Homerun that, they couldn't have picked a much better pop day booking.

Yeah I agree. I've always been honest enough to say that I would prefer it to be kept as 'Rock' Werchter, but that's not the reality we're in. So, all things considered they've definitely gone for the best pop headliner available to them.

I saw Dua Lipa practically open the John Peel at Glasto in 2016 because my friend really liked her (I'd never heard of her), and never thought for a second at that point "she'll be one of the biggest artists in the world one day". Fast forward two years and she was on at Mad Cool playing after NIN, and she absolutely blew me away. Couldn't believe how quickly she had grown into the role, definitely won't look out of place headlining here. Think if they double it up with someone like KoL or QOTSA on before her they could sell a lot of tickets for that Saturday.

Reading this forum, it seems that The National are the second coming of Led Zeppelin and we might as well not bother at all.

I like The National. It's not a worldwide panic that they booked someplace else. That money will go to some other compelling sub-headliner, like The Smile for instance.

I can only speak for myself but it’s not about The National per se, but they haven’t played Werchter for 11 years by the time the next festival comes around. They’re a good live act, and one better suited to Werchter than some other acts on their level that have played over the years like Macklemore, Ellie Goulding, James Blake etc. You could easily change The National for many bands that we here have all had the same complaints about over the years that have been touring around Werchter that they’ve missed out on.

You’re right though, there could very easily could be some excellent bands hiding behind contract embargoes that are still to be announced and we could still get a very good line up.

  3. I know they won't be happening because Live Is Live is happening, but The National announcing a date over Werchter weekend in London when they couldn't get them for so long due due to Eaux Claires being the same weekend is so frustrating. Feels like it's going to be another over-diluted year in Europe where no festival gets that 10/10 line up because the bands worth seeing are spread too thinly again and too many festivals try and appeal to too many people.

Insane lineup like last year! Never been to this one so I can't help you, but I do envy you for going and wishing you an awesome time!

Ah thanks dude! Got to do a bit more logistical planning but it’s actually looking a lot more reasonable than I thought so fingers crossed!

Yeah you look at that and think how can Download do so bad.

Really stings when running a standard ticket for this through a converter suggests it only costs around £289 for a full weekend ticket vs £350 for Download…

  5. That has got to be one of the very best line ups in rock/metal going around next year!

Wondering if anyone has been before in here? Myself and my wife were going to go for a day this year as we were in Florida until QOTSA cancelled but this line up looks potentially unmissable for us. If anyone has any pointers or tips on where to stay that would be welcome

whats that story about? PJ played mad cool in 2018

I'm not sure what the exact PJ story is, but if it's anything like the other bands on the list Mad Cool has a tendency to get over excited and tease bands well before they're allowed to in terms of what was contractually agreed*

Surprised we haven't actually got any rumours for this yet based on the fact they often struggle to shut up haha. Looking at rumours of who is around next year I think they could pull together quite a strong and varied line up.

*To be fair to them, with The Strokes it wasn't entirely their fault, Haim posted a draft poster with them on well in advance of when they were supposed to.

was just about to edit the reply and say to @strudd3rs I’d be happy to put the images together for a certain year if anyone wants them? I actually quite enjoy it 😂 if I emailed you the PNG images all you’d need to do is load them into TShirt Studio after because they’d have a transparent background. Would probably be half of what RW would charge anyway!

That would be great mate! Gonna have a look at the years I went and get back to you 👍

And to be very honest if the alternative is someone like Ed Sheeran, bring me RHCP again and again and again…

    You and me both mate

I realised this after 2017 and ended up making my own for 2018 😂 felt bad wearing it in the end because I had 4 people come up and ask which stall it was at.

Blimey, instead of trying to stretch themselves so thin to sell as many tickets as possible, they should just sell your Ts if they’re that desperate for the money. Brilliant that mate

The trains depart a little over an hour after the last band played. This means on the day with the late night act this will be around 3am, for the other days it will be around 2. But the train ride back is under an hour. I would recommend getting a hotel near "Bahnhof Meidling/railway station Meidling" that way you will only have a short walk home.

Ah that's even better, sounds like there won't be a huge mad rush to get from the headliners/last band to get the train back. That is excellent info as well, thank you so much!

There is a good train connection between the festival and vieanna and the train tickets are dirt cheap. If you decide not camp they even have trains going back into the city after the headliner played

This might be the piece of info which swings me to buying a ticket. Always wanted to see Vienna, and the idea of staying in a hotel after doing exclusively camping festivals this year will appeal massively to my wife.

There has been changes on the website and the app just got updated on my phone. We are getting closer...

I'm almost certain Stromae got announced on a Wednesday last year and he was the first name. Fingers crossed we're waking up to news of the Foos tomorrow...

Edit: Just noticed they've been announced for Roskilde on Friday 5th July. Probably our closer on the 7th

    Could they headline 2000 Trees?

Think it's perfectly plausible, or as @Spiral_Low has mentioned they could just be doing their own tour. With the somewhat resurgence of those sort of Nu Metal bands of that era are having currently, it wouldn't surprise me if they do a big EU festival run with the likes of Pinkpop, Rock For People, Mad Cool, Graspop etc giving them a decent slot

Limp Bizkit have no European dates at all though. Loads of us were really hoping for them but just looks like they're not about this time

In the Pinkpop topic, someone has posted that the promoter of Jera Festival has basically confirmed them for Pinkpop. Think it’s likely they’ll be in Europe next June but unlikely they’ll be at Download now

Well I for one appreciate you, your Yeastiness. Nice to have small teasers to create anticipation

Yeah I second this @Judas Yeast. The headliners aren't my thing so I'll probably be giving it a miss next year, but appreciate any info people bring to the party as it makes it so much easier to plan which festival you'll be doing next year when you know further in advance.

Are Royal Blood more popular in Belgium than Germany? Find it interesting that on the RAR lineup Royal Blood are in the tiny writing

Yeah, I’m sure the usually very reliable @Ken19once referred to them as a “Werchter Darling” on here. If they’re available with new material there’s a safe bet they’ll be there

Very much so and even if they weren't Herman Schueremans loves them enough to let them play twice in one weekend previously.

To be fair that was in 2015 when they were coming to prominence and Foos pulled out last minute. They replaced their slot with Faith No More and an extra Royal Blood set earlier in the day
