Slightly disagree as redgrave always had someone else to share the work load and Wiggins has done it on his own on occasions.
-
Now theres an old clothes exchange instead.
-
Ahh so its insured publicity - makes sence. Wasnt sure if it was some odd legal thing ie the only way they could close the book or if it was a way of stopping more losses some how that I didnt understand. I I did see on the press release of one of them that they were now taking bets on him getting a kighthood. Think it was 2:1 which isnt a bad shout. Unless hes the sort to turn one down?
Its funny what theyre referring to him as. Seems the 'table' still ranks Redgrave top, based on his Gold tally (which I'm inclined to agree with as its how its down in the overall competition) whilst referring to him as Britain's most decorated Olympian (as opposed to successful)

I don't need another option. Cash is still legal tender.
And that's precisely the point!!
-
No, just a ridiculous solution for something which has more than one solution. Rather like the wristbands really.
definitely not just that.
there is also no restriction on those being the only payment method. I'd happily live with that.
Do you think that's the option we'll get?
-
I see some bookies are allready paying out for Wiggins to win Sports Personality. Is there a reason they do this other than publicity?
-
likewise, there's loads of other things which could be as effective or more effective at stopping tent thefts from festivals. For example...
Stop having festivals.
Stop people camping at festivals.
Don't take cash.
Don't be so foolish as to leave your cash where someone is able to take it.
Get some decent security staff that actually care about people's security (rather than just their own), so they don't unnecessarily hassle innocent punters and catch the thieves instead.
All of those things would work, and would work better than these wristbands. And be cheaper.
Back to the wristbands: there's a reason why the money limit is low on them, and that's because the makers of those systems don't have the confidence in their systems that they expect festival goers to have.
-
You still have the fundamental problem that the bands have limited top ups (I think it was max £20 at Wireless not sure for others) and people who steal from tents take things that are in the tent if the wallet is with you they can't steal it.
-
Then there's no difference. People who steal from tents will take things from the tents and with a wallet/cashless wristband you will be taking it with you.
You also have to consider that the cashless band has limits of how much you can put on so you still have to bring cash to put it onto the band in the 1st place.
-
Also I cant belive the amount of negativity in this thread for something thats been offered for free.
-
you'd have to go to the bar yourself at least 25 times over the weekend to cover the smallest possible time it might take to put money on these wristbands. Given that very few people would go to the bar 24 times over the weekend, it's not easier.
And how is it safer? With cash in your pocket, you are in control of your money. Your money is not safer for your own use if you have to rely on a 3td party to be able to give you access to your money, which is exactly what you'd be doing.
So want to try again? Even the less queuing is bollocks, as proven by the bigger queues than they'd be for entrance in handling paper tickets.
-
Well I don't know what kind of ship it is but I imagine that they have bedrooms, restaurants, bars, decks and the like. Having one stage does make it's appeal limited but it's unlikely that you wouldn't be able to get away from a band that you didn't like.
-
At Reading Piccadilly Circus is the area behind the main stage (ish) where the police station is and the old main pedestrian entrance used to come in to. Its no where near as busy as it used to be, it was basically the convergence for a lot of foot traffic and stage traffic but many site reworkings down the line the bottleneck has been worked out and removed.
As Ivan says at Leeds they also have a Piccadilly Circus, where they put on late night entertainment. If you head to the Reading one for a Piccadilly Party you’ll just be greeted by confused looking Oxfam stewards and police.

As far as I'm aware that's right. It was what I read recently in either The Guardian or The Telegraph, or in Private Eye.

Oh, and guess what happens with those fines?
They go into a pot of money which is used to fund the FSA, where that pot of money is usually made up from money that the banks put in.
So they pay over the fines, but don't need to pay for the FSA. The banks don't actually lose any money at all.
-
P.s it worth baring in mind that the £150 million RBS fine probably wont be recoverable from the responsible bankers so will will fall to the shreholders of which 88% are owned by the UK Government.
So far the FSA have settled with Barkleys, Lloyds, RBS & HSBC.
-
its not possible for one bank on its own to fix libor as I believe the top and bottom bids are discounted from the spread, added to the fact that Barclays came forward themselves would suggest it wasn't institutionalized there and so someone else was pulling the strings.
I'll be interested to see if anything comes out of the semi-nationalized banks which you would expect the government had more control over.

Viagogo would have sold FR tickets with or without FR partnering with them and its safer than ebay. They were very unscrupulous but I cant see Melvin Benn having known that from the outset. High insight is 2020 as they say.

on a related note, this is an amazing read
http://www.rollingst...0620?print=true
its a hell of a daunting read, get a coffee before you start, but its indicative of the culture of the gordon gecko types we all suspect populate wall street and no doubt the city of london banking fraternity.
stick with it, it puts things in plain english when you get so far through. its an amazing read, particularly the way it talks about corruption being the norm, the culture "they simply forgot what they were doing was illegal" (I'm paraphrasing - but not a million miles out!)

Edinburgh Trams have started recruiting - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-18672352
Drivers to be recruited and trained by December this year. Trams scheduled to start running in 2014.
*Scheduled being the key word here. The project is allready about a million years over due.

So what animal is everyone following? I hear theres a cow in germany that has got it wrong every time. And they are ironicly using a Chiken in Kiev...
-
......according to the human cycle of life.
I don't believe that all animals conform to our cycle. For instance, beetles and flies last only days in that form. For months they're larvea in a pretty constrained state of being. But then, 'constrained' would depend on the animal's ability to experience a sense of freedom and I'm unsure insects have the sentience.
I could go on, but I won't. I'm sure you get the point.

It's actually pretty easy when you think about it.
The police have identified who many of the individuals are who are part of the robbing groups, and their photos have been circulated. So they're often identified on-site by the police, who are then either able to watch them till they do something wrong so they can nick them, or they can be just removed from the site.
For example: At a particular festival of mid-size about 5 years ago, on the Thursday the old bill nicked a group of people and they were removed from the site (under arrest, I think). Just (I think it was) 3 robberies were reported at that festival that year - with all of those robberies happening prior to that group being removed from site.
It's not the huge numbers of individuals on the rob at festivals that some people think it is (tho that happens sometimes I guess). In the main it's these organised groups.

Not sure how they can keep an eye on emerging trends and tactics in relation to thefts from tents? Unwanted people get into your tent and steal your stuff. It's that simple.
Bookies paying out early - why?
