  1. I find each wet one a trial in it's own way. 1997 was the worst for me - the last year we did as punters and slept in the car for 4 nights. Now the site has drainage, properly controlled pedestrian flows and all sorts of other infrastructure. Considering this and the state of some of the backstage areas that crew are having to live and work in, I'd say that this year was one of the worst. It took two tractors 2 1/2 hours to pull our bus out. On the up side I'm now the same belt size as I was at the end of last season and more importantly, I'm ever so grateful that we don't have to live like that like some poor people not a million miles away from our shores.

Thanks guys, all really helpful, best get training for the hills then and praying it doesnt rain!! mud is hard work generally let alone when had a few ciders........

looks like we will be trying to camp up the hill then where its a little quieter at night..

is it a really young festival then?  my 46 year old bones can't stay up as late as they used to

I'm a similar age and we produce The Rusty Spurs ( Wild West) and play in a couple of bands ( The Boot Hill All Stars & The Back Wood Redeemers). Yep its tiring if you are wanting to roam around all day, but Neil has pretty much summed it up. I really enjoy the mix of ages, but there's a fair few ( loads) of the over 40's hanging out up townJust to add....the whole thing is a fully interactive theatrical experience - you can take part as much or as little as you fancy. There's a sitewide storyline that each area participates in, with own theatrical direction. Last year punters really got involved, did citizenship tests ( getting stuff from each area), dressed for their chosen camping areas etc etc......or wandered around, watched bands and watched the world go by....or both. I'm blown away by the enormity of the concept and how it's working - and it's a LOT of fun

  4. We've tickled your fancy with the releases so far, but not really let too much out about what is coming up. So on 18th Jan 2016 we'll be releasing the rest of the actsto date, inc 5 more headliners - bands from Bristol to Belgium and right across the spectrum of Rockabilly, Ska, Dub, Klezmer and beyond. Also some news on new things planned, new people onboard and the bit that everyone loves - Perry's new artwork!

  5. Yep - we're back for 2016.....As the description says - it's a great time in a field - simple as, but more than just the music ;)

We're going to be doing a big release of all acts in Jan 2016, but to give you a taste so far...

    The Destroyers

Louis Barrabas & The Bedlam Six

    Skimmity Hitchers

Dana Immanuel & The Stolen Band

    Some Dogs

& plenty of Ska, swing, cowpunk, bluegrass, folk, dub, rockabilly & more headliners to be announced. :)

  6. Blowing own trumpet, but do have a look at Once Upon a Time in the West Festival. Its run by a team who work/have worked Glastonbury, Boomtown, Endorse it in Dorset, Bearded Theory etc. Emphasis is on a grand old time with ska, swing, bluegrass, cowpunk, folk - list goes on. Tends on more of the " underground" bands, so previous acts have been Zen Hussies, Los Albertos ( who picked it as one of the few the played when getting back together for one season this year), Curtis Eller American Circus....This year we have The Destroyers, Dana Immanuel & The Stolen Band, Louis Barabbas & The Bedlam 6 and loads more to come ( including more headliners). Really friendly vibe and £65+bf  - down in Wiltshire 14-17th July. Website is on partly updated, so FB page is a bit more on it atm. Big launch in Jan with the new artwork, bands etc :)

  7. Yeah, the set times annoyed me as well. I couldn't see Showhawk duo anywhere on either set list (lanyard or booklet), we had to look through the a to z list, find what stage they were on and look back through the descritions of the bands under that stage. Then couldn't remember what time they were on when we were downtown and only had the Lanyard with us. Gutted to have missed them.

If you mean the Rusty Spurs that was a late booking due to a cancellation - these things happen.

We happened to pass by at the right time...

Yep - that was my booking. We had a few last minute ones pull - bands split, couldn't make it etc. This was after the whole thing had gone to press. Times and line-ups were outside the venue each day on the blackboard. Like Kerplunk said, these things happen, frustrating though it is

  8. and....and The Carny Villains !!!!

    Ticket update ..

We have plenty of adult & car passes left, as we have upped the numbers on the license, but please bear in mind that we've already sold more tickets than for the whole of last years sell out event ( was on a smaller 499 cap)

    Of other tickets, we have left... 5 x 12 and under tickets, 3 x youth tickets & 17 x live-in vehicle passes.

Word is very much out & about on this one....set to be a top Westcountry party ;)

  10. Happy New Year All. It would appear that half the country was struck down with man-flu of some sort or other, so just to cheer people up , we had a bit of an early release over the season. Here's what happened...

Here it is....you asked for more Reggae/Dub, so for us the choice was obvious!.....if you didn't catch them first time round now's your chance..25years since the release of their first album, with an international career taking them to festivals all over the UK and into Europe..we are ecstaticly pleased that they can do the gig
    it's West Country Legends.... Rhythmites!!!!!!

  11. Sorry...sorry - a tad tardy with the news.......One of us has been in Europe scouring all the little events out there for the weird and wonderful for Glastonbury, Bath Fringe and OUT West...and others have been running areas at Boomtown, etc and pulling in all the feedback from this year's festy. Soooo....

Firstly, we'd like to say thank-you to all the brilliant crew, security, medics, bands, DJ's, Sally Croissant Neuf, G-Stages, R&B Marquees and Malinkeys, all of whom dug out to help us get this of the ground.

Secondly we would like to thanks all the punters - we've had nothing but great feedback from the Village, Farm, local shops about how tidy & respectful you all are. There's a lovely piece written in the local Parish Mag about the event. Not one noise compliant :)

So onto 2015...First Tier tickets sold out in 7 hours!!!! We're well chuffed. Second Tier tickets go onsale on 22nd October from here at 7.30am for £55 per adult- giving those who want to buy before work some time - you can also buy on your mobile device.

And what's planned??? Well after the feedback we are looking at keeping everything we had in 2014 ( as you loved it all), putting in more loo's, a wider range of food choices and a quiet camping area. We are also looking into more kids stuff, an semi-open mic/acoustic venue and a few other funky areas/bit & bobs to keep things fun and fresh.

Band wise we are keeping the same upbeat party vibe, - Swing, Ska, Bluegrass, Cowpunk, Dance, Dub, Rockabilly& Filthy Blues gilded with some Folk, some Acoustic, some Country and some off-the-wall acts.

More news when it happens!! :)

  12. Nice one and glad you all had a good time seems like an age ago now, as we've all been straight into other events and not had time to catch up. However a meeting is booked in for tuesday and we will be making some decisions for next year-watch this space and hopefully we'll have some news for you next week :-)

It was a brilliant little festival :) My Simon did the review for it which I believe you can read on here somewhere :) xxx

  13. We had bluegrass, cowpunk, ciderpunk, scrumpy and western on up in Rusty Spurs Club- not one iota of ska!!

Was my 1st Boomtown (being used to Glasto, Boomtown is COOOOOOOMPLETELY DIFFERENT)

    Things I loved..

    The madness

THE FRIENDLY PEOPLE - they were everywhere and this was lovely (noticeably more friendly than some I have encountered at Glasto)

The fancy dress and the performers which stay in character & can completely freak you out in a good way :0))

    The night time music

The effort that goes into creating such a crazy lil town

    Things I wasnt crazy about

The music during the day... all we could find was reggae and ska (this isnt a boomtown criticism this was just not to my taste & I didn't realise that this was all there would be (unless I was missing something?)

The toilets OH LORDY THEY WERE MINGTASTIC in our campsite by Friday AM overflowing.

The alcohol restrictions - 16 cans of larger all wend & no spirits allowed as the bars are advertised as being cheap - the bars were not cheap and most were not even open until Friday PM (which I believe is a council restriction?)
