  1. These days seem to have been decided although I haven't seen a lot of these confirmed here or on the SSW website:

Friday: Erland and the Carnival, Fionn Regan, The Megaphonic Thrift, Rugosa Nevada, Sunshine Underground, Wave Pictures

Saturday: A Genuine Freakshow, Autohype, Goldheart Assembly, Go! Team, Laura Veirs, The Whip

Sunday: Errors, Frightened Rabbit, Futureheads, Los Campesinos!, The Low Anthem

  2. Not a big fan of theirs myself, and surely too expensive, but apparently Blur may be appearing at one or two festivals later this year. They go down well I'm sure at SSW but Glastonbury/Reading & Leeds seem more likely. Perhaps someone could twist their arm though. Their old Leicester labelmates seem a more likely bet for SSW.

I'd love to see the Nightingales on the bill myself. Still a great live band.

  3. ...or today.

Should start a new thread for this, but never mind.

"FIRRRRST CLUE. Do you remember Alison Moyet? This band sure do..."

"AND! Second clue: this band can be found in your mouuth in between your teetthh"

"AND, AND! Third clue: this lad is in like ________."

"ALRIGHT! Last one for the day - if you're going too fast, you've got to hit the _________. Now, go forth, my little Jessica Fletchers...."

  4. At the risk of breaking with the tradition of requesting wholly familiar old bands for the festival, two bands that would be great are Beach House, the US duo who will surely be huge once everyone realises how excellent their new album is, and Coventry's Don't Move!, who have an also excellent album out and could surely be persuaded to make the short trip up the motorway. If we're inviting more established turns back, then Luke Haines would get my vote.

  5. Anyone seen the Cornbury line up announcement?

This little known festival which i for one had never heard of today which also happens to be cheaper that SSW has had its first announcement and is making SSW look like a laughing stock!

David Gray, Newton Faulker, The Feeling, Blockheads, Squeeze, Noisettes...

hardely ground breaking but i knmo whish I'd prefer :P

    Tinchy my arse!

    :P

  6. I'd pretty much decided not to go this year, but the first acts announced are making me think again, apart from joke rapper Tinchy Stryder, obviously.*

Big thumbs up for The Fall and The Woodentops, both of whom I first saw in the mid 80s, and Go! team who should be excellent. A few others that I'd also like to see - Laura Veirs, M&S, Wave Pictures, Lou Rhodes. More promising than last year's first announcement.

*how about getting some rap/hip hop artists with some talent on the bill at some point?

  7. The Leicester Mercury's attack on DMH and Richard Haswell in particular has shown just how poor that paper is. It's part of the Daily Mail group, I believe, which gives a good idea of where it's coming from. Mistakes may well have been made at DMH but at the end of the day an arts venue is there to provide arts to the people of Leicester, and if money's tight tickets will be harder to sell. DMH isn't there to make a profit necessarily (or at least shouldn't be - the new 61 million pound theatre in Leicester will take decades to recoup what's been spent on it, if ever), though it would be nice if it broke even, and the same should be true of Summer Sundae - a festival like this is worth a bit of budget. How many millions has the city council spent on useless consultants in the past few years? Why aren't the Mercury 'journalists' (who include a few former Leicester musicians, or at least used to) asking questions like that rather than doing a hatchet job on someone who has spent the last few years trying to do something positive for Leicester, and at the time of writing has not been shown to have done anything wrong at all?

  8. Surely the nature of festivals mean that they a large bill where a percentage will always drop out, not much can be done to replace a band on the day. Anyone stupid enough or narrow-minded enough to go to a fest to see one band probably deserves to lose money!
  9. ***SOLD***

I have an adult weekend (all 3 days, no camping) ticket that I would like to sell. SSW website value is £102. Would like £80 cash o.n.o. Message me if you're interested. Buyer to collect from LE7 ideally as the festival's less than 4 days away.

Buyer will need to collect by Thursday evening at the latest.

    ***SOLD***

  10. It's too early to be listing bands just now, but some general suggestions - if a band played last year or this year and sucked or just weren't very good (I know it's very difficult for those involved in the organisation to admit it but there are quite a few bands that play each year that don't really cut it - anyone remember Morning Runner? Thought not), don't book them again for 2010, even if they're local (anyone remember...ok I won't mention them). If bands really went down well last year or this year, book them again, particularly if they've packed out one of the smaller stages. Get one or two of the classic Jamaican reggae stars that are still performing, one or two of the more intelligent US hip hop stars, and a few of the more interesting African artists on the bill - a 3-day festival can stand a little more variety. Don't let the line-up get formulaic - too many people seem to want a 'legends' slot here or a 'cheesy' slot there. And get the vegan takeaway stall back - I'm gonna be hungry this year.

  11. of course a suitable replacement will be found. im pretty sure ssw arent really in the habit of advertising bands, and then never playing them'.

i'm sure the powers that be already having something in hand, and are just waiting to hold it back for a suitable press release / next push for ticket sales.

which is more then can be said for monarchy!!!!

  12. and you say i've got an awful taste in music? at least its not scouting 'every song is the same, has three lines of lyrics, then repeat song title continuously' for girl i guess.

marina and the diamonds are fantastic. surely we cant stomach the magic numbers yet again?

  13. the noisettes have indeed pulled out this week, as Kate pointed out, the record company has pulled them to play US gigs instead (i guess they're trying to break the US).

i believe attempts are being made to find a suitable replacement

This may not be a bad thing, wasn't too fussed about them. They were meant to be on before Charlatans & St Ettienne. Maybe their replacement could fit in with the early 90's indie vibe
