Yeah but thats always going to happen with any kind of restriction easing. Its a fact of life now we've to live with.

There will be other variants too. Delta plus en route.

This is why I do't trust the Government as they could u turn at anytime.

If they eased things sensibly then you could understand it but they aren't. On August 19th, numbers will be a lot higher so they could just decide to ban things like festivals.

Depends if cases translate to hospitalisations. Current data suggests not. Most cases now are really mild in terms of symptoms. A lot of people just have a runny nose and a sore throat for a day or two etc. California for example have ditched masks for vaccinated people a month ago and hospitalisations and deaths are still plummeting.

    That could change of course.

    Aren't hospitalisations increasing though?

Well....announcement today sounds hopeful for EOTR. I'm mildly apprehensive about live in general.... but having a festival to (hopefully) look forward to is rather exiting. Currently 95% barring any big curve balls.

The Tories will do a U-turn in the next week.

Todays announcement is utterly bonkers with the number of cases.

Surely masks need to be mandatory.

Unfortunately 10 days after the July 19th put them in a much harder place of having to start paying for suppliers etc before unlocking is confirmed. I also don't know if people would want to attend a music festival before being fully vaccinated (thankfully most 30/20 yr olds will be fully vaccinated before September). With the delta variant, I don't think I would (certainly wouldn't go into tent stages).

    But Latitude is happening.

It is all very inconsistent and I can't see EOTR making it myself.

I feel like the rates aren't worse than if they had been living their normal lives (going to supermarkets/restaurants), couldn't have expected zero cases. Hopefully the email means they have received clarity from the government and will just require track-and-trace to be in place.

Track and trace doesn’t work properly

I reckon you will need to show that you have had both vaccines and / or provide a negative test result within 2 days.

Given the Latitude news, and EOTR's bullish attitude, do we reckon they have test status too?

I don’t think EOTR have had anything confirmed if this is still a Test Event as they would need to wait for publish results.

Find it strange as the restrictions will be lifted on 19th July anyway and this is after.

    Agree.

They are ploughing ahead as got a grant but if the Government don’t issue the Guidance soon then this will run the risk of not happening like Truck/Kendal.

Are the Government just going to let festivals run without any need to check vaccine / negative test status ?

Truck is owned by a private equity firm.

    And isn’t happening.

Why is there such a lack of consistency ? If Latitude goes ahead then Truck/Kendal should too.

Same country and same type of event.

It might not need to be a "test event" if all restrictions are lifted on the 19th. But they've managed to get some contingency in place just in case by the looks of things.

But yeah, if the testing has been completed and festivals are waiting on the publication of the results, then how can it be a "test event"? I don't think you need to read too much into things to suggest that Melvin Benn's connections and 💲💲💲 have played a huge part in this being allowed.

Otherwise all festivals would be going ahead and just stating "yeah m8, test event..."

    Money always plays a part.

Government left Kendal hung out to dry by looks of it.

They are allowing Ascot, Wimbledon and Euros to happen bending rules because of money

What seems unclear is what the test event status that Kendal Calling referred to actually is or means, given it was after the date we keep being told will see all restrictions lifted and they seem to think the crucial ERP guidance is ready to go. If they're literally waiting until the Step 4 confirmation for its publication that's going to give few festivals time to prepare. Simon is not in a position to have DCMS discussions (that test event referred to in Kendal Calling's statement's going to be Latitude, isn't it?)

I thought Latitude was full capacity?

Why would it need to be a test event if no restrictions in place ?

Because if 19 July comes around and there are still any restrictions at all, they'll have already spent the vast majority of their money because they start only 10 days after that. Whereas EotR can leave it until then to see what happens without a huge amount of additional expense, given they still have a 6 week buffer.

Seems the smaller festivals getting fucked over as per usual.

  12. 3 minutes ago, shoebox said:

It wouldn't. I think, like Green Man have stated in the past, that if any capacity restrictions are still in place, and social distancing and masks are required, they would sack it off.

EOTR are currently, as far as I can see, making assumptions that once the 19th July passes, all restrictions are lifted and they can proceed as normal. On the 12th July (if not sooner if some sections of the press are to be believed. I don't believe it, for the record), they will know what is happening. That then gives them about 7 weeks to prepare.

No events should be having this sort of "unknowing" placed on them. Events and the rest of the hospitality industry are being given a simple message. That "all restrictions will be lifted", that is what they are planning towards. Not "all restrictions will be lifted, but with caveats and some restrictions still in place". If the second statement comes true, then thousands of businesses will be fucked.

If that’s the case then why have Kendal Calling pulled their festival? Seems they are working on a different assumption

GM's issue seems to be more related to the Welsh government's apparent reluctance to completely open up (a la Step 4 of the roadmap) or even drop social distancing despite their much vaunted speed of vaccination. There are some test events going on but none of them appear to involve festival-type setups, even though you'd think with what they have from the others there'd be enough data to show whether controlled entry can work.  Maybe their "we'll know in a couple of weeks" line suggests they're in high level talks. There's enough announcements being made of festivals weeks before EOTR (and increasingly indoor gigs in August) to think that a lot of English promoters are more confident.

Not sure EOTR or any promoters know what is going to happen (like all of us).

June 21st is the reopening for England but leaks suggest that might not happen so that may mean EOTR is at risk of not happening due to payments, etc.

Has anyone been to any socially distanced gigs on here?
