  1. After planning on going for about 5 years I finally took the plunge and booked. Whats Budapest like for public transport? Will probably look to get an apartment because I don't handle heat too well so wondering what are the locations to be looking for this?

  2. Only 2 weeks to go. Timetable is out on the site. It always disappoints me there isn't much talk about this festival here. Helps pass the time waiting with a little bit of gossip. Anyone got any recommendations of who to check out?

I think this is my plan at the moment:

    Thursday:

    Women

    Magik Markers

    Spectrum

    Marnie Stern

    Yo La tengo

    Andrew Bird

    Dead Meadow

    Lightning Bolt

    Aphex Twin

    Ebony Bones

    Squarepusher

    Friday:

    Magnolia Electric Co.

    Bat For Lashes

    Spiritualized

    Carsick Cars

    MBV

    Crystal Antlers

    Jarvis

    Shellac

    Bloc Party

    Mahjongg

    Saturday:

    Alela Diane

    Shearwater

    Michael Nyman

    Herman Dune

    Oneida

    Liars

    Gang Gang Dance

    SMD

    Mehdi

Good bit of overlap depending on how the end times work out but its alot easier to move around the site than your average festival so going to do a good bit of running around to try and solve the clashes.

  3. The staggered price is good I think. They always give warning on the site before it happens and they do it at the same time every year usually just after an announcement. Its not even much of a gamble to pick them up early because you can of course sell them at the price you paid when they are selling for much more. To that end youd probably be able to find someone selling a few cheapies if you looked around. Try the spanish language forum on the festival site (though they usually kill the threads quickly) or the event page on last.fm or the primavera thread on drowned in sound.

This is seetickets first year doing the tickets so don't know the setup for them. I know people over here in Dublin who ordered were told it would be collect only but I think thats just a general See tickets thing with overseas orders... reckon they'll deliver to Scotland though.

  4. It's a very young ignorant crowd, the sound is consistently awful on all stages, extremely expensive with very little drink/food choices, the campsite has on several occasions been compared to a warzone etc.

Search for previous threads in this forum or even look at post #4 in this thread. Some people manage to have a good time but I seriously think after been to the festivals you've mentioned you'll be utterly disgusted by Oxegen.

  5. Ireland is nice... Oxegen is everything thats wrong with it. With that sort of festival pedigree behind you and the fact that you've been doing it for ten years tell me you are way too experienced to overlook Oxegens faults.

The festival is a fair distance from Dublin so you can expect at least an hour each way each day. The buses will probably cost you 20 euro A DAY return. They will drop you close to the festival though. Most of the security issues are in the campsite though so don't camp if you can avoid it.

Going back to Werchter or check out Roskilde is heavily recommended over coming to Oxegen especially after being to festivals that are actually run correctly!

  6. There were early bird tickets for sale at 199euro previously. You might get a few people trying to fob them off at that price in the next short while if you are lucky. Everyone is a bit anxious now Festival Republic have their talons into the picnic but in general its been excellent every year and a far cry from Oxegen.

  7. Times won't be released until about 2 weeks before the festival but the band day and venue breakdown is here on the official site.

Theres alot of small little bits in addition to the festival.

First off on the weekend before the festival there is something called Primavera Metro which is small local bands playing to the public in the metro stations. These are on the page as Metro.

Then there are the showcase shows curated by various sponsors of the festival. These take place on the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday before the festival. There are 2 each night in two different venues... one called Sidecar and the other called Apolo. On the breakdown page I linked the name in brackets beside each is who is curating that particular day. Its usually only a couple of small bands at each of these each night but theres a few gems in there occasionaly.

The festival itself is on Thursday to Saturday in Parc del Forum. The Auditori is a large building beside the festival site while the rest is outdoor stages. The main stage is called Estrella Damn. ATP and Pitchfork are two other stages curated by their namesakes. There are a couple more stages but the acts haven't been specified for them yet so those acts simply have Parc Del Forum beside them.

