Turns out a friend's VIP ticket purchase was rejected by his credit card unknowingly which has left him distraught. If anyone ends up with one extra or hears of one going, please let me know.
I've posted on here quite a lot. Would be hugely appreciated...

I agree, I think the strength of the Barcelona headliners will have the sad effect of leaving Porto a bit barren.

Judging by social media responses and things I've noticed and heard, I'm guessing they just aren't booked.
Who else dropped out besides Bjork, Fiona Apple, Death Cab?
I see, thanks.
Off the top of my head Eels, Diiv, Foxygen, El-P, Death Grips, Rodrigez...

Actually, come to think about it, they'd aready started alternating them by 2014...
-
2 main stages alternate to avoid soundbleed.
The Park gigs in the heart of the city are moving, by the look of things, to the Macba in the Raval (not too far away) and hopefully still outdoors.

To reduce counterfeiting.

If there on Wednesday - get in town at one of the Raval gigs or at the Forum for Suede (I think)
If there on Thursday - GET THERE EARLY! - queue will be really bad later with LCD S, Tame Impala, Air etc playing. Get there around 4/5pm and it will be a breeze. Can always leave the site and come back later...
And yes you get a wristband and card. Need to look after both.

Music is more or less 5pm-5am. Headliners (and takes time to get head round this) on at about 1am. Sometimes an hour or so earlier or later.

Thanks for your help once again Calaix!
anything around 40min walk or less would do fine. Yeah I've just looked on airbnb and found a great place, thanks for the help
Great! Better a long walk and a singsong on the way home than having to fight the crowds for a bus/taxi!

I don't think there are any a walking distance away that are affordable, assuming you mean a smaller budget. Poblenou your best bet if you have a budget more in the range of 100 euros/night and it is also a charming little area by the beach.
Much more options in town and I would focus on somewhere on the L4/Yellow line so you can take the metro directly into the fest. It also runs all night on Saturday so easier getting back that night.

That doesn't make sense. Why hold back a band as only a potential replacement when they haven't toured in 20 years instead one of the many bands that was just there the last couple years? More likely they just weren't booked.
I agree it's unlikely but it's what I would do as organiser. Imagine a scenario:
One of the 9 or 10 'headliners' pulls out. Quite likely (look at Fiona Apple, Bjork etc). Huge cries to replace them with equally big acts. Impossible to do this at this late juncture. So announce Lush - an exciting(ish) revival and and people relatively appeased. Or one of the 10 or so second-tiers pulls out and Lush a very nice instant replacement. Or if no-one pulls out, announce them late like a Ratatat. In summary, an ace up PV's sleeve.
Or maybe they couldn't get good headlners for Porto so offering Lush as exclusive for them to placate Porto people.
Or maybe Heineken have put a lot of money into the Hidden Stage this year and Lush to be their big name.
Lots of 'or's!

ok, if it was't sarcasm: how ist something 'strange' if your're able explain it right in the next sentence?
It was writing as a stream of consciousness. I agreed with you it was strange. And then the more I thought about it, the more I realised that a large ensemble of people might not be able to make it to Barcelona for a fixed date, irrespective of the opportunity and money. You might call it stating the obvious but I wrote to express my thought that bands are just people subject to the same pressures of life.
I don't use sarcasm to people I don't know unless someone had said something particularly idiotic or provocative.
Your comment was completely normal and sensible.
-
I wasn't being sarcastic, I was agreeing with you, and you should check this first before jumping to conclusions, Penner...
-
Yeah, strange. I suppose a band is a lot of moving parts and a million reasons why they might not play somewhere.
I suppose we also have the Hidden Stage names to look forward to...
-
My thoughts...either they signed an exclusive with another Spanish-based festival or perhaps Primavera are keeping them back as a strong replacement for when inevitably someone somewhere cancels...
-
oh cool

That is a very sad end to the park gigs after all the years, which are one of my favourite aspects of Primavera.
I suppose you can't have it all...

A new PJ Harvey song is out there. Will give it few more spins but disappointing to my ears. Sounds like a song that wouldn't have made the quality cut on the last album.
-
Yeah pretty much certain it applied to other drinks too. Not certain on wine though but think so on spirits.
Also I don't think you can buy cava anywhere other than VIP. It was I think 2 euros last year (!) and felt kind of wrong (in a good way) to stroll around at a music festival with it.

I've dug into the 'lower tier' bands a bit and there is an awful lot of variety and interesting stuff on this line up! Never been to Primevera before and had no idea it was so eclectic. Lots of really weird and wonderful stuff buried within the line up.
There is truly something for everyone and incredible strength in depth. Welcome to the fold...
-
Yeah, that's a good point. It's all or nothing with VIP. Being with non-VIP ticketholder friends is obviously a problem.
-
See a previous comment I made about all the advantages of VIPs. Being at the Forum for 10 hours, most people end up drinking a lot and the saving is welcome...
-
If I had to guess it's 20 rows of VIP and 50% of the front area by width.
Half pints are 3.50 euros but 2 euros in VIP area. And as of last year you can take your beer out of the VIP area.
