That's what my friend said they did last year! Might give it a bash if I'm feeling brave!

The only thing that will happen is it will be confiscated if found. It's a balance I suppose, possible lose £20 at gate or spend way more than that in the bar.

    Hey

So I'm a glasto vet but a boomtown virgin.  We didn't make the ticket sales this year for glasto (gutted!) so we decided to get tickets to boomtown instead (yay).  We'd heard good things about boomtown - that it's basically the night-time area of glasto in a whole festival, which sounds incredible.  Every year the night time areas at glasto blow our minds.  So needless to say we're all very excited, but also really trying to figure out what we're doing as it's all new.

I've been reading the posts on this thread and they've been super helpful - thank you so much.

For those who've been, how does this compare to glasto?  We've heard horror stories about the hill, but other threads saying it takes 20-30 mins between areas which compared to glasto sounds easy peasy.  Also, the alcohol limits were a big shock after glasto - any advice on this?

And searches - they say they're clamping down every year on searches at glasto but we've yet to be searched once (we're in our 30s and either a couple of mix group in a car) - will we be more likely to be searched at boomtown comparatively?  What are the queues like to get in on Thursday?  What time should we arrive to be sure we're in the queue at a good point to be sure we get a good camping spot?

Camping - where's good to camp?  Not too mental but not too far away/quiet?  Something in between?  The forest raves sound cool - but is the psy forest camping any good?  Would we be better in Barrio Loco for example?

Should we bring wheelbarrows?  We do to glasto for all our gear.

Are the only showers in zooloos/boomtique?  We don't mind the communal style ones that Greenpeace do at Glasto.

How do the loos compare?  We're happy with composters/long drops.

And tent theft in the night?  how common is this?  We know it happens at all festivals, but in general so long as you're not stupid is it relatively ok?

Sorry that's long...so many questions...there's probably more too.

Regarding the hill : there's a few ways of going up the hill. There is the very steep energetic get it over quickly route (if you look at the map and draw a line from barrio loco to whistlers green) steps.

There is the easier and entertaining route from Chinatown up through Mayfair into town centre or there is a pretty much the same grade slope through Halfway Woods that kind of starts between Chinatown and wandering words and comes out by tribe of frog venue in trees. (This route isn't on some maps I've seen)

We have done all three. No preference.

Camping, whilst walking around the site I never saw any camp sites that were full. So I wouldn't stress about not finding a pitch in which ever site you decide on.

Searches, we were not searched at all last year going into family camping, wasn't luck, just a confused entrance at the time we entered. However we did leave to meet a band and on return as we walked past wristband check and around the corner a dog came bounding over and had a good sniff at me. Much to the amusement of my teenager. You couldn't see dogs waiting so be mindful of this at the entrance, they hide. That was Friday late morning.

    Toilets were fine.

No idea on showers or tent thefts as we were in caravan.

  3. Second year missing the festival. The year before I only got the tickets in the secret resale.

Turning 50 this year and wanted to do so many special things. Glastonbury Festival and Xmas in Australia with family top of the list. Both those out the window and a lot of other minor joys as well. This led to quite a downward spiral in the first few months of this year.

However some of pain is eased by a trip to Boomtown. Can't wait again. It's bigger now than the first Glastonbury I did, can only wonder what it will be like when I'm 80 :-)

Have to say it's a bit of a relief not to stress about tickets this October.

  4. 1.30 hour jam Eastbound on A361, been watching it on TomTom and it went from 45 mins at 7 to 1.30 hours in ten minutes.

North bound A37 holding steady at 30 mins, but that has longer lanes to take up the slack off the main road.

    Good luck folks

  5. It's showing as closed tonight. No problem tho. Just take a36 to Salisbury and then pick up A303 from north of there.

I think it's closed each night till 6am and it possibly finishes on 23/6.

Saw on their Facebook page that they have lumped all music of a similar genre together. So the top section of the Chinatown poster from The Specials to The SkaVengers are playing elsewhere at the festival and then everything below is in Chinatown.

    Thank you.

Actually not sure what bothered me more, sneaking the kid in or having to walk up that bloody hill each night afterwards !!

Not many acts appealed to us down the hill last year, thankfully.

  7. Slightly confused about some of the info. Lots of acts on the Chinatown poster are being shown as playing the Town Centre stage. We enjoy ska, much of which was in the TC stage last year.

Boomtown rules state we can't take our 15 y/o into Chinatown after 7pm (reality is a bit different, but only takes a jobs worth to note his wristband) but as of the moment most of the bands I'm interested in will be unwatchable. Bugger :-(

4.11 Teen and Child ticket holders are not permitted entry into the DownTown Areas (which includes DSTRKT 5, Barrio Loco and ChinaTown

Funnily enough he can goto into sector 6, strange.

  8. We had a great time, even the silly girl driving into the side of our caravan as we left didn't spoil the weekend.

Our thanks to all the people who worked so hard to bring this site to life. Brilliant job.

  9. Ref , Saturday night at Banghai,I was already back at our van up by kids town and passed out in the awning when I got awoken by a god awful cacophony of noise coming from downtown just after 1am. It was just a huge roar of indistinguishable sound.

The wind must of caused some issue with the sound levels on Sat night. It hadn't been like that on Thurs or Fri night.

  10. The TT incinerator fire incident was '92.

The w/e after TT in '90 at Rake Common there was a Free Festival at Telescombe Cliffs. Sadly there was an altercation between a bunch of twats and Hawkwind that resulted in Hawkwind's bus getting trashe and then burnt out. Hawkwind never played a Free Festival after that. Sad times.

Never knew that. Indeed how very sad.

  11. ... the Magic Mushroom band played for about 10 hours on that little mound which was 'the stage'.

i can't guarantee it, but I'd be massively amazed if Hawkwind where there and I wasn't aware that they were.

Tho perhaps i've done your trick and my mind is blank.

As far as i remember, the MMB were the only 'famous' act that played that year.

Definitely there, we had watched them at the Top Rank night before or two and they said they were playing, also Dave Brock was camped just opposite us (then he moved later). Somebody told me Ozric Tentacles also played but maybe that was Magic Mushroom band.

Jusat remembered watching somebody playing then the music and lights dimming. I thought i had died then in the darkness a voice said "fuck the genie run out of diesel",  somebody offered to syphon there bus and off we went again.

Could we be talking different years ?

  12. oooo, another TT-er, hello, we might have met .... :)

I went to four (I think) of those, two of which were in Waterlooville, one at some place I think began with a 'b', and (what i think was the last one?) on Liss Common.

    The B was Bramdean Common.

Its the one time in my life i have no idea what happened during the night. All i remember is standing and listening to the first bass note of Hawkwind and then somebody suggested we return to our fire.I stood and watched them pack down for a bit wondering what had just happened. For all i know that one bass note was all there was !! And then all of a sudden it was daylight as if somebody had turned a light on.
