  1. This - and not hovering - is something I want to remind people of every year

since those gels came out it's all people use 'cos it's quicker' - i'm not sure many of them even read the instructions, but some handgels actively sell themselves as waterless handwash

Gel is very poor at removing actual dirt though, it can at best sterilize the surface but you need to use much more and for much longer than what most folk do

  2. Its looking quite positive at the moment, but remember it is extremely unlikely that there will be no rain or mud at all. A year like 2010 is a rarity.

Have you contacted the festival about your husbands disability? As I understand it they do help people with a disability and mobility difficulties. It used to be for people with broken legs as well, but then a whole load of jokers turned up on crutches to get a good view of the Pyramid stage (can you believe it!?). I only know about this because my mum broke her leg last year and asked the festival about access.

I looked into it last year, but because he doesn't claim any DLA and doesn't have a blue badge he isn't entitled to any help, which is bonkers really as he would be completely unable to move In 2011 conditions and I almost had to carry him back to our tent after having to walk in wellies all day last year on the Friday because his legs went into spasm. Maybe I will try again but didn't get much of a helpful response last year.

Anyway, sorry for going off topic!

  3. Congratulations! Fingers crossed for a dry one for you. When are you turning up? I'm sure you'd find some kind souls here to meet you and help put your tents up. I'm getting there Tuesday so may even be able to meet you at the gate to help carry some stuff if you like. Let me know when/where you'll be turning up.

Thank you, that's very kind of you! If hubby doesn't come I will probably change my plans as currently we are planning to head up on the Tuesday, but will go later if I'm on my own. I plan to travel light (no booze to carry at least!) and make the rest of our group carry more of their stuff (had offered to take stuff in our car as they're all going by public transport) so I'm sure I'll be grand, just like to worry a bit about logistics!

  4. I'm getting nervous - it's not looking great at the moment, and if it's looking like it'll be a muddy one hubby will stay at home as he literally cannot move in the mud due to his cerebral palsy. Which would leave me to set up for five people (rest of group arriving Thursday/Friday) and having recently discovered this will be my first pregnant glastonbury I'm reluctant to load myself up too much.

It's worrying, but still not quite enough to drive me away from the true path of science...

  5. How do you book your vanity van appointment? I too have never showered at glasto I do use solar shower for hair washing purposes as a sweaty itchy head is vile

  6. I'm working a half day on the Monday before (gives me the afternoon to know I've tied up all my paperwork before going on leave so will probably still be at work) thenoff until the Monday a week after the festival (the 7th July). Longest I've ever taken, usually go back on the Friday after the fest to kick me back into some kind of normality which seems to break the post-Glastonbury misery, but now Friday is my day off each week anyway.

Probably for the best, since it is looking increasingly like we will have to complete on the house we are buying and move a coupe, of days after we get back. Pretty sure it will actually kill me.

  7. The alternative to rushing there early is just to wait a bit after the headliners finished. We hung around in the Pyramid field after the Stones last year to avoid the crush of people leaving. Probably waited about half an hour then slowly ambled over to the SE corner. By the time we got there there was no queue to speak of, but I imagine if we had fought through the masses leaving straight after the headliners and gone straight away we'd have been stuck in a queue for a while.

  8. Thanks, I think I've probably got some steroid nasal spray, I've also got some seriously strong antihistamines from having an allergic reaction, but not enough for the whole weekend, so may see if I can get some on prescription as I suffer pretty much all the time not just at glasto so maybe that may work in my favour. :)

    Edit:

Sorry MrsRookin I remember seeing in a previous post you're a GP, is there a likely chance my doctor would prescribe based on those factors alone?

  9. It definitely seemed worse last year, and is one of the main reasons why we are no longer camping in Rivermead - on several occasions we ended up walking the VERY long way round through Dairy/Paines/Bushy, to avoid the crush in Silver Hayes, and as my husband has cerebral palsy affecting his walking I ended up almost having to carry him on the Friday night when his legs seized up!