On the Saturday and the Sunday there are gigs in Parc Joan Miro, which is a public park near the Espanya metro, from around Midday. The main festival only starts at 4pm and ends at 6am so getting to these can be tough but there are several biggish acts doing them, though most are ALSO playing somewhere in the forum... except for Kimya Dawson who is only playing in Parc Joan Miro.

FINALLY there is a closing party on the Sunday night that happens in the Apolo nightclub and acts playing that are marked as such.

All of the above is included in the price of the main festival ticket. The metro stuff and possibly the Parc Joan Miro stuff is open to the public I think.

  8. I don't believe it has ever sold out at all.. even when White Stripes and Pumpkins played. Usually theres a good few people trying to sell tickets around the time it comes around at the early bird prices on the official forum (though they stopped that) and Drowned in Sound forums.

  9. Really dont risk it. Looks like the NE service this year is different as last year there was a changeover for National Express to the Airport Express at Bristol bus depot which could add a lot of time. This year the tickets claim its direct so if this is true it MAY be possible to do it but our National Express couch was about 20 minutes late last year. Considering the issues we had getting out in 2007 this didnt bother us at all but in your case this may make a big difference especially with the early morning traffic rush and you needing to be checked in on the plane. If the NE confirm there is a changeover at Bristol depot again then definetly don't risk anything more than a 7am departure but I'd say keep that in mind as your departure anyway to be sure.

  10. First bands are at 4pm except on the first day where its closer to 7pm. Bigger names don't start to show until around 10pm. Big names could as easily be playing at 11pm or at 3am as there isn't a defined headline slot. Djs are usually scheduled till 6am but I've heard rumour of it going on till 9am on occasion. I've always ditched around 5am though so cant say for sure.

I've never been to Benicassim but everything I've heard suggests they are totally different festivals. Primavera has no camping and takes place in a location designed for public events. The major stages all have an amphitheatre setup around them which allows you to sit with a perfect view if you want. Theres not too much in the way of natural surfaces except for some landscaped grass. The rest of it is a mixture of stone, concrete and tarmac (but all done so its not ugly.. just not the softest to sit on). Have a search for info on Parc del Fòrum which is the name of the venue.

  11. Wednesday is certainly the best but Thursday isnt the end of the world. Having arrived on different times on the Wednesday for 4 years I did a Thursday evening arrival last year and I didn't feel Id missed much. I suppose it depends on if you are meeting people who were there from the Wednesday and if it was your first time at Glastonbury.. both of which would probably make you feel worse about it.

  12. Guys your maths is off by a factor of a thousand. Calories that we talk about in food are actually kilocalories. Theres plenty enough energy to charge a phone from kinetic energy. Its not effecient (and a wind up system makes far more sense) but its perfectly possible.

  13. Depends how old you are and what you get up to in Glastonbury. If you only care about music and getting drunk then you might have a better time in T in the Park especially if all you do in Glastonbury is stage hop to catch the bands you want to see.

  14. This idea of rallying your cause to try and use public opinion to pressure the festival into reversing a decision theyve made doesnt sit well with me for some reason. Ultimately its a music festival which, regardless of what some people in here may say, is hardly a basic human neccesity. Its run by a company, sold as a service and has terms and conditions which are stated at the time. That you are unable to go due to personal injury is unfortunate but no different to someone who gets an incapacitating flu the day before or must attend a funeral or similar.

That the facilities to deal with an injury like yours exist in a limited form really doesnt change that as they are reserved for special cases which, Id say fortunately, you dont fall into. Their effectiveness needs to be mantained by a line being drawn and you fall outside it. Your circumstances are unfortunate but not unique and Im afraid you dont have any real convincing argument for an exception to be made other than you really like Glastonbury and youve asked a bunch of people on the internet to vouch for you.

Id advise you investigate alternatives to allow you experience some of the festival. Trying to get a loan of equipment to help would be a far better use of your time rather than trying to get a change made to the policies of the festival. This would only open the floodgates to people getting internet petitions together to change aspects to suit their personal situations... a path an organiser of any event would never take a step down.
