Firstly it isn't 48K punters. Yes, Anna mentioned that on the radio interview, but it's around 30K tickets being sold. The only areas of the site that aren't going to be used are Temple Valley and the Lions Den, so you still have a very big area to use. The fat that all camping is outside of the bowl will make a lot more space, and based on @Sku's map, there is potential for a large stage at the bottom of the hippy highway, and that is a huge space to use, which hasn't previously been used before.

Boomtown are only too well aware of the fact this festival needs to be nailed. They are pulling out all of the stops to ensure that is achieved, and in the process they will be ensuring the Boomtown ethos returns. In my opinion, the last 2-3 festivals had started to go away from what once made Boomtown special. It had gotten too big too quickly, and this is a chance to get back that Boomtown magic again.

    Excellent news.

When did she rescind the 48k public tickets bit then ?

    This 👆🏼

Although I'm a dance-monkey and so love the night-time, the daytime musical profile of Boomtown couldn't be described as my typical choices. However, the continuing ethos of Boomtown makes it massively attractive to me. The Boomtown crew have gone on record time after time waxing lyrically of their desire to create something artistically special for all their festival goers, seeing commercial success as an unavoidably important issue, but secondary to the experience. On that basis, I think we have every reason to trust in their skill and judgment to deliver an amazing, not overcrowded festival, despite the challenges they are facing immediately post peak-COVID etc.

    Ben

At no point have I said it’s for the money. I was their for the first in the bowl and have watched it grow steadily as well.
I dream  they got feedback they could sell same as last year and will now maybe bring back Uptown and are just holding off on the announcement. Don’t know why they would be doing that tho.

But I’m sorry, I just don’t see 48k in Downtown, not with a good selection of venues offering the same kind of selection as in the past.

Also, I think all/almost all of the Downtown camping spaces adjacent to Districts are converting to part of an expanded Downtown. So with that, Forest Parties and a very significant reduction in punter numbers, we should be OK...*

    *I think

Numbers are not reduced. Listen to the link posted by Sawdusty Surfer and she says 48 thousand public tickets sold.

  4. Am I the only one worried about the same sized public crowd in half the area ? Forty eight thousand public punters Downtown is terrifying thought.

I get you can stuff that many people in that area, uncomfortably, but how are they going to move freely amongst the stages ??

it was busy in the evenings Downtown when you had major headliners on Lions Den, Town Centre and a myriad of other minor stages, plus Nucleus all taking probably half the attendance away from Downtown. I just can’t picture a good selection of venues catering for all the different music Boomtown was greatly known for.

It needs to be called The Cramming, not The Gathering.

  5. May I ask what happened to Lauryn Hill ?

We got there about 9.30 with people on the way to the stage saying she hadn’t turned up. Stayed till 9.45 listening to a female dj on stage. Was that her ?

Just as we got back to family cv I then thought I heard a guitar strumming. Did the band start then ? Must of been about 10pm by then.

  6. Well had dream journey out.

I found two phones over the festival, handed into info and then a wallet I found near lions den late Sunday night on way to cv field that we delivered to the guys house on way home.

Hopefully some good karma points stockpiled for the future.

We wondered if they'd taken some of them down for health and safety reasons....man it with security instead? Presumably they didn't want those flying down on the site

Those were my thoughts to start with., but there was a group of panels in the middle still standing.

We went off site at midday and they appeared to be trying to put them back up. When we returned at 9pm they we’re still working up there with police and dog units in attendance.

Maybe on reflection they weren’t putting it up that morning, instead they were using the jcb to hold what was left up.

Quick Tier 1 and no problem.

I have no ID is that only needed if you are younger ?

They operate a Challenge 25. So if you look under then they want your ID as proof of age, also to check name against ticket.

Bit closer to festival Boomtown do a deal of £5 off a Citizen Card. Normally £15.

    All described here https://www.boomtownfair.co.uk/news/2018-04-25-discounted-id-cards-for-boomtown-citizens/

  9. The only issue in the past with being off site is the curfew they run on the gates.

You can leave the site at ANY time but you can only enter between certain times. Previously I think the gates opened during the festival 10am to 11.30pm (happy to be corrected on times)

You can only bring alcohol in officially the first time you enter the site, not on re entry.

The campervans are INSIDE the security fence. So only deal with security on first arrival. Not like Glastonbury were you enter each day.

Do they enforce the rule about no teenagers (12 to 17) in the downtown area after 10:00 pm? Daughter is 16 with no unofficial id so we bought a teen ticket.

We have had no grief with my boy downtown in all the years going. Only noticed last year about the rule, so just told him to keep his head down and stay away from security.

TBH we mostly spent time uptown but we stayed till the end Sunday in Chinatown without any problems.

Hes only turned 16 this year.

  11. The bloke was so chuffed at 'finding' my hammer that I often picture it hung on his bedroom wall with a little plaque underneath.

But sadly, yes probably ended in landfill somewhere.
