Pregnant wife at home, in my case.

Again needed. My point was more the ones who only use their phones to film sets and post it on instagram afterwards.

I need one because I’ve left my daughter at her grandparents.

Fair enough and needed in that case. Don't get me wrong, I take a phone I just have it switched it off all weekend as I don't need it or rarely use it.

Nothing annoys me more than everyone holding up their phones during sets, couldn't see the bloody Killers.

So what's everyone's plans for this festival then?

I fly into Lisbon on the 9th and have an Airbnb booked literally backing on to the LX factory. Stayed there last time and loveddd the location so very excited. Then fly back the following Tuesday, 16th!

Flying in from London Stanstead 9.25 on Thursday and should arrive at half 12. I say should, because unfortunately it's Ryanair so it'll likely be delayed. Looking to check out the Tower of Belem, Pradao, Castelo, Praca do comercio, Jeronimos, beach and maybe Benfica/Sporting CP stadiums depending on time/costs.

Any other free/cheap attractions I should check out, I'm happy to hear suggestions.:)

    Heading back Sunday at 4pm.

the council believe that the punters should have access to their phones and a working phone service.

I'm not 100% sure how much pressure is put on the festival about that, but I do know for certain there's something in the licence (or there was, anyway) about having a decent and working phone service.

Call me old fashioned, but why do you need a phone at a festival? The whole point is you're lost in an oasis of the festival for a few days. I remember when you just used to say to your mate "I'll meet you at x". It's like they're inviting the idea of instagramming everything.

  5. That's a shame, but let's be honest, they will draw the biggest queues and make a fuckton of money. "Festival season" is nothing more than a commercial brand these days, sucks, but what can you do?

They played Disarm and Ava Adore, neither of which are exactly balls out rawk songs. But they have enough heavy songs from their heyday which would have been much better received.

They could have at least thrown in Siva which they've been playing a lot on this tour. End of the day, people go to see the Pumpkins, they want to see the classic songs which got most of their fans into their music in the first place. Not average stuff from the last few albums that barely anyone knows.

You can never bet on what they're going to do tbh. I agree it'd be good to hear songs like Siva and Rhinoceros more rather than Zero and BWBW constantly, but then everyone would moan if they didn't play them either so you can't please everyone. 1979 is quite rare on their setlists over here, at least the times I've seen them, so not really a song you can expect to hear when you see them. Even at their own shows, everyone moans if they play b sides, so not sure what crowds want from them really. Pumpkins for me are a band where the b sides are better than the singles. I agree they should play singles at festivals though, but I guess they were going for a heavier set.

Not everybody at Download is an extreme metal merchant who wants the heaviest of everything all the time.

The line up didn't reflect that though. The Pumpkins were an anomaly booking. If there was more stuff that appealed to fans of them, I'd have gone.

I don't get what is wrong with the Pumpkins setlist. It's not ideal and I wasn't there (wish I was) but looking at the setlist it looks like a decent balance of new music and their earlier hits. Including a reasonable amount of heavy stuff such as Everlasting Gaze, Zero, Bullet, Superchrist etc. Personally I would want more stuff like 1979, Stand Inside Your Love (No Idea how they didn't play that) etc. in there and I think ending on XYU would have been great for Download but ah well. It seems to be pretty consistent with the sets they have been playing lately.

I've never believed the Pumpkins were a Download band, would songs like Tonight, Tonight, Thirty Three or 1979 go do well with a crowd wanting heavier songs? I guess if Reading was a still a rock festival, they'd have been there instead.

That said, I'd be disappointed by that setlist at NOS Alive, so hopefully we get a different set.

That's fine with me. It was best decade for music. They won't be around forever enjoy them while you still can.

My thoughts too. Still gutted I didn't get to see Jane's at Reading years back. Hopefully Perry's voice is fine.

Guns N' Roses announced a first tour date for 2019...  Slash has a gap between 9 and 15 June in his calendar. Thoughts?

It would make sense if they were holding back the announcement for a band of that size/prestige. Although they don't really fit in with the line up this year, so it seems unlikely.

I´ve heard that Nos´s ticket sales are a disaster, and I don´t think that Tame Impala will change that but I guess they´ll still make a good money with the festival.

No real surprise when they haven't announced the entire line up. I guess they thought they would sell loads purely on reputation alone.

lol there's plenty of lineup overlap between Coachella and Primavera, and the former is in many ways more well-run than the latter.

I meant in the sense that it just seems to exist so the Kardashians can pose and take selfies for Instagram. Everything about it seems so vacuous.

Mad Cool is a bit top heavy if anything. I went last year, and there were a lot of very big bands playing very long sets - although it was great, and I got to see tons of people I loved, it didn't have quite the excitement of the huge Primavera line up.

Yeah Mad Cool is good for big 'alternative' names, but it doesn't have the undercard of a Primavera or the more underground/cult names. That's what I like about Primavera, but the last few years the undercard has either been very repetitive or not that exciting.

I think Benicassim is a good example of this so I can see what you are saying, but I have faith that Primavera won't go down this road.  All the big acts this year still feel like they fit the Primavera 'sound', sorry.

Miley Cryus does feel a slight anomaly I guess, but she is 1 out of over 200 acts & a last minute replacement.

The Killers, Kings of Leon, Fatboy Slim, Kasabian, Mumford & Sons however.  Yeah, count me out!

I guess I wouldn't have a problem if there was another type of festival like Primavera, but there isn't. Mad Cool/NOS Alive are decent atm, but how long until they change as well? I just see Primavera getting even more mainstream in the next few years.

Really??  Please define crap crowds.  I'm here for the big names too like Janelle, FKA Twigs, Tame Impala, Solange & Robyn, so does that make me not worthy for the alternative acts?  This is a music festival.

Crap as in small, not the liveliest of the festival. I've seen it all before at other festivals where they start to get more mainstream at the top of the bill and then the crowd changes and then undercard starts to suffer too because of it. The whole point of Primavera was that it appealed to the alternative crowd to see acts you couldn't elsewhere and to escape the top 40. Now Miley Cyrus is welcome with open arms. The festival will continue down this route now.
