoid, blue for interested, green for must-see, lol. And I'm not even going! I find it such a useful tool for finding new music.

Silver Hayes have confirmed they are releasing theirs next week, so I’m thinking Park and Silver Hayes next week. Nothing today.

Oh yeah, I saw SH was coming next week actually. Another dance area. I would think they'd mix it up with either Woodsies or Park on the Monday, SH on the Friday.

    What are the chances tho?

His Wild God Tour doesn't start until September in Germany.

So, he is in the neighbourhood and from now until September he has one mother of a Glastonbury shaped hole.

    Chances are extremely high.

Bruce Springsteen coming out with Macca was a wow moment for me, gotta be said.

And that's fair enough. For some it's a huge moment, to others it's a bit meh.

Completely depends on the artists involved and your own particular tastes.

I am bored of special guests now.

why do they feel the need to bring someone on

just sing your  f**king own songs,

the money it mnust costy to pay for a speacial guest , surely just spend that money on getting better bands than cold play

I'm kind of on the fence about it. Tbh, I've never seen a special guest and been starstruck on the Pyramid.

I would've had just a good a time at Elton if none of his special guests had come out. Didn't give a sh*t either when Grohl came out for GnR.

But then, that's probably because I'm not huge fans of those particular performers either. However, if De La Soul were performing and someone like Q-Tip had come out, I'd of been a lot more interested. Or if Sault were playing and Andre 3000 came out, I'd like that a lot.

Some of the long drops don’t clang shut anymore. That’s really disconcerting.

I noticed that. I had to go back and clang it or it just didn't feel right.

"If you long drop and there is no clang, did you even drop long?"

no it wouldnt be widely used because i only ever experienced it at glasto and as alluded to it doesn't happen any more. but just so you know a 'mexican wave' is well known to be a collective hand movement. so if you say 'lets start a mexican wave' in a crowd and shout aaaaahhhhhhhh you might get some funny looks. because thats not what a mexican wave is.

I've experienced something similar at Reading Festival where everyone was just shouting "BOLLOCKS!" at the top of their voices on the first days, but I'd never heard it called a Mexican Rave. Not saying it's not known as that though. When I started going Glastonbury, I don't remember it being as prominent as at Reading, prob because there's more to do on the Weds and Thurs, whereas at Reading it was like every hour or so and got real old, real fast.
