  1. This year was my last ever Reading Festival for a number of reasons and I wanna do a different one this year, Reading was truly shocking and I'd prefer some of the more alternative, relaxed festivals. I also did Glasto this year and loved it. I'm 19 years old and still enjoy the more wild side of things, but after the destruction and riots of Reading, I wanna do something where I don't fear for my safety when wandering about.

I'm thinking maybe Lattitude or Bestival? I'm not a big fan of dance music, so Glade doesn't appeal.

If anyone had any suggestions that'd be great? Thanks

  2. Words cannot express how good this festival is. Keep it that way. Oh, and more of you need to join the van supported bike rides to the festival next year - 50 of us rocked up from 5 cities on Thursday, had an on site critical mass then joined the party.

Fancy dress parade was brilliant. If any of you spotted Shaun of the Dead, that was me :)

  3. hi xrayspecs we have had great fun at sgp 2007/ 2008 last year they seemed not to be to heavy on the bag searches as they were the year before but the site is very close to a tesco store and people started to bring in boxes of booze daily this may have led to bar sales dropping, and the heavy searches this year! we are looking forward to shambala, live really close to site so did a little divertion today when collecting bike from garage just so we go the correct way on the dual but might know afaster route! will defo let you know how it compares to sgp from looking at photos and reading reviews some stalls are at both! :)
  4. After having such a rubbish time(!) last year I've reluctantly bought my tickets again for this years Shambala, and have suggested to a number of friends that they too waste their money on this dire festival... (NB: Tongue firmly in cheek - shhhhh)

Yeah - Shambala's not many weeks away now... a search on myspace will show quite a few of the acts who are scheduled to play this year.. It's looking like another ace one.....

  5. They set up a fake VIP party on Saturday night in the Cabaret tent. It was advertised in the programme as being closed to punters. In reality, there were no VIPs present, and the only guests were punters who'd been given a 'special' VIP wrist-band. If you stood around outside the Cabaret tent, eventually you'd be given one of these 'because we have a few spaces left over.' Once inside, there was a good party atmosphere, but some of the punters got carried away with the whole concept of being a bit special, and decided they'd go all bling and splash out on 'champagne' at £9 a glass!

Worse was to come - you might be approached by someone to give you a special pass to various 'very VIP' areas within the party. These were a series of increasingly ludicrous parties-within-a-party, until finally, if you were admitted to the inner sanctum of celebrity heaven, the bouncer would examine your 'VVVVIP' pass and allow you access through the final door - which you soon discovered was just a back-door out of the tent.

As it happens, it was a pretty good night, and most people that went are probably still convinced that their festival was special because of their brush with the stars.

oh that sounds like a well funny stunt, just goes to show just how easily led people can be convinced that they getting some thing others aint, thought that eveybody knew that the best parties at festivals are never in v.i.p or hospitality tents . you MUGGS HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!:P

  6. tickets all booked and sorted! best check the tents ok now,got it out last year and had to repair a hole made by a mouse!!!! :) looking forward to this 1 its so close to home aswell 1! heard that invocal are playing, any other rumours? does any 1 know who does the bars at this 1 ? :P
  7. I'm not sure that's a good idea.

If I were a thieving scumbag, I'd take the padlock as meaning there's something worth having inside the tent. A quick slash with a knife and I'm in - and then you've also lost your tent.

yes its hard to know wot to do for the best?? having woke up with some 1 already in the tent with you like other people on this forum have experienced its frightning enough now with 2 kids in there own pods in the tent, them having the same experience is not a comfortable thought!! :( they did share a pod last year but the lad is 15 now and wants his own pod! could try the bell trick, has this worked for anyone ??
  8. I walked back to the tent at Glasto around 7am on the sun morning and my tent door was open. Nothing was nicked as I had all my valuables on me. But for 5 mins i was quite pissed off!

have been robbed twice while sleeping in my tent at glasto!! never got my money or small vauables but had camera, stereo, booze even 4 mars bars must be hungery work, on the 2nd year they took my orbital style torch glasses and i woke got out my tent went and found them in some 1 elses tent and demanded them back, and they handed, later on reflection i realised i could of had a right pasting from them. i lock my tent with a padlock now and wear a money belt witch i sleep with and my phone !!!!!!! :D

  9. Hi,

I'm looking for some help. Me and my other half have been biten by the festival bug. So, next summer we want to try a couple of new ones (well new to us). I'm looking for a small (upto say 10,000 peeps), chilled vibe & friendly festival. We live in NW Wales and don't want to travel too far eg Scotland, London/Kent, Norfolk/Suffolk. It's the chilled happy friendly vibe that's most important to us, then things to see & do, with music quality being least important. So, what's your recommendations? Please don't all recommend Shambala, that's are favourate and we'll be there next summer. Anything that's like Shambala would be ideal.

    Thanx for your help.

    :D

  10. I was meant to be going away in august but the trip has been postponed until next year. Already booked the time off work so was thinking of heading to a festival for a weekend. Am booked off from the 14th - 30th August can anyone recommend a desent festival, i'll more than likely be going on my own so friendly atmosphere is more important than line up. I'm a regular glastonbury goer and also going to Big Green Gathering this year. Live in Worcester, happy to travel a reasonable distance.

    Would appreciate any thoughts,

    Thanks :D

    Sorry bout spelling, cider!
